This has hands down been my favorite trail shoe of the last two years! I have about 120 miles in mine and they still feel great and have been extremely durable. They fit and hold my feet perfectly. Extremely stable on downhill and crazy terrain. I have full confidence when I'm on the trail in these. Hopefully another colorway comes out soon.
That's great to hear, the GENESIS is getting lots of love in the comments! Unfortunately, I'm not sure Salomon will bring out another colourway? They tend to stick with just one colour on their S/Lab shoes but you never know 🤔 I think it could look better, not the most exciting looking trail shoe in the world! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Great video. I have 750km on my first pair and I have to say this is the best Salomon Trail shoe I have ever used and right up there as best trail shoe ever. At 750km, the outsole still has a good 200km in it before I resole it with a Litebase outsole to have it as my wet weather shoe option. I do agree it lacks a bit of grip on the greasy or smooth wet rocks, but I have found that the longer you wear them, the grippier the outsole feels. 750km, the midsole is not as poppy as my second pair I just started to break in, but it still has plenty of cushioning and especially dampening to make for a comfortable ride. Definitely a 1000km+ midsole. Super precise fit thanks to that upper which shows no sign of wear!! And just the right amount of room across the midfoot/toebox. I agree with you, the gaiter works really well to avoid any debris coming in, and keeps the ankle snug with absolutely no heel slip whatsoever! Honestly, you forget about the shoe it's so dialed in...Yeah! Cracking shoe. It has been my training shoe and it will be my race shoe for my 298km race this January. That's what I also love about this shoe! Simplicity! You don't need to think which shoe to grab depending on your run. It can do it (almost) all.❤
That's great to hear Elliot, I'm glad you're enjoying your GENESIS. You're right about the outsole, sometimes they do need a bit of roughing up before you get a bit more grip. It's also great the shoes are looking durable, especially being an S/Lab product. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Loyd - this is the real deal, the long-haul Pulsar we’ve been waiting for. Best S/Lab of the year and maybe the last 3 or 4 years. Hard to get in the USA so mine are courtesy of Running Fanatic in Latvia via EBay. Glad I went up half a size. Grips well in the Colorado snow.
It feels like a good shoe Troy 👍 Obviously I've only done one run in them so I'll reserve judgement untill I've got some more miles in but first impressions are pretty good 👌 I'm actually finding them true to size and the uk9.5 fits really well on lenght. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, it's appreciated 🙏
Thanks Naim, glad you enjoyed the video. The upper looks super durable, I've always found Matryx to be really hard wearing so it should hold up well! Hope you are fit and well mate and thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙏😊
The Fellraiser was a bomb proof Salomon shoe Tony. I had about 4 pairs of them and I've still got a couple of old pairs now! 👌 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Just started watching your videos, as I can't decide whether to get a speedcross 6 or these for marathon distance obstacle course. Really like the content in your videos, the review and then how it feels to run with.
Great viewing and review Loyd. I think the colourway makes sense. I Iove this shoe. I think the ride and grip are a little nicer than the slightly heavier Saucony Endorphin Trail. The all round comfort is way nicer than the Salomon Pulsar which doesn't seem to work well with my foot shape (though I'd still use it for short races). Interestingly, I was able to score a deal on a new pair of these and will likely train in the Catamount and luscious Ultra Glides. What should I do with my Perrigrine 11's...
I can just comment on the overall feel as I had to send the shoes back, I'm somehow between sizes in Salomon and size EU44 was too big. But you're spot on, the Quick Laces are perfect with the pocket, shoe is precise fitting and still cushioned, feels very premium and light, therefore I tend to agree on the price, even if it's still expensive. But as you said, todays standards...
Thanks Loyd for this new review, and great job once again ! I was looking forward to see what you would think about these genesis that doesnt really look like salomon shoes ^^ i already heard the pair was performing really well on long tough trails such as the TDS, but i was hoping the shoe wouldnt be that narrow. Sounds like i will still have to keep an eye on the xodus for the next buy ... Thanks again for your work, i will watch the full review anyway!
No problem 👍 The Ultra Glide is a great trail shoe but if you do have a bit of width to your foot shape I'd definitely go for the wide option. I'm gkad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching 🙏😊
I have the Pulsar and Pulsar SG and love them, but beyond 1/2 marathon my feet hurt in them. Just checked and Salomon have no online stock of the Genesis. Really want to give them a go and hope they will be good for the longer runs.
Fantastic review. I agree with what you said about the conta grip not being as good as the vibram grip on the wet greasy rocks, that vibram grip is impressive in the wet. Assuming the conta grip is all the same on the Salomon shoes I would be interested to see how it wares. I found the ware on the Ultra Glide to be the only let down on that shoe as I run a lot of rocky terrain and after 300 km the outsole grip was almost dangerous as it was worn so much. Thanks mate! keep up the good work.
Thanks Jesse, glad you enjoyed the video. There are definitely types of Contagrip that Salomon use on different shoes within their range. I think the rubber on the Ultra Glides was a bit softer, giving the shoe a bit more grip but not as durable? It will be interesting to see how the lugs hold up on the GENESIS 🤔 Thanks for watching 🙏
Great review, I`ve been reluctant to try anymore Salomon after finding the SLab Ultra midsole flatten out after just 200 miles....pretty expensive for a shoe that cost £175 (almost £1 per mile). Be interested to hear how the midsole performs after more miles, how did you find the Ultraglide for flattening out?
