I did enjoy Jim Carrey as The Grinch. My favorite scenes are:
The Grinch trying to decide what to wear to the Whoville Christmas party.
The Grinch giving Max direction on his performance as Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.
The Grinch returning home after the party, catching Max having his own little Christmas shindig.

Green Eggs and Ham I found far superior to ANY of the theatrical Dr. Seuss movies. Maybe because the episodic medium gives the story more time to shine, maybe because the visual style for something on a TV show budget never shined brighter with such fluid, wonderful animation. But whatever it is, I attribute the success of the project by the simple fact that it should NOT have worked. There is no reason such a project should have been possible, plausible, or achievable. But not only did it work, it became a glorious project of nonsense and heart and pure joy that the movies just couldn't accomplish. Plus, Eddie Izzard plays essentially the same role he did in the forgettable bland and boring Abominable, only... you know... in a GOOD project. And as a straightforward villain instead of the clumsiest surprise villain twist in modern memory.

Kind off a bomb surprise you were doing a Cartoon Evolution on The Grinch, since In some of the other replies for the Charlie Brown videos you were taking a break on the Cartoon Evolution this month.
I actually was expecting a Looney Tune (e.g. Taz), but since it's December and almost Christmas, It made sense you went with the Grinch (cause he's the only character other than Scrooge, Santa, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, etc. associated with Christmas).
This is the first time you've done a Cartoon Evolution of a character originated from a literature book (in the case Dr. Seuss). Looking forward to the Grinch's voice evolution this week

Hey Dave. For the Cartoon Evolution this December, I have an idea who you can do. I was thinking about Christmas characters who has a decent sized evolution and I decided on one of my favorite Christmas characters, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. From what I learned from messing around on Wikipedia, Rudolph himself has been around for about 60 to 70 years and has gone through at least a decent evolution from I believe book to TV. Also, the 1964 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas special is one of my Christmas movies of all time. This is just an idea not a request.

It's fascinating that Chuck Jones and Dr. Seuss were good friends. No wonder a lot of Looney Tunes alumni worked on animated adaptations of Seuss' stories. Speaking of which, my favorite version of the Grinch is, of course, the 1966 TV special. As for the other incarnations, the book is wonderfully told and illustrated, the live-action film has its pros and cons, and the other two Grinch cartoons are okay at best. As much i love 1966 version i always have massive soft spot for Jim Carreys version from 2000 and it has always been one of my favorite Christmas movies and one of my favorite Jim Carrey roles and i thought that 2018 version was pretty ok.
Great video Dave and take care and stay safe 👍.

Fun Fact: The reason why Theodore Geisel used "Dr." in Dr. Seuss as a pen name because his father expected him to study medicines. Also, "Seuss" had that name when he was kicked out of the college newspaper job.

    1. Chuck Jones
    2. Jim Carrey
    3. Mathew Morrison
    4. Henson Productions
    5. Freleng versions
    6. Illumination version
Some might wonder why at number 3 did I put the Morrison version well that's very simple when you think about the grinch in general he is supposed to be somewhere in between a grump and frightening. Which is part of the reason why I put the illumination version at number 6 where they got at least max right and had some good ideas however my biggest criticism with the movie is the writing especially how they wrote the Grinch and Cindy.

The original 1966 Grinch will always be my favorite. Nothing compares to it. It is easily the best of the bunch. However, I do have a soft spot for Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of the character. For me, Cumberbatch had the best movie adaptation of the classic 1966 tv special. It may not be better than the original, but it is definitely better than that atrocious Live action adaptation starring Jim Carrey.

I grew up with a Grinch doll, that I still own, though it is tucked away in the attic. I watched the Jim Carry interpretation so many times I could quote the entire movie by heart. Coming from a religious family, and being Christian myself, I have never once cared about the under tones (or blatant showing in the newest movie), but even so, I don't really see as that at all anyways. It's more of a message about caring for others and being kind to one another. It's honestly, as mentioned in the video, more anti-commercial it anything.
But to answer the question posed at the end of the video, I honestly can't deny that I love the Live action version. I love that in the newest one and this one they develop the Grinch's skills (the stealing Christmas scenes are always my favorite, because they show off how smart and skilled he is!) and yet they also develop him more deeply as a character. He's no longer just a menacing figure, he is a character with emotions and motives and that is amazing!

The original animated version is still my favorite after all these years tbh. But I also adore the Jim Carey version (my uh, unhappiness with some of his personal views aside - good thing my DVD copy is older than some of those lmao).
Speaking of the Jim Carey version, I have noticed that if you were a kid at the time of its release, you’re more likely to love that version. I wonder if we’ll see the same thing happen down the line with the CGI version and the kids who watched that one. Mostly bc I know the adults of now (including myself) weren’t impressed with it and it reminds me of my older siblings and my parents not liking the live action version. Idk, time will tell. :Va

My family loves the jim carry grinch! They watch it every year and my nephews and nieces watch it even in summer! They watched all three grinch versions but the live action one is the ones they keep going back to! Halloween special was odd. It takes places before christmas but max leaves at the end? Did he come back later or did grinch steal him back? Also grinch knows magic and can even make himself big or small! Where did all that magic powers go in christmas? Hope you can do frosty next year. So many changes over the years. Even before the special! Thanks again for these videos.

Jim Carrey, as the Grinch, in that specific one. Is exactly how I'll imagine the Grinch to be. Jim Carrey is also one of my all time favorite actors, so the role was made for him. Was never a chick Jones art style enjoyer. Everytime one his came on I'd swap channels or just wait till next thing came on.
