The best thing about the Grinch at both the Universal parks, it’s the fact that he’s the anti meet and greet character.
He’s not meant to be a cute and cuddly like a Disney character.
He’s unapologetically mean, whenever he interacts with the guest.
Which makes him such a very entertaining character.
I can see how that’s fun, but it just seems kinda intimidating to me.

I know! There’s one thing that I’ve always wondered about Jim Carrey’s Grinch and that is how he came up with the voice of The Grinch.
Fun Fact. When my brother was in high school, they were doing Seussical for the spring musical and they needed someone with a deep voice for the grinch. Well one of his friends was in the show and told the director that my brother had a really deep voice and they casted him 😂 also he had never acted before but he did a great job

Interesting, you didn't mention that the 1st Grinch with the big yellow eyes suit actually made appearances during Halloween Horror nights in 2002-2003 when they didn't allow anything scary to happen in suesslanding except the grinch lurking around the fog looking like he was enjoying the Halloween fun. So he was technically around for longer and technically counted as a scareactor

I got to see Stefán Karl Stefánsson (Robbie Rotten from Lazy Town) as Grinch in Detroit, a few years before he passed away. He was amazing for the role, and embodied every crazy Jim Carrey aspect there was! He had joined (what I believe was) a national tour of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, at the time.

I’ve actually met the actor who played the Grinch 12 or 13 years ago after the show. He’s name was Stefan Karl Stefansson, he was famous for the nick jr. Villain in Lazy town “Robbie Rotten.” Sad he died couple of years and that was the one thing I can treasure forever.

12:04 My high school did a production of Seussical a while back. The kid who was supposed to be the Grinch was just wearing a Santa suit without the beard, but no face paint or anything green, so for half the show, you've got all the Whos in the chorus with their wild hairstyles and matching outfits, and then there's just this beardless Santa Claus in the back.

He's a great Dr. Seuss character for Christmas, but he's still a fictional anti-social character for meet and greets for guests at Universal theme parks. I grew up watching the 1966 Chuck Jones directed animated TV special on DVD, parts of the live-action 2000 film starring Jim Carrey (as I have yet to see it in full), and the 2018 CGI animated film produced by Illumination (the last latter of the 2 distributed by Universal Pictures).
I love the grinch so much. I want to go back to universal during the holidays just to meet him and get to see that snark in person! PLEASE MAKE THE BOOTLEG GRINCH VIDEO HAPPEN

One of my favorite interactions with the Grinch happened in March 2012 at Islands of Adventure. Me and my family were waiting at the old stage behind the one fish two fish ride which was the old location of the Seuss show, and a few characters including the Grinch came out before the show started. While we were talking and interacting with them, I challenged the Grinch to a staring contest. He gave a look like "Dude, you know I can't blink right?" but he accepted my challenge and of course he won. That moment was very funny to me and I remember it often!
I really hope that if and when me and my family ever go back to Universal Studios during December that we could meet The Grinch. Also, Jim Carrey’s version of The Grinch is my all time favorite version of The Grinch! I specifically remember going to see that movie in theaters with everyone on my mom’s side after we had our Thanksgiving dinner that night.
I LOVE the Grinch but I was still surprised that you didn’t mention “The Mean One” hahah.

#ThisIsTheMuppITWeChoose Cookie Monster! He's always been my favorite Muppet, because he's so hilarious and adorable, and I also love cookies, so I kind of relate to Cookie Monster. I'd love to one day see evolution videos for Will Vinton mascots [The California Raisins, Domino's Pizza The Noid albeit you'd have to include other Domino's Pizza mascots for the video as Noid's costume didn't change too much.] Back to Grinch, I love the Hersheypark Costume the most, and I agree that the live musical was upsetting [mostly due to the bathroom humor IMO]. Grinch is one of my favorite holiday characters, but my all-time favorite holiday character is Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. I personaly connected to his story, and his shiny red nose makes him unique! I like that Rudolph was adapted a lot, though I did notice that after Rankin-Bass, there was a lot less adaptions of the Rudolph story. Goodtimes being the exception, but the Goodtimes Rudolph movie wasn't good IMO. Also, Santa's reindeer, including Rudolph, have rarely ever been portrayed as actual caribou and that kind of annoys me, as caribou are really pretty too. But they're almost always portrayed as white tailed deer instead of caribou. On a different note, I'd like to one day see a video on the obscure Disney Park walkarounds, including The Black Cauldron, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, and Gummi Bears characters! There's very few pictures of the Taran walkaround, but he seems to have the same fun chaotic energy Peter Pan has. As for The Gummi Bears, I'm shocked Disney barely does anything with them considering how successful the show was. Speaking of the show, Cavin looks suspiciously similar to Taran.

I grew up seeing The Grinch every year at the Old Globe. Made the first 5m wild. I recognized all the casts!
I would also like to note that during more recent years, The Jim Carrey Grinch at the Universal Parks wear a more Seuss-esque Santa outfit instead of the original outfit, which is similar to the traditional Santa outfit.

i wish I had taken a picture but I walked into a burlington one time and had a surprise. Ok so for starters I already expected something due to the squad cars and a trailer parked outside the store, but walking in I did NOT expect to see the grinch just holding onto a shopping cart staring soulessly at the door while officers were just hanging out and chit chatting. It was the jim carrey makeup and it was incredible, ofcourse because the actor (?) was standing as still as possible I actually wasn't sure it WAS an actor until their eyes moved. To this day I have no idea what exactly the story was or why it was in one random burlington coat factory. And here I thought finding the mickey at the main attraction plushes was the most incredible find. Also I did find three of those mickeys on that same trip I didn't get a single one during their drops but thanks to burlington i'm getting close to having a full collection its amazing

The inconsistencies between the costumes & looks of characters between Universal Studios Hollywood & Universal Orlando Resort has always been so strange! Disney's characters all look identical regardless of park or resort or country. The Grinch looks quite different between Orlando & Hollywood!

Jim's Grinch has an iconic look it and I know Jim had problems with the costume and makeup (he describes it as torture) but that's what happens when you get Rick Baker on board given that Rick Baker is an Oscar winner (the very first Best Makeup Oscar was given to Rick and invented because of An American Werewolf), who has over 7 awards for Best Makeup, and the park's makeup is 100% accurate to the movie (including the Who's, the Mayor included, their Mayor looks and sounds so much like him, you could have sworn that was Jeffrey Tambor himself). And also yes, yes...Stefan Karl was a fitting choice for stage grinch considering Robbie is very much like the Grinch (he even dresses up as Santa in a Christmas special).
The grinch and other Suess chats are also featured on carnival cruise ships. They have a whole green eggs and ham breakfast and a Suess parade for kids to participate in.
One time, Universal Orlando had a Character Breakfast in Islands of Adventure. They had Cat in the Hat and his two Things, Spider-Man, and the fursuit Grinch as featured in the parks pre-Carey Grinch. I think Spider-Man got more attention than the Seuss characters.

Seussical is one of my favorite musicals! Would love to see Dan in it, he'd make an excellent Horton or General Schmitz.
Jim Carrey's/Universal is the best and most entertaining, but also looks the best. The 2018 animated/ Hershy kiss costume is adorable, but it's not what I think of when I hear the name Grinch. I grew up with the original, but the Jim Carrey version is the most iconic and impressive.
