  • In this film, join Jerry and me as I react to a balked landing in the Cessna 337 Skymaster. I will also discuss the difference between a balked landing and a go around as well as briefly discuss how you can find yourself in an elevator trim stall. #skymaster #landings #howtofly #goarounds #aviation #flying #eaa #cessna #landing #vintage #learntofly

    EXCELLENT! Great lesson on go arounds! 5 years flying GA, 20 years flying fighters, 20 years flying airlines, not once did I ever regret going around. No harm, no foul, and yes they were all FREE! The times I should have and did not, I regretted it. I fortunately never broke anything or hurt anyone. This video is great because it shows how suddenly even the best pilots can get in a bad situation...and how the best pilots handle it. No pride, no ego, just safe! Keep up these kind of great videos.

    great video, shows all new pilots that no matter how long you have been flying sometimes landings are not smooth.

    Thanks for the video. I just purchased a 337, my first aircraft (still does not feel real) and I am trying to learn all I can about it. I am still a student pilot and have only flown the 337 once. It was suggested by a close friend to finish my PPL in the Piper Warrior I currently fly. But while I am finishing that, I am learning all I can about my 337! Thanks for the videos!

    I am not yet a PP (passed the written but didn't pursue flight time), No money or time--anyway, I'm relegated to being a happy flight sim pilot using Microsoft Flight sim steam version. My point: I encountered the identical problem the other day on one of my landings but had no wind so it was all in my improper setup on short final (even though it is a sim, I take it for real as it can be--I don't use it as a 'game' at all). By watching your video here, I'm thrilled to learn that my reaction to my balked landing attempt was exactly like yours! I did the right thing!! I bounced once (hard) and went nose high. Applied full throttle and went around and nearly greased the second landing after correcting my mistakes on the first attempt. Thank you SO MUCH for this video. My brother IS a commercial pilot and whenever I can get with him to do some flying, my sim flying has helped a lot--Knowing, however, that sim flying is NOT the same as flying a real plane. Again, thanks for the video--looking forward to more.

    What an interesting landing! I fly a C172SP, and I would never consider coming in hotter than 75knts unless I had a raging headwind. I have had a few bounced landings like that before and and the last few, it was only one bounce and I arrested it, maintaining a nose up attitude with good elevator control to let the remaining energy bleed off so that the 2nd time the wheels came down, they would stick and I could dissipate the remaining energy by doing a wheelie for a short time. I like your channel! Count me as a new subscriber!

    Thanks for a cool video! First thing thing I noticed is: DAMN I WANT A SKYMASTER!! THAT PLANE IS SO COOL!!!! Second thing I noticed is what a great crew you 2 were together. Having fun, and being safe is what it's all about. Nice call and excecution on the balked landing. We have all been there. You were man enough to put everything forward and swallow your pride. Great call! Sometimes no matter how good we make the approach, a sudden gust of wind takes us up again after the tires touch.

    So Jeremy- I think the Skymaster is a unique enough aircraft that we’d all just like to see it fly rather than discover how many ways you can crash it😜

    Since the rear engine gets hot in summer, can it taxi with rear at idle and just use the front engine or does that make the rear hotter?

    • @AllAmericanAviation

    Stalled 3 feet above the runway is not a good place to be, nice work getting out of there!

  • @feetgoaroundfullflapsC
    @feetgoaroundfullflapsC 4 года назад +2

    That is the easiest piston airplane to do over runway go arounds. 2 engine power, and has no torque factor at all. Try my username turning right with a 10 knot crosswind from the right too. That is like simulating a right crosswind 5 feet go around after been misaligned. Use lots of right rudder or you will do a forward slip with 40 flaps with nose up and stall.
    That maneuver errors is what wrecked most C150's and the reason they cut the flaps to 30 and added 15% more Hp on the C152. Try it. It teaches all flight fundamentals at 5 feet over ground.

    Okay, just finished the video---love the pilot humor. Hmmm, so you pull the landing gear up after an aborted landing as you do a go around? Solid landing on the 2nd one. Great job!
