@@maloxi1472nowadays. This is old stuff. We must not forget the old stuff was good. Walt is turning in his grave so let’s not forget how good Disney was
I have not seen the movie, but when Voiceplay dropped this in Patreon, I was mesmerized. I watched it over and over. And then over and over again. Voiceplay owns Halloween and Disney. This cover proves that, I think.
Love seeing your mind getting blown, Tauri - Geoff's most recent for Halloween is 'Jack's Lament' from The Nightmare Before Christmas, his last was 'I See Fire' from the 2nd Hobbit film, both are stunning for different reasons! I See Fire will let you see more of his higher register, both he and VP just keep getting better and better!!
I have a soft spot for this kind of music, it started year ago with Pentatonix, and continued (somewhat) with Voces8 (minus the beatboxing! 😂). I really love how the reverb on the drums makes them sound like an electronic kit of sorts, the snare spreads everywhere haha. it just tickles my brain and makes me idiot grin lmfao!! 👌🏼 ✨
I think one of the things that make this such a good cover is you can hear the struggle Frolo is having within himself and feel him losing and giving in.
This song is one that Geoff resisted doing for a long time. I think he was reluctant to sing the part of such an evil man. The character of Frollo is certainly disturbing, especially as a Disney character. If you have read the book "Hunchback of Notre Dame" you know Disney toned down Frollo's character a lot, even so.
They did such a good job on this! Glad you got to experience it. If you haven't checked it out yet I recommend Geoff's cover of I See Fire from the Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. One of his best works yet. I know how much you love the Hobbit. :D
I had very mixed feelings when I heard they were doing this. I went to watch the movie after they featured Hellfire in their top 10 villains and really regretted it. Frollo was just so twisted and it was hard to take. But this song is so powerful. They did such a good job expressing the dichotomy that is Frollo. When Geoff starts singing he appears almost vulnerable. In the beginning where the more choral parts are, the background segues into sounding like the church bells are ringing which makes him (Frollo, not Geoff!) even more vile. Just after “burn it” Geoff looks at his hands as he’s singing “this fire in my skin” as if he is confused by his mania. There is a part of Layne’s insane percussion that sounded like sputtering. I think of it as an allusion to the fire that’s being stoked. It is hard not to be caught up with the lead vocals, but there is so much going on in the background. Geoff does these amazing little bubbling arpeggios when J is singing. When he is interrogating the guard you can hear in the BGV’s someone singing “gyp-sy es-caped”. (I’ve listened to the karaoke track a lot to catch just those little pieces!!)
It's hard to believe that Disney did this. It is mesmerizing, evil and unforgettable.
Now Disney produces stuff that is mostly boring, evil and forgettable

Unfortunately today's Disney is nothing but woke garbage

They certainly own any song they put their minds to!
Gotta love the geoffquakes 😂💜
GEOFFQUAKES!! I love that term!

I see Fire was not a Halloween song. His latest before jacks lament was Folsom Prison Blues
I've never seen that movie, but this is such a striking song. I love Geoff's high notes on 'burn' just before the end of the song.
Geoff Castellucci has a cover of "Jack's Lament" from nightmare before christmas out now. You should see it!

Never saw the movie, but you don't need to be familiar with the original to appreciate VoicePlay and Geoff's covers!
Agreed, you do not!
Loved your reaction. They just keep getting better.
Hi Tauri what really crisp vocals and all the separate voices have their places either separate or part of the harmonies. Great

That's fair, but I'm glad he did it.
Great reaction Tauri!!! Eli is pronounced like jelly without the j. 🤟🏻😊
Eli's first name is Eliezar, thus said "ell-ee" for short.
Oh, whoops! Thank you for the correction 😊

This is great (although I’ve never seen the film). Eli rhymes with jelly, by the way ;-)
Thank you for the correction!
