If it happens while your in windows, try Win+Ctrl+Shift+B - it resets the display/graphics driver and will often bring it back. Also if you have remote desktop enabled its a easy way to know if your computer is froze or if its just the display. For the system testing, I'm not sure why you would even put in testing another CPU before assuming its the motherboard, CPUs are by far the most unlikely thing to fail. I think in my experience diagnosing hundreds of computers I only ever remember one processor being the problem.
I think you didn't connected the display connection to the gpu. You have to connect whatever monitor to pc connection you're using like hdmi or display port you have to connect that wire directly in the gpu. But if you don't have gpu you're using the igpu of the cpu by connecting the display connection to motherboard I guess thats why you're getting display after removing graphics card. Hope this helps

A graphics card is not expensive you said the CPU and motherboard that’s incorrect in my opinion the graphics cards is the most expensive pate in a computer