The flat midsole is not just the UG thing. I like Speedcross line, low to the ground but with big lugs they feel right even on dry trails. Yet, I was shocked how flat was SC⁴ when compared with newly purchased SC⁵! And it was well within 300km. So, I like the snug fit and durability of Salomon shoes. The foam though... well, I'm just aware it does enjoy a long life 😎 (hoping that I will still enjoy the shoes after the foam dies)
Raced a 200-miler last month with the first 125 Miles in the Tecton X. Only swapped those shoes for the NNormal Tomir after my feet swelled a full size. Didn’t have the Genesis (sold out in the USA so purchased from Running Fanatic in Latvia). So no direct comparison. Yet the Salomon is even more comfortable than the Tecton. My suggestion to you: Tecton is a better racer for tarmac (due to the plate), otherwise the Genesis wins hands down. Troy from Colorado.
Unfortunately I haven't run in the Tecton X but I'd say they are very different rmtrail shoes Kris 🤔 The Tecton X is obviously a Carbon plated shoe so I'm sure the midsole would run a lot stiffer than the GENESIS. Also being a Hoka shoe, the midsole cushioning is probably softer underfoot. Thanks for watching and I hope this helps 🙏😊
No problem Ty, thanks for watching! If you fit in the Ultra Glide, you'd probably fit in the GENESIS as well? I wouldn't say the Ultra Glide is a wide fitting shoe Ty. Hope you are fit and well mate 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure hmm def worth checking them out then loyd. Are you wearing then for Hurtwoods on Sunday. I'll be down there so be nice to have a look at them. 👍
@@tymckeown6014 I'm not sure I'll wear them for Hurtwood as I've only done one run in them. I'll probably stick with my trusted Xodus Ultra 👍 It'll be good to catch up at the race 😊
Shame it's so narrow. The S/LAB Ultra 3 is a great shoe with a decent amount of width in the toe box. The only shoe from Salomon that has ever fit me, I was hoping they would continue that way. Oh well.
Thanks for the detailed review. I think these shoes are really good shoes. However, I think the price is a little too high. The price is the same as climbing shoes. But they wear out fast. Hm.
No worries, glad you enjoyed the video. All the S/Lab products from Salomon are pretty expensive. However there is a lot of testing and development that goes into them. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
I use the S lab ultra 3s when I'm not injured, admittedly I'm not a fan of that lace pocket thing, it seems to dig into my foot, I just stick the excess behind the other laces and jobs a gooden. this pocket looks like it might have more room and be less tight on the top of the foot.
Salomon have definitely got the lace pocket just right in the GENESIS. Hopefully they'll cross this design over to all their trail shoes 🤔 Sorry to hear that you're injured, hope you get back running soon. Thanks for watching 🙏😊
Interesting shoe. Looks like they're going back to the designs of their old S-Lab wings models from 8-10 years ago, with more midsole cushioning (and even posting!). I'm assuming the Sense line is totally dead now?
great review Loyd! i fancy another salomon for the more technical stuff i plan to do next spring, this one might be a bit too narrow for me tho. btw will you do the new hoka challenger 7? should be out soonish...
The first run went well Ozenfant! I've never been that impressed with the Challenger ATR. I've alway found the grip to be very dissapointing and I think it would really struggle on the trails I run, especially right now 😲 I'll see what I can do though and thanks for watching and supporting the channel mate 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure well it's never been a real trail shoe for me either, but great for longer runs on gravel and the occasional mile offroad. it's nothing but a clifton with better hold and grip, but that's not a bad thing in my book. great winter shoe for me. thx for responding Loyd and greetings from Vienna!
Thank you for these first impressions. Very difficult to find them here in Switzerland. My all-time trail running favorites are the Sense 4 Pro. They sadly were withdrawn from the catalogue. These Genesis could be a good option from longer runs in the mountains. How would you compare the fit with the Sense Pro? Greetings!
I'd say the GENESIS give you a bit more of a precise fit compared to the Sense Pro 4. I'm sure if you really liked the feel of the Sense Pro, you'll enjoy the GENESIS Antoine. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
I can happily report - the lace pocket in Ultra Glide² has been repaired 👍 Just tried a demo, awaiting the release. And... I will stay away from this shoe or the Pulsars Trail, they are nowhere near as soft as UG! Not sure why, same foam but very much dead!
That's good to hear about the updated pocket on the UG2 👍 There's lots of different types of energy surge compound Yal and it depends on the shoe model. Obviously the S/Lab Genesis is a performance raceday shoe so I'm sure Salomon wanted it to feel a bit more connected and responsive and that's why the midsole is slightly firmer than the UG 😊 I'm not sure I'd call it dead but the UG is definitely softer, thanks for watching 🙏
All slab salomon shoes is not grip enough for steep downhill , i think they need to think about it. You need to use more power and skill to handle it .

I agree, It does look like a bit of an after thought. I have actually caught a shape rock on my instep quite a few times when running quickly in rocky areas and it can be very painful!
