I did that exact modification and lead me down a hellish path to get the bike running properly too much air, This mod doesn’t work without extensive work on the carbys the airbox and everything else, there is no power after this modification way too much here and way too little fuel
I bought a Used 05 Vmax with 63k Mi, paid about $2k No problems started up instantly, Note: this mod was done + an aftermarket Voodoo Exaust Kit & some "Sq 🔳 Cut-Cardbord" was placed over the Air-Filter "Restricting" it? Anyone know why? I'm guessing Bc the Carbs aren't Tuned for the extra air flow? I'm Curious 🤔 if it's causing My other issue, I need Full-Throttle between (65-72mph) or it gets Bogged down, Past that No problem, Fuel Air Mix Issues?
OmG Japanese engineers toes are curling in their shoes. You don't mess with a perfect engineered stock bike. Mine is perfect and perfectly maintained.....launches like a missile and if you know how to ride the V Max you don't need all that shit that doesn't make it faster.
Agreed. Some people will buy anything because its there. Both my 98 and 07 vmaxes are stock, and I plan on keeping them that way, because I trust the Yamaha engineers know what they are doing.
bikes fine the way it is from the factory, if your running it on a race track, different story, wasting time and money , for a bike that was built right the first time,
You will see very little difference,if any with this mod. Power output if any will be negligible, if and when you are able to use it. Keep the bike stock,it will be cheaper and less hassle to run. You will never ride a v max to its full potential unless you are a maniac.
Clueless you are my friend. This along with a full header will give a much more enjoyable riding experience that doesn't have to be run at redline to be enjoyed. If you aren't worried about power then why bother getting a Vmax at all. Stick with the Vespa's as they have enough to go every speed limit law in the land (except maybe Texas open roads lol).
Get a DynoJet stage 7 set up and re -jet. That set up looks a little shaky to me. I'd be worried about leaks.
Exactrep has a 40mm carb that is really good and a filter to replace the stock one ,or just get the jet upgrade with 4 filters.
What do you do with the 4 rubber hoses???
Did you install air correctors and rejet carbs?
This would 100% be required and a full header is needed to make use of the increased flow.

This mod will work best with a full header and Dynojet stage 7 carb kit.
Close gap on plugs a bit
First off,,,remove jets and get the carbs sonically cleaned at a dealer.

The air filter you recommended was not a very good fit
Hopefully you can still keep water out in a rain the way yamaha intended when they designed it lol.
Cop mod rejet sticky grips. You will need them
I disagree with your Harley Davidson opinion. Made all the difference on my 2001 Buell M2 Cyclone
I wouldn’t have used a hacksaw, better a dremel or cutting disc

I think that’s a good idea especially when a top fuel tank is fitted restricting more air flow. These filters work!
