    Exploring Stabilization Methods
    1. Penetrating Epoxy Resin
One effective method to stabilize fragile woodcarvings is by using penetrating epoxy resin. This specialized epoxy has the ability to penetrate deep into the wood fibers, reinforcing them and providing additional strength. When applied correctly, the epoxy resin seeps into the microscopic gaps and strengthens the wood, reducing the risk of cracking or breaking.
    2. Shellac Application
Another technique to consider is the application of shellac. Diluting shellac with the appropriate spirits creates a solution that can be applied to the woodcarving. The shellac penetrates the wood, providing a protective layer and reinforcing its structure. This method can help prevent cracking and enhance the stability of the fragile carving.
    3. Reinforcing with Resin
If you have a specific area of the woodcarving that requires extra reinforcement, you can use resin to stabilize that particular section. By injecting or saturating the area with resin, you can strengthen the wood and minimize the risk of damage. This technique is particularly useful when dealing with intricate or vulnerable parts of the carving.
    4. Proper Brush Selection
When applying any stabilizing material, it is crucial to use the right brushes. Cheap brushes are recommended for this purpose, as they can be discarded after use. Stabilizing materials can be harsh on brushes, so using inexpensive ones ensures that you won't ruin your high-quality brushes in the process.
    Tips for Successful Stabilization
To achieve optimal results when stabilizing fragile woodcarvings, keep the following tips in mind:
Choose the Right Stabilizing Material: Select a suitable stabilizing material based on the specific needs of your woodcarving project. Consider factors such as the thickness of the wood, the level of fragility, and the desired outcome.
Apply Multiple Coats: When using penetrating epoxy resin or shellac, apply multiple coats to ensure proper penetration and reinforcement. Each coat builds on the previous one, enhancing the stability of the woodcarving.

I have used Minwax high performance wood hardener on my fragile carving. Soaks into the wood and strengthens it and gives a nice finish. Use a cheap brush to throw away. I love your online wood carving school. Thanks

Regarding the panel (@13:02, as well as earlier), it seems too dark to be basswood. What is that wood? Do you use other woods to carve?

Hello! I really wish you were here in Maryland 😂
Do you apply the penetrating epoxy after you’ve completed the carving?
I’m new to carving, seems I’m constantly chipping or breaking flower petals or leaves

I applied epoxy after all carving is done.
