    Insane that they were swimming 21 in 50 free with no revolutionized start and no tech suits in just basic briefs.

      Actually, from 21secs to under 21, it will take forever (figuratively), timings tends to get low exponentially, so it won't be a big difference like from 21 secs they will go to 19 or something, in 50m they can lower 21.9 to 21.5 or 21.45 types which in itself is a big big improvement, so timing in 50m from 1980s would have been in 21s only.

      @@emr392 basically go faster, to reduce drag, it seems he already knew he was going to be slower, he tried to at least win a medal

    Anthony Ervin: Wins gold in 2000 at age 19. Retires in 2003 at age 22. Sells gold medal on eBay and joins a band. Starts training again in 2011. Wins gold AGAIN in 2016 at age 35. The oldest individual gold medallist in Olympic swimming history. What a story... GOAT?

      One of the GOAT for sure, too hard to argue who's the best across generations with no proper variables to compare and why to compare in the first place, but no one will argue that he is one of the GOATs (I know sounds stupid to say one of the GOAT), I guess you get me.

      @@sarthakbhalerao1045 Totally agree. You can only really say who was the best at that given time. But to win it twice 16 years apart is unbelievable, irrespective of times. PS. He was also the first US citizen of African descent to win an individual gold in the pool.

      inspirational, a real story that guy lived. mike bottom said he’d never seen anyone with a feel of the water like tony makes you think if there was more to be untapped but a specimen like caeleb will just tell him to hold his beer i was screaming in my tv in 2016 when he did this incredible

      The platform where they dive in from is changed too, allowing for one foot in front of another type of start.

    The fact that Anthony Ervin won the game 2 times after 16 years is just crazy! Remember that it is a super sprint distance, not an endurance game that might grow up when you're aging.

    Popov is probably the GOAT sprinter. Only guy to defend both the 50 and 100 free back to back games

      popov is a odd one, he was swimming the popov freestyle, that is very hard to learn.

      Just going back to back on the 100 free already puts you in a legendary category. Doing it on boths 50 and 100 is insane. I think he is probably the GOAT sprinter.

    Caeleb dressel really has revolutionized the start. Wouldn’t be surprised if nearly all the competitors next year are trying to mimic it.

    Alexander Popov, technically one of the best i have ever seen... Greetings from Germany, But there were so many great swimmers out there. It motivates me every time to swim, to see all these champions!

    Jagr and Popov are still the fastest pure sprint swimmers of all time, IMHO. Put a tech suit on them, give them hydro caps and goggles, give them the backstop on the block, teach them to dolphin kick to the surface on the start and their speed would have been insane.

    Biondi contro di me non avrebbe avuto speranze visto che senza allenamento specifico facevo una vasca in meno di 20"... L'unico problema poteva essere il tuffo per l'ingresso in acqua visto che sono stato sempre negato a tuffarmi
