This song is from Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame. J None was 2nd to left. You have just met the theater kids of acapella and Geoff Castelucci, bass extraordinaire with a 5 octave range. VoicePlay is always so creative and entertaining!! Would love to see both of you at the same time. Would you consider making you guys the main screen and the content in the corner? I mean the fans (Voiceplayers) have already watched the videos 100 times so we would rather see your faces 😁
They are one full time member short right now, so they have been rotating guests to fill the fifth spot. Since you mentioned Lucifer, fun fact: Scott Porter (yes, the actor) was a founding member of VoicePlay with Geoff and Layne (and Earl, who left the group in 2020). Their cover of the Halo theme features Scott as the guest.
@@aMUSEingthoughts FYI - Scott Porter was their original Beatboxer. Layne took it up when Scott left to go into acting. This was before they changed their name to VoicePlay.
It appeared tat you were sharing an earbud. Voiceplay sometimes does panning (left to right or right to left( and definitely uses right and left channels. Sometimes one person is singing only in either the left or right channel only so you will miss things with only one earbud. They are extremely detail oriented.
This reaction was so fun guys!! If you think Geoff(the bass) moved through his range on this one, you should see his solo piece for Halloween this year. He did 'Jack's Lament' from the Nightmare Before Christmas and it is fantastic! This one was from the old Disney movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame and it was featuring J None. He was second on the left next to the beatboxer (Layne, who arranged this piece). J used to be a full member but he was offered a gig singing with the US Navy back in 2021 and he accepted. We're all hoping he comes back full time when he's done. If you wanna see one with more J None, check 'Valhalla Calling'. It's freaking epic! He also did 'Friends on the Other Side' for Halloween last year or the year before. ❤
Yes, this video they decided to really let Geoff play. I call that style Geoffs bombing run, where he climbs into the sun before dropping the bass all over us. Seeing as you did Hoist the Colors, a long while ago, would really REALLY suggest you listen to Valhalla Calling... J None has something special for you there. We will return, when you summon us again with another Voiceplay reaction...
Yes, many agree that Geoff sounds like a Disney villain (and sung a bunch of them) and looks like a Disney prince. Once or twice showed a princess as well while remaining a bass, lol.
Diving down the rabbit hole of the #TheatreKidsOfACapella. They never disappoint. Geoff Castellucci has his own channel where he does his own Low-bass covers. If you want to hear Geoff range check out his cover of JACKS LAMENT from The Nightmare Before Christmas. J. None was a member but joined the Navy in 2021. Still comes back on his leaves to make videos and minis with the guys. Cesar De La Rosa the young man to the far right joined the group after J. left. ►VoicePlay is Eli Jacobson | Tenor Cesar De La Rosa | Baritone Geoff Castellucci | Bass Layne Stein | Drums/ Baritone FEATURING - J.None Baritone
Yay! You found my favorite singing group. The guys have a large body of work to choose from but since it's Spooky Season you might want to react to their Halloween songs. They have four from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. They have one where there are no words. That one is called In The Hall Of The Mountain King and is pretty funny. It also features a female guest. 😊
Voiceplay owns Halloween. Try the one they did last year, Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) The bass, Geoff Castellucci, started doing solo work when Covid shut the world down and Voiceplay could no longer tour. He just dropped Jack's Lament from Nightmare Before Christmas. Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff!
I kind of wish you guys knew the story they're singing. It's a Church minister at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris who desires the gypsy Esmeralda. He prays to Mary (Maria) but falls into sin and evil, declares if the gypsy won't be his, he will burn her at the stake. It's from a Disney animated musical, based on a classic 1831 novel.
VoicePlay has only four permanent members currently and bring in guests to fill the harmomies and often this is a woman. They have a wide range of singers as friends to call on. J.None is the singer next to Layne, the beatboxer. the guard who appears with a message is ex-member Tony Wakim who works behind the camera now.I suggest you see Hoist The Colours, but also check out Geoff's low bass covers, on his own channe;. That's Geoff (Jeff) Catellucci.
Loved your reactions! Welcome back to the VoicePlay rabbit hole. Check out their version of Metallica Nothing Else Matters! Radiohead Creep. Hide and Seek since it is OCTOBER! Enjoy!
Just so you know who is who - from Left of screen: Layne Stein: Beatbox, Baritone, Arranger for this song; J None: previous member of VoicePlay, back on leave from the Navy for this song, Baritone; Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castellucci: Bass, but has a 5 octave range; Eli (rhymes with jelly) Jacobsen, Tenor but especially great at gritty rock songs and last on right; Cesar de la Rosa: Baritone, but sometimes pretty high tenor, too (he did the high note on their cover of Aerosmith's "Dream On"). Cesar was the one to sing that electric guitar part in this song. Should be mentioned that all of them have great range. I think Cesar is the only one we haven't heard cover a bass part yet but he had a really striking low part in this song!
Speaking of Lucifer and Netflix… Scott Porter, one of the actors in that show, is also a singer, has known Geoff (the bass) and Layne (the beatboxer) since they were all kids, and was a founding member of 4:2:Five (later renamed to VoicePlay) but left to pursue his acting career. You can see him perform with VoicePlay in their cover of the Halo Theme (yes, the video game… they’ve done a number of game songs, including Skyrim, Assassin’s Creed, and Portal)
I love there ACA Top 10 stuff. The had a few different members over the years if want a bit history who they worked with and friends with Just Sing a good one to look at it.
