Odd placement in their lineup though. The equivalent Skoda to those is the Fabia. Equivalent to Golf and Leon is the Octavia. It's sort of a bridge between with give and take either way.
Scala is based on Polo chassis, it is not Astra, Golf, Focus, Megane competitor. E.g. Megane is 9cm wider!! Emotions are fine but some frame of facts is needed :-)
Here's the truth: Golf 1790 mm Scala 1793 mm Astra 1809 mm Megane 1814 mm Focus 1844 mm I'm not able to find 9 cm difference between Scala and Megane. Scala is based on the same MQB A0 platform as Polo, Ibiza and Arona but at same time it's over 10 cm longer than VW Golf.
It's not as wide as the Golf sitting in the front because the Octavia is the Golf rival, same basic size, construction and engines, but with an extended boot.
In your opinion mate 😉 I have the Seat Leon FR 2017 , and it looks briliant ,better than any skoda,VW,,and it drives better than any Skoda ,even better than the Golf on which is based ,believe me,I work for British Car Auctions,I Inspect and drive 500+ cars every year since 2015,so imagine how many cars I drove over the past few years, 3 cars every day,I drive long distances 350+ miles every day,and last car of the day I take it home, and last car of Friday keep it over the weekend so a lot of time to inspect them properly and play with,so yeah ,I pretty much drive all tipes of vehicles, new models, everything ,from VW Golf to Bentley's..and from VAG group, the car that made me love it is the Seat Leon..why? Well because the way it drives and the way it looks,in my opinion it's just beautiful, sporty, aggressive, but at the same time very practical, and the steering, the brakes, the solidity of the chassis ,the stability on the road ,it's glued on the road, made me love this car and buy it ..and believe me,since I bought the car at 20.000 miles from and old man with disabilities that barely drove that car ,I had absolutely no problem with it,just service oil, filters, brake pads, that's it,no issues at all.. Anyway, at the end of the day, the looks of a car it's just a matter of taste ,everyone likes different designs, dont get me.wrong, I like Skoda aswell, very good solid cars ,and I like the Octavia and the Karoq, but in my opinion, Seat looks better than any skoda.. Cheers 👍
Skoda's design is sooooo boring. It was a shame they didn't keep the design closer to the skoda Vision RS in which is based, since it was beautiful. Hope the RS version gets a little bit closer.
Colin Renfrew Look at the price and you will reconsider. This is not a Ford Focus, Mazda 3 or Golf by any means (except for boot space) but its price is up there
Not really possible on launches sadly. Manufacturers will only take the ‘best example’ of the cars they have. See our Kia Sportage video, however, for a review on a low-spec car that’s on the manufacturer press fleet.
@@ParkersTV I know it isn't your fault when you do it on launch events but you could push manufacturers into doing it. I think I’d get a Mazda 3 or a Ford Focus: but I think the Scala is a step in the right direction. It looks like Skoda have actually made some effort in the styling department instead of the usual generic box.
@@bourka87 Not really. Thing with the Mazda 3 is if you would put all the options in other car brands/models which are standard in the Mazda, the 3 is actually cheap in comparison. Mazda 3 is a good option if you were planning to get more functions/luxury anyway just not if you want a stripped down entry level car.
;I'm impressed as this has many features we have come to expect as a product of today,s technology, but I still think many AI features such a lane assist and assistive parking, and some level of autonomous driving is missing from the car and none of these features are expensive to develop - in fact the AI is essentially the cheapest component in any car and you get 1000%+ returns in terms of cost. Can they start making clutch slave cylinders that last more than 30,000 miles and don't cost £700 to change when it showers the clutch with fluid, oh and wheel bearings that do more than 20,000 miles......ask me how I know...
Wow that boot is bigger than the Kamiq small suv. I’m impressed
There is only one true Scala - Zastava skala 101 :)
Original
Great review James. The Scala looks sharp, yet another car to tempt me away from the suv. If the pricing is right, why buy a Golf :-)
Its actually around 13k compared to 30k golf
Cheers Andrew!
Damjan Tasevski 30k? What world do you live in
I've driven the 1.5 petrol from work, fantastic car!
Another Great Video Review. I hope the New Scala Is a popular choice
Looks like a Volvo at the back.
Whilst it might not feel "fun to drive", it destroyed the golf in the moose test. The Scala did it at 79kph where as the golf did it at 69 or low 70s.
well it is based on MQB A0 which is the same as the ibiza and polo, so it technically won't be going up against the golf, or leon.
Odd placement in their lineup though. The equivalent Skoda to those is the Fabia. Equivalent to Golf and Leon is the Octavia. It's sort of a bridge between with give and take either way.

Beautiful Split, Croatia ❤️🇭🇷
This is actually shot in and around Baška Voda, look at 7:14 the port authority
Boris Stojnev its only 50 km away, dealership is porshe Split
What a beautiful place.
Does it have a high driving position? As I understand tge Kamiq has a very low driving position.
Excited for the scala vrs
E' un punto di riferimento per abitabilita', bagagliaio, il motore? Per me bastano e avanzano 90 hp e cosa che non guasta e' anche bella!
Let's hope for Scala Monte Carlo
Skoda are amazing cars I have kodiaq and I love it 😍
It's just Soda Rapid. FFS the dimensions haven't changed a bit. Scala got even smaller with some respects. I don't understand Soda's policy.
And it performs very well on the mosse test unlike the golf, those do a very bad job :)
Hey, great review! I'm interested to watch more of your videos :)
Glad you enjoyed it - don’t forget to subscribe!
Hello, was this filmed in Croatia? If I'm not wrong it is Zadar, road from Omiš to Split and some more roads?
You are 100% correct!
Low list price? 36k?

What's the difference between Scala & Kani?????
How can it be a true rival to the Golf? You're still giving your money to the VW group.
Admittedly, Skoda build some damn good cars but this one wouldn't be for me.
SKODA reliability?
This js the Skoda i would go for, excellent car.
Is that infotainment system available in a current golf or is it coming to the next one ?
as he said... it's a different system all together, even tough quite similar.
Sorry for the late reply, Mark! As the commenter says, it will be a different system on the new Golf.
Beautiful scenery too. :-)
Croatian coast - Split and southwardly, I suppose.
Love Škodas!
Now it looks 3 times better than golf 7.and ist better!
But i think Focus is winning now in this class till golf 8 doesnt arrive... Now focus is the best at all aspects
18000 euros for a new 150 hp se version. Makes complete sense to me.
Where is the place at 0:30 ?
Split, Croatia.
Low list price?? Are you kidding? Starts at 21k all the way to 40k!
This is like new Polo, but bigger boot.
what do you think about reliability??
Sandi Rusijan Skoda is a very reliable brand. My dad had a fabia for 6 years without any problems
It also has a Manual handbrake rather than these crappy electronic ones
Thanks for that. I have an electronic one in my Qashqai. It's a PITA as it holds for too long when I am trying to get away ....

Which place is this?
Split, Croatia.
Golf is golf man
Just fyi:
Golf = Octavia
Polo = Fabia
Scala something in between
Looks like a mini caravan. Kind of like audi a3 sportback.
No wonder it has more rear seat room and trunk space. :)
That looks more like an estate than a hatch.
Ok so it's not as good as the best car in its class the VW Golf. But if youve got a family it's more practical and better value for money.
Nice car for your grandfather.

The Scala is longer even.

this is actually on pourpose, as škoda is specificaly striving for a hatchback/estate hybrid in this case.

Only three cilinder engines are offered so a hard pass. These VW engines are unreliable and totaled around 80-100k km.
Daft comparison, this isn't in a league even close to the Golf.
