Married to a Serbian lady for more than 12 years…really made me laugh. The Serbian father-in-law scene is totally legit
Why?
@@m1lst3r89
Let me explain well.
Rakija
(which is often made from plums.)
Although there are also other variants.
Which is drunk on several occasions.
Especially in connection with holy days.
Has to do with how many saints we have in our faith.
Which saint is honored can vary considerably per family
And holy holidays.
Like our
Serbian Orthodox Easter.
Serbian Orthodox Christmas.
And our Serbian Orthodox New Year.
Real traditions
Real norms and values..
Often it is only when your father-in-law wants to drink rakija. With you.
you get his approval to marry his daughter.
A real man should be able to handle a little alcohol..
At least according to the real traditional Serbian reasoning.
The only reasons why I'm not as traditional as I'd like to be.
Is due to the fact that my father was not that traditional based on what he experienced as a child.
He often joined me and my sister with my mother in keeping traditions alive.
My mother was and is traditional in that respect.
I am happy and proud to be of Serbian descent and I wouldn't have it any other way.
@@zokilauda I know all about rakija and what is, I was confused by the statement of the OP. Not every father drinks rakija or offers rakija.
@@m1lst3r89
Although that rarely occurs in Serbia,
you do have a point.
You must be very tall.
LMFAO as a Serbian man I couldn't stop laughing, the rakija in a coke bottle (or any random bottle) is so fucking accurate especially
Should one drink it in one go or not?
Rakija is pretty rough. So if u ain't used to it go slow. Traditionally we shot it
Not just Serbs but whole east Europe. Nobody is Serb you are not people from skies.
@@completelymindfuckeddepends, if ur are offered as only drink , and u gonna drink only that, u drink it slowly, if its like a toast then u go for a full. But also depends on a region, it could be eve town to town. But generile advice would be either drink like everyone else is in the room or dont.

I really don't know what to say, I am dating my dream girl now, I'm so lucky to have her in my life and her family around me.
Her father immediately started calling me '' zete'' and invited me to drink Rakija with him 😂 and her mother treats me like her own son.

Ćao zete, budi dobar i živ bio!
You’re lucky because most Serbian women will not date a non Serbian man
My grandma happens to have a lot of Serbian neighbors, and I remember them always being super sarcastic with a completely straight face.
Her father's like a hybrid of Čola and Bregović. I love it! And about the serbian music I can confirm it gets stuck in your mind very easily 😅. Love from Greece! ❤️
Love for our Greek brothers!🙏♥️ We love here Greek music too!

That's so true, been to Belgrade several times and got into a lot of Serbian music, it's unavoidable :P

As a Bulgarian I'd like to share that we also use vegeta a lot! And, of course, drink loads of rakia. For the holidays we don't do chores only on certain ones and this was done mostly in the past when people had to wash clothes with their hands (not washing machines). But I still think it's so cute we have these cultural similarities 😊. Much love from your neighbours! 🇧🇬❤🇷🇸
Pozdrav komso el ima nesto da valjamo na crno zuto ❤
Haha! This was recommended to me and so had to watch. The dad and the rakija bit is so true. Can’t tell you how many times I was wasted by 8am because my father-in-law would give me shots to start the day. The greatest moment was when my wife told me, “you know, you can just say no? He won’t mind. He just thinks you actually want it.” “Ne hvala (No thank you.)” is your friend in these situations. 😉
from where exactly is your father-in-law?
have you been to Serbia and talked with current serbian politicians, if not do you plan to come here.
i find your views as balanced and reasonable but we all know that countries are not built on it, they are built on interest,
as serbian president said "international law died in 1999..." did it ever existed in the first place is my question, if it can be applied only to those who can be forced to respect it, but rest are not obligated like USA or Russia, do we need to reform international laws and how are they going to be executed ?
Look at this guy😂all the time i thought u were against us but u are actually one of us!😂
I’ve been married to my wife whose also Serbian for 7years. I’ve never seen a video that is so spot on. She watched it with me and all I could do is just stare at her as if it was her in this video.😂😂
Four years ago I went to Belgrade to watch football game (yes, Partizan vs Crvena Zvezda) and after the match we still had some time to go out and partying a little. I don't exactly know the name of that part of Belgrade, I just know it was along the river with lots of clubs there. We went to a bar and a lost my voice. All women there were drop dead gorgeous , even the waitresses. I had a neck ache from turning my head, it was like unexpected beauty contest. I am a Slovak guy, there a lot of beautiful women here, but in Belgrade it was incredible.
This reminded me so much of my Serbian ex-girlfriend😂 I love how traditional they are especially because it pushes me to become not only a better person but also as a man I really wanted to do right by her. Especially me being Hispanic my family is traditional as well.
Yeah Hispanic and Serbian match great have same temper hot blood

