Amazing how helpful it is to have someone just constantly asking the same, simple questions! Great job! The end notes may have been better than Reed's, but don't tell him I said that! 🤣😂

Right after college and out on our own, I had several friends who would "just come over and talk" while I cleaned the kitchen, decluttered the closet, etc. etc. etc. (and I did the same for them). It's amazing how helpful that is. To have someone asking you Dana's five questions would just be icing on the cake.

I loved you asking where she would look for an empty container and thinking, "... yeah, I bet we haven't seen the last of that container."
And I loved her finding the CDs and hearing you say, "... what about that container?" and sending her to get it - just to check.
And I loved hearing her say multiple times, "I don't think the CDs will fit," and thinking, "Oh, they are SO going to fit," and giggling in delight as she Kept. Discovering. More. Empty. Ones.
And I LOVED seeing the finished CD container in all its glory, and how thrilled she was with her space.
This was such a good demonstration of the power of having a look (and WWILFTF, and TITN, the whole process.). Thank you!

I have zero decorative pillows in our house. They are just clutter to me. I don't even have one on our bed. Sleeping without a pillow really helped my back.

I'll be using this method with my parents when I visit them next month - their kitchen (not to mention most of the rest of the house) is an absolute disaster (my mom's a bee who thinks everything should be out, and she's the one who cooks, and my dad's a cricket who leaves almost everything until "later" which means he leaves piles and piles on the table, often to the point that only one side of the table can be used for anything, and the table already only seats 5, and my sister, who I think may also be a bee but I don't know for sure, uses space on the table for her stuff, so when my dad's piles get really bad, the table literally only seats 1), so starting small with them is key: the only way we ever get the kitchen table cleared off is when I go through this process with them, but I'm only there a few times a year, so it always goes back to how it was before (or worse than it was, depending on how long it is between my trips there). My mom loves having a cleared off table because she loves having the work space for cooking, but she also wants everything out, so something's going to have to give on her part, because you just can't have both (she's convinced that remodeling the kitchen will be the solution - house was built in '64 - and while it might help some, the reality is she just has _waaay_ too much stuff).

I have the area under our basement stairs full of stuff. It's been there for 20 years... I only know of one thing that's buried in there. It's a bin of children's wooden blocks from my husband's childhood. Our kids didn't play with them much, so my grandkids probably wouldn't play with them either. Hmmm?

Dana--loved, loved, loved your virtual declutter session. [Love your eye makeup, too!] Though I've watched possibly all of your 'take it there' videos, it just 'clicked' today that you are not asking her right out, "Do you ever use that?" Instead you go slowly and let her make the decision. Coming to conclusions that things can 'go' if they are not something we would necessarily 'look for' again is SO freeing and makes the declutter process so much easier going forward with other spaces. Kudos to you! I always chuckle at your 'disclaimers' at the end; today was no exception. LOL

Then my mother passed away a few weeks ago and I've had to clean out her place. If we hadn't of done all the decluttering, we'd of had to put the stuff in storage. But we had the space to put it, so now I'm going through it all, using your decluttering steps. I know I could not have done this without your methods. I had a plastic Disney 101 dalmations Pongo and Perde plate from when my childen were young. I couldn't let it go it lived in my kitchen cabinets with my plates. I threw it out when I cleaned out my cabinet. I wanted to take it back from recycling but I finally let it go. The struggle is real.

This was so helpful to hear what is going on in your clients mind while you keep pulling her mind back on track!

The plastic tub without the lid reminded me of what I do with DVDs. I have no idea where they go but sometimes we find DVD cases with no DVDs. When I do, I go ahead and put them away on the DVD shelf and when I find the DVD, we know where the case is. It works because that’s where I’d look for the case first.
