The oboist in this performance sounds distinctly American...is this really the London Symphony?

@ThaSchwab -- Probably Olivier Stankiewicz....but could also be Juliana Koch.....Both British subjects.....and not at all as American as Apple Pie.....Cheers from Acapulco!

@@steveegallo3384 No, this recording is from before either of them were in the orchestra. Also the oboist sounds nothing like them.

@@whatadamnusername I know it's common for musicians, but I am always impressed by the fact that you can tell different people by just the way they play an instrument

@@JWentu American oboists sound very different from European oboists (and non-Europeans who play in that style). They generally have a light, bright sound, which I could even call flexible. Europeans, however, are powerful, use lots of vibrato, and have fuller tones in the very high and very low registers. It’s all a matter of taste, and I personally prefer American oboists. The commenter above mentioned those specific names because they play in the London Symphony.

    A Serenade without violins?

A refreshing violence free Serenade. Brahms knew orchestral sound is more, than just violins.

Poor violas have too take the place of the first violins 🤣