"its always praznik, it was praznik last week"😂😂 I'm dead 💀
That made me laugh so much. Every Sunday is a praznik and can't do laundry on that day. :)
I’ve been married to a Serbian woman the last 16 years and this most definitely rings mostly true. Mine would have been more bothered about me doing the laundry than it being a holiday. Roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and she’d be horrified if I were doing something she considers her responsibility.

I could have dated a Serbian girl in Toronto 20 years ago. Only problem was that she was a chain smoker and I'm allergic. Otherwise, we got along just great! She was very STUBBORN in an adorable way!
Related to my experience the father scene is 100% accurate, also for the wrong pronunciation of my name, after 6 years of relationship with her he still continue to call me "Matija" instead of "Matteo" ahah
that is your Serbian name. You are literally never going to escape that. Maybe the younger generations in the family will be more considerate, but still... it's either way
OMG i've been wanting a Serbian woman video for such a long time and there finally is one!
It's not a dating story, but I started laughing when I saw the rakija on a Coca Cola bottle. I was in Vienna a few years ago on a holiday, and there wasn't many places available for dinner. So I found out there was a serbian restaurant in the backstreet of the hotel and I went there. I'm brazilian, so I don't read cyrillic, and as the waiter explained the menu to me I asked for what I wanted and spent some time waiting.
No one else in the restaurant, he turns to me with a bottle without any label on it and says "fancy a drink? maybe a little taste of Serbia?". I don't drink alcohol but he was so persuasive I could not say no. I can totally relate to the video reaction: "wow, it burns". lol!
Hahaha yep that’s typical for a lot of people in ex-Yugoslavian countries 😂 Rakija is also a medicine for us here :)

I waited for this video for a long time ever since I watched the "dating a Serbian guy" video. That video was hilarious. Unfortunately, I didn't recognize myself in this video. Sadly, I was never one of these girls. I never had a "girl tribe".
My Serb roots come from Hercegovina, south-west Serbia (Zlatibor region), and Montenegro. I was raised in a strict Montenegrin tradition. I mostly hung out with my cousins! And if the guy ever approached me, he better knew my cousins. I wouldn't acknowledge him unless he came with "recommendations". 😄 Gosh, I feel old. 😄
I did enjoy the part about meeting the dad, though! 😄 I recognized all the males in my family and the pressure on my husband to drink with them!
Hehe.. As an Indian I really finding it cultural shock..

I love this channel and as a serbian woman I'm glad you finally featured us :) The video was so funny and I'm amazed at how accurate it is! My house was a train station growing up, relatives and friends just come and go without invites and praznik is the reason why I don't wash clothes so often 🙆🏻♀️ Everything else is also true but serbs kiss 3 times that was missing in the slava scene but other than that great video 🥰
Ohh that's good to know..
Yeah, it was the same when I was growing up in Serbia as a kid. One morning, I woke up, and my sister wasn't even in the house. I went into my sister's room, and there was her best friend putting on makeup. I asked, 'What are you doing here?' She replied, 'Oh, just running to school, I came to put on some makeup.' I said, 'Okay, see you later.'
I went downstairs to the kitchen, and my sister's another friend was opening the kitchen cabinets. She said, 'Hey, where is Plazma? I'm rushing to school, I just need to eat something quickly.'
I'm not joking, it was so normal back in Serbia. Now, I've been living in Canada for 20 years since my parents moved here when I was 15. It feels unreal that this was part of my normal life when I was in Serbia.

