What’s going on guys and welcome back to the channel! OH BOY do I have a history for you guys today! And more excitingly, a rather bizarre one at that with a mini absolute airtime machine that I’m sure many of you haven’t heard of. In fact, when I posted a picture of it online asking for video ideas, many of you were quick to jump in and ask what THAT coaster even was and if it was really real. Some of you didn’t even believe me. So of course I decided it was time to put the effort and energy into making a video for it, and I think the end result was pretty cool. I mean just look at this thing, it’s just so quirky and intense, plus bizarre, how could I not cover it? On top of that, according to subscriber k moyer, it even got the most experienced of coaster enthusiasts to howl and cheer at its ride experience and weird design, and it’s history is one that continues on today. So what is it, and where did it come from? This is the story, of Boblo Island’s, Sky Streak! ‼️🎢

I live in the suburbs of Detroit and my mom took my brother and I to Boblo every summer. My first roller coaster ever was Sky Streak. I was terrified and after we pulled into the station I asked my mom if we could ride it again. I was hooked. Thanks for bringing back wonderful childhood memories.

I rode this when I was 10 or 11. It was one of my first non-kiddie coasters. It did not have seat belts and the lap bar was inches from my actual lap. The ejector airtime was so intense that my mom had to hold on tight to me. I was tall enough to ride, but definitely not big enough. I swore off that rollercoaster that day. But, the Screamer and Nightmare were both great rides.

Great video, and some facts about Boblo I didn't know. The 'Sky Streak' held a simple design for steel coasters of 'the day'. Yet the 'air-time' was magnificent and similar to the original construction of the Mine Buster at CWL. The Sky Streak did not suffer from a 're-engineering' of the track layout in the early 00s which fell upon the Mine Buster to reduce its ergonomic air-time thrills. Please "National Coasters' do a full 20-30 minute video on the Boblo Amusement Park. Thank you.

The same manufacturer that built this coaster also built the Sky Tower at SeaWorld San Diego. I am one of the ride ops for it and recognized the name. Thanks for sharing this rare gem.

Ever heard of Vertigo at Walibi Belgium? It was a single-rail suspended coaster (yeah, no kidding) that only lasted about a year, and that was AFTER improvements were made during the off-season! It was the only coaster built by Doppelmayr. Seems interesting...

BOBLO was the Best park. The boat ride and rides and games were so much fun. The sky streak was the first roller coaster I had ever ridden. I was 10!years old and to me it was incredible. Love seeing the old videos of that park. Spent my whole childhood summers there.

I rode this coaster as a child in the early '80s and several times thereafter until Boblo Amusement Park closed. On one of my first rides on the Sky Streak, the locking mechanism on the lap bar malfunctioned. No attendant checked prior to releasing the coaster. That air time was no joke when you are a child with a lap bar that won't lock. I was literally being sucked out of my seat. Fortunately, I was freakishly strong for an 8/9 year old and I gripped that bar with such force that I felt as though my fingers would break. Definitely had a guardian angel by my side on that day. One of the most terrifying moment of my life!

woah!!!!!!! i rode it several times as a young kid too but fortunately never had this happen...though i remember hearing whispers about it happening from time to time while my family and i walked around the park. i think that chancy element added to the thrill factor. it was this coaster and the crazy 'Devils Pit' that were my favourites!

I think everyone in the country had a park, fair, or traveling circus that had a Gravitron. Still a great ride name. Name>Ride unfortunately. At 8yo I had a traveling fair come to Milford, Connecticut and they put me on the outside next to a larger person and as soon as the gravitron sent him towards me, my body slammed forward causing me to break my two front teeth off. Kinda impossible to forget that one. Haha.
Sorry, Gravitron just took me back...lol.

There actually is not a lot left from Boblo Island Amusement Park. The last remaining ride - the observation tower - was brought down this past December. While it is strange to not see it on the island when I drive by, it was in terrible shape and had become a safety issue. There are some buildings left, namely the old dance hall is still there (and apparently occasionally used by people who live on the island). The old bumper car building, the theatre, a bathroom, and a building that looks like an old church but in reality held a small power generation setup before power was brought over from the mainland. The old boat dock and some remains of the mini-golf can be found. You can see in some areas where the train used to go. That's pretty much about all that's left. Note that there is security on the island (it is now a community of private residences) and they don't much like people wandering around the areas of the former park.

I must have bragging rights...lol that was my very first coaster ever....hence im from the Detroit area....
But also as a mention that SCREAMER...A Vekoma corkscrew model that was in final destination was at this park as well and was my first inverting coaster as well....
That park was pretty cool....it dose have a lot of history and it was a great way to spend a summer day with the family ...
You could bring things to BBQ and everything and the boat rides to and from the park were cool either the long cruise or go across the bridge and and catch the ferry across the river....either way it's a park of fun that's truly missed....

Fun fact for the roller coaster though was: a nun, in full habit, was in the front seat on the very first run......I was there the opening day. The best part of Bob-Lo was the two hour ride by one of the two boats down the Detroit river from Detroit to the island.