Check out their covers of Seven Nation Army, Dream On, In The Air Tonight, and Nothing Else Matters. And if you really want to see them looking DnD - Dragonborn. It’s a melody of two songs from the video game Skyrim. Also Valhalla Calling, which was inspired by Assassin’s Creed.
I just subscribed after watching this reaction. Voiceplay are awesome thank you for doing this reaction. I agree with the other commenters song suggestions I would add the Dragonborn comes from Skyrim and in my room by The Beach Boys ( the featured artist in this one in on this season of the voice) Valhalla calling is also incredible. You really can’t go wrong with any song you choice. Looking forward to seeing more of your reactions.
Welcome aboard the VoicePlay experience, please keep your arms and legs inside the reaction at all times XD Anything in these guys' catalog or in Geoff Castellucci (the bass singer's) solo channel is well worth checking out! Just for starters, try Oogie Boogie's Song, Nothing Else Matters, The Time Warp, This Is Halloween, Seven Nation Army, The Wellermen, Creep, In the Air Tonight, Drunken Sailor or the aforementioned Valhalla Calling. Geoff also just released an incredible cover of Jack's Lament, and he has several other great Halloween classics from prior years. Liked and subscribed, looking forward to more!
the song is from the hunchback of Notre Dame. also J.None was a member of voice play that left for the military but comes back to sing when he is on leave. Geoff is the bass of the group but his range is from high tennor to low bass so he can fill where ever he is needed in a peice. Layne is the groups beatboxer and will put his spin in whenever he can. Eli is the short bald one that hits the high notes you noticed.and Cesar is the newest member replacing J.None at the beginning of this year. In standing order it is Layne, J.None, Geoff, Eli, Cesar.
Yall should definitely check out voiceplay seven nation army, valhalla calling, and nothing else matters. Yo. You guys are not ready. That's all I can say. Exquisite harmonies, ear destroying base drops, and vocal percussion so intricately woven you will lose some brain cells trying to process it all. Enjoy. Oh and they've got sooo many Halloween songs. Lol at this point I think they covered all of the nightmare before Christmas soundtrack. Ding dong is really good. One of my favorites.
VoicePlay is currently down 1 permanent member, so they've been having featured artists for the last couple of years help them out with their videos. J. None, who is the featured artist in this video (2nd from left), is a former member of VoicePlay who was recruited by the US Navy for one of their singing groups in 2021, and has a 5 year enlistment to finish out, but travels to Orlando to help them out when he's on leave. VoicePlay has had a number of female singers featured, but not "Kristen" - that's actually "Kirstin", and she's one of the members of Pentatonix, another of the big a cappella groups.
Loved your reaction - so many incredible songs from them - after you get through the zillion Halloween songs, check out Creep, Dragonborn Comes, Dream On and Tennessee Whisky... the sheer power and range of the group will begin to show itself - and that doesn't even touch their comedy or their ballads.... so much good! Liked, subscribed and ready to listen!
I want to add to the list VP's version of the Michael Jackson song, "Man in the Mirror." It was J None's last video while still a full-time member. Also features Deejay Young, who fits in extremely well.
Valhalla Calling if you want your minds blown 🤯- although anything they do is amazing and they have a huge genre range - take your pic! Their rock stuff is my personal favourites.
Normally the "featured singer/vocalist" has a bigger/lead role in the video (like Geoff had in this song), but J.None is special. He has been a regular member of VP until he joined the Navy. Now he tries to be with them every time their schedules match and so "feat. J.None" is more a signal to the fans, that he'e back for a video. BTW.: Tony Wakim, the guard that comes in with the bad news for Minister Frollo, is a former band member, too. He was active at the time Voiceplay took part in the NBC show "The Sing-Off" (S04, Dec. 2013)
First time checking you guys out. A lot of fun watching you react. Look forward to seeing you react to future Voiceplay. Give Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim game by Voiceplay. It is sweet.
You guys looked a bit stunned and perplexed in the reaction. Sometimes people do. With VoicePlay you don't have to choose, because they can present any song you could ever imagine. What do you want to hear? They have done it. Classical, musical, game, movie, country, pop, rock, metal,.....you can find anything you like, new or old. Browse through their UT-page and you'll see. When you do, take a look at the SHORTS. they are done just for fun.
J.None was once a member of Voiceplay but left to sing for the army or marines (somewhere those catagories i cant remember) . now he occasionally makes a reappearance :)
People have already answered a bunch of questions already, so I'm going to drop some recommendations; most of their arrangements are done by either Layne (the beatboxer) or Geoff (the bass). This one was done by Layne. Other stellar Layne arrangements are: In the air tonight (Phil Collins) In my Room (Beach Boys) We don't talk about Bruno (Disney - Encanto) Geoff arrangements to check out: Nothing Else Matters (Metalica) Seven Nation Army (The White Stripes) Drunken Sailor (sea shanty - very different take)
You're totally right. VoicePlayas! This is the DARKEST Disney villain song ever created, and they made it even creepier with Geoff's deep voice. They have had a few females as featured guests in a lot of their covers so you will see a female from time to time. But Kirstin is in PTX 😁
They often do have female guest singers when a song calls for a female voice.
