When you hold it in your hands you can tell that everything was very well thought out. The layout is one of the strongest aspects of the deck. Even the buttons which are not as big as xbox buttons, but still bigger than switch buttons and more rounded with just the right amount of travel. They need to put out a steam controller 2 for desktop use
thanks for the video. really interesting to see all the different prototypes and the iterations of each one. i printed the steamdeck mockup when the files became available, and it was definitely something that feels well thought out. also, i liked the part where they talk about balancing the components. it reminds everyone that you can't just make everything bigger and faster, since it will come with drawbacks.
That working prototype with the big screen and circular pads would go for thousands. I love this video so much. Also, I think the circular pads were better because they matched the circular movement of thumbs which should have been prioritized over matching a square to a rectangle and having corners.
I've got my steam deck yesterday and coming from xbox and PS controllers, the bumpers are barely usable (hard to press without lifting your finger), also my hands are not tilted relative to the buttons and the sticks and it is really hard to push buttons fast this way because of the muscle memory I have. Also when I am using the sticks I go diagonally instead of straight. The good news is that all the games run at 40 fps. Overall it is good for relaxing games where you don't need that fast button accuracy (I tried Cuphead and it was hard to play).
Testing all those controller designs made this guy's arms huge.
Really interesting to see all these prototypes and how much thought went into the development of the final product.

this was really interesting, thanks for sharing. loving the SD, all of the time they spent on design really shows!
오랜만의 업데이트네요. 이따가 좀 더 자세히 봐야겠습니다. 반가워서 댓글 먼저 달았습니다 ㅎㅎ
3:28 This one is an absolute beauty. I love the blue buttons and glass front.
Straight Sex Appeal. I knida wish I could get this one tbh.
이것이 최선이였군.

This has the same energy as when Nintendo made like 30 prototypes of the Wii wheel for Mario Kart Wii