Nice video...Well done you Serbs, you preserve your traditional values....in addition I like when Marina also appears in videos 😊
Well...preserving tradition should mean dating inside your own nationality.
Tradition is fiction in Serbia. The gangster culture rules here, criminals are worshiped - right after you go back from the Church.
@@m1lst3r89, we're more flexible about that. It's more about preservation of culture (which anyone can participate in) and traditional in the sense we want a family life and traditional gender roles.
Mixed marriages are very common (and healthy).
@@HelerifiKtion i don't see how mixed marriages can be healthy and traditional. Also, mixed marriages are not really common. It's not like that majority of Serbian popularion picks non Serbian people. Plus, if you are not Serb, you should not be allowed to dance kolo.
@@m1lst3r89, of course you don't. Do you know what inbreeding does to absolutely every people ever? Take a look at the Habsburgs. You have to mix genes if you want a healthy population. Mixing cultures also leads to spreading tolerance between cultures, it's a type of diplomacy.
What's "Serbian" nowadays is actually a genetic soup that allows for people to be healthy and continue existing. There isn't a single Serbian family that doesn't have mixed genes. Whenever someone historically tried that genetic purity, they ruined their own population and had to forcefully fix it via mass migrations, raping of women, and/or some type of devshirme. It's much better to create fraternisation of different populations.

This 16 year girl who I met on Discord who is Serbian pretty much talked to me that way especially about clothes 😭
How funny this video is , I went to Serbia several years ago in Zitiste for a friend's bother's wedding. During the wedding ceremony, one of the hosts told me that they are going to make a Serbian out of me by dinking rakija. I was drinking Jelen beer, after my second shot of rakija, I realized that he was not kidding and kept on bringing shots of rakija. What I observed is that Serbian women are very traditional and know that they want. From what I learned is that they want relationships not casual dating . Overall Serbians are very hospitable and want to know you. During the wedding tradition, my friends brother went to his future bride's house and presented himself to his future mother in-law. An entourage with an accordion player was playing traditional Serbian songs and passed around a wooden cask full of rakya, at the mother in-law's house. Later on, we went to the wedding hall with about 200 people. The 2nd day another celebration, this time with a regular band that also played traditional Serbia music, another day of rakiya and Jelen but only family and close friends and us from the U.S. What a fun vacation.

I'm 28 but I'm kinda old-fashioned. I don't use Tinder because I prefer meeting someone authentically and naturally. Is Tinder popular in Serbia just like the West?
if u wanna find a serbian girl ur best bet would probably be a club or cafe (in belgrade because thats where most non serbs go) and yes maybe a dating site but idk if tinder is what they use
In the big city.
Not at all. It's mostly foreigners who are on Tinder and other dating apps.
Word of advice: if a Serbian offers you Rakija, drink it. You‘ll earn his respect.
That's what Rakija was designed for. To test the size of your balls and how much pain you can tolerate.
"traditional values are still strong" aka not paying for one's own drink? is she a child???
Traditionally , man is a provider ; if a man can't handle bar/club tab(bill , check) , how can he be expected to provide for her (and family) ? That doesn't mean that she has no job , or career (+ home chores and cooking ) and that she wouldn't participate in overall living costs. Also , in a proper relationship , if man doesn't have enough money , she will give him some under the table , or in some other "secret" way (so that nobody can see) in order to make it look , like he was paying. If girls were by themselves (no man) , they would pay for their drinks themselves (sometimes they split the bill and sometimes one pays for everybody). It can be often seen here - men arguing who will pick up the bill for the whole bunch (even if there are some strangers present , not just friends). It is a complicated mentality here .
@@pedjamilosavljevic6235 It's said that Serbian women are supposedly very independent and self-sufficient.
This doesn't correlate at all with having the man pay for her personal expenses or let alone her friends'.
And why would anyone care about what strangers might think of a couple if the man doesn't pay for the entire group?
I mean... Slipping him some money in secret? How hurt does one's ego have to be for it to come this far...
Just an opportunist. I see Serbian women have adopted the mentality of Western women - Modern traditional. Feminist as long as there are benefits but then traditional when the benefits end.....as in when a bill arrives.
@@moleahy6880 It is like that , especially in big cities (as I wrote before) , but not ALL of them. It is mostly dependent on the upbringing of specific person and influences of the crowd she is socializing with. Younger women are more influenced by American TV shows and overall western propaganda . However , it is most obvious in social environments (night clubs , shopping malls...) , but majority (which is not like that) is "invisible" , doing ordinary jobs , or studying , or just living normally.
