This is what I liked most about the article & the video: “The suit doesn’t make the swimmer. The swimmer makes the suit,” Dressel said at the end of the attempts. I plan to share that will all the high schools that I coach.
I remember wearing my full bodysuit back in 2006-2007.. the buoyancy was top notch! And yes, it does have a learning curve on how to use it to its maximum potential. Regardless, Caeleb going a 20.41/20.42 without the roar of the crowd/teammates/hype of ISL champs on the line... this time is INCREDIBLY IMPRESSIVE. Keep it up, Caeleb! And thank you Speedo for bringing back great memories!
I still don't get why they banned it. Completely keeping the tech aspect out from swimming while in all the other sports tech always improves. See skiing for example, they are not skiing on wood anymore... it'd be super fun but whatever
I also think it might make a bigger difference in long course? More buoyancy isn’t necessarily going to help your underwaters, but it helps you when you are on top of the water, which you have to do more of in LCM than SCM.
@@Bert0ld0 Because its kinda ridiculous how much faster you are in a suit if you know how to use it properly. And sport should be about the Body not so much about tech I guess.
What a terrible atmosphere, you cant just throw a guy in a pool by himself, no spectators, no competition, no taper, and say "okay, now break a world record". That suit doesn't make that big of a difference in a 50. Great swims for caeleb, but pretty awful job of production on speedos part.
I think he went in there knowing he wouldn’t break the record, not because he maybe thought that he couldn’t but he thought it would’ve been pointless. If he did break it, it wouldn’t have counted because records are only actually logged and recorded in competitions like world championships or the olympics so it wouldn’t matter. Obviously he tried, no doubt about it, but he could’ve gone in there thinking he’ll try but if he didn’t break it, it’s not a big deal.
Tbh, in Dressel's ncaa prime, he definitely could have as well. But I think Jordan will keep getting faster. Rn Jordan is one year older than Dressel was his senior year.

“The suit doesn’t make the swimmer, the swimmer makes the suit.” Caeleb is 100% spot on. That suit looks amazing because of his freaking amazing body. If you put that suit on a fat person, together they would end up looking like a baby orca or seal. 🤷🏻♂️
If your glide speed is as fast as your swim speed due to the suit technology, Caleb should take less strokes than usual. His second attempt he took more strokes and looked like he was putting on the brakes for his forward momentum. Plus he has many more bubbles around his hands on the second attempt and this indicates he is ripping the water and energy is escaping and not helping him go forward. I would like to see him try to reduce his stroke count by one stroke on each 25 from his first attempt and with the increase distance per stroke. He should get more benefit from the suit and I suspect he would be faster.
