My Easter egger is my favorite sweetest bird and she lays light blue eggs. I love her. My Rhode Island Red is a dependable no nonsense layer but very loud and not too friendly.

Agreed with the Easter Eggers! All 4 of ours will snuggle into us for naps. It makes me feel like I must be doing something right! It's also fun to watch their feathers coming in.

@@gingerpeterson47 my EE will go through her first molt this year, and she’s already looking rather shabby but she is still so beautiful. I’m looking forward to seeing her feathers come in. She’s also very small but lays most days. Yes, we are definitely doing something right 💖👍🏼

Thank you for including the Dominique!!! Our chicks will be 3 wks old tomorrow and they are so sweet. We have 3 Buffs, 2 Black Australorps, 2 Dominiques, 4 Easter Eggers. I've been working with them since Day 2, and nine of them like/don't mind being or absolutely must be handled. Happy Mama Hen for sure!!! 🥰
The Dominiques are so often overlooked in lists, despite being a great all-around layer, and the oldest breed in the U.S. So thanks again!

I wanted chickens for fertilizer and have them consume a lot of bugs in my yard. Learned they also eat table scraps. They make fun pets too. Eggs are a bonus but not necessary. I have 1 Buff Orbington and 2 Easter eggers.

My Leghorns are very vocal and noisy...is this a common trait?? They're so noisy that I might as well have gotten roosters! 🤦‍♀️ But I do love them 💕

@Jana-wz2xb my leghorns are chatty and crazy noisy too but in all honesty I think it's because theyvare happy. My girls sound like dinosaurs sometimes.

Barred rock and my partridge Cochin are the nicest chickens I’ve met! Both sit in our arms and fall asleep.

The orpington and australorp are the greatest of all time. The easter egger is great too.

Pets and eggs… leghorn, austrolope , Andalusian, Ancona, Delaware, barred rock and Easter egger . One of each. All heritage for their hardiness. And each lays a different color kinda. They are mostly smart but I will say they aren’t quite the snuggly kind

We bought 6 1-year old ISA Browns from a local farmer about 4 months ago and we are loving the egg production. We decided to add 4 Barred Rocks to our flock. They were about 4 weeks old when we got them. Now they are just about 3 months old but we're having a difficult time integrating them with the ISA Browns. We have to keep them separated because the Browns are very aggressive toward them.
Any advice on how to get them integrated?

Wow!! Really? I have ISA and they are the most, sweetest, cuddliest hens ever. Now my rooster!!! That is a whole different topic! He's very aggressive and protective over everything in the entire yard, me included. That's interesting that they aren't getting along. Normally the browns are the ones being bullied/ at the bottom of the pecking order.

Yes! Based on everything that I've read, I expected it to be an easy addition. But for whatever reason my ISA's are not very accepting. There is plenty of coop and run space. And they all free range for most of the day. But when the Barred Rocks get close to the ISAs, they will chase them off and peck at them.

We got our first egg ever yesterday! Now I know my "Easter eggers" - they have no typical Easter egger traits like beard/muffs or green legs - are actually Olive eggers. They look exactly like my Welsummer aside from their ear lobes, so I was a tad worried I was given all Welsummer, but now we know!

I will never own another road island red as they are NOT friendly they are MEAN. And I won't own a golden comet either because they are a mix that has road island red in them. I love orpingtons of any color. My one barred rock is a scaredy cat and runs from me. I've never owned a leghorn cause I personally just don't want white eggs. I also love the coloring of Dominique's but won't own one because I thought they all had feathered legs I do not like feathered legs. I also will never own an Easter egger because they do not look like a regular chicken I do not like chickens with beards or a rose Combs I think they're ugly but that's just my personal opinion.

My Dominiques do not have feathered legs, so I hope you might reconsider them as a breed.
