And the most perfect moon means the day that whole family should all gather together at the day! Although I am drunk now. But I still want to say this as a Chinese! happy mid-autumn festival! happy to see everyone enjoying all the fall festivals! there are so many flavours of mooncakes out there to try I'm sure everyone will find a flavour they'll like since there are so many. I recommend the modern non-traditional ones like the snowy mooncakes (the ones that have to be kept in a freezer and are eaten cold) since they have so many different types of snowy mooncakes (eg: black sesame paste, green tea, strawberry, passion fruit, pomelo, chocolate, etc.) The 美心 Hong Kong Maxim's brand tastes really good and their lava custard mooncake is amazing....the traditional lotus paste is also yummy. Most young people don't like the 5 nuts mooncake that you guys tried so iIm not surprised not everyone liked it lol
Mooncakes with single duck egg yolk or double duck egg yolk are used only in premium mooncakes that cost in excess of $50.00+ for a box of four mooncakes. Duck egg yolk is considered a much superior and upscale product to anything with chicken eggs in Chinese pastries or cuisine. The three traditional mooncake flavors are; lotus paste with double egg yolk, red bean Paste with double egg yolk and the five nuts variety which most people dislike.
Nuts-filling mooncake (五仁月饼) is one of the least appealing even for Chinese. x) Even though it is considered as one of the OG flavours. For what its worth, try the lotus paste or white lotus paste. With or without egg yolk is fine. They are good.
To bad no other family did the lantern on the lake, would have been so beautiful like fairy light over the lake. As for the moon cake. The first one you had with the nuts traditionally there is also a cured Chinese ham in it. Normally most Chinese people say that only old people like the one with nuts. I personal love it. So every year only me and my grandma n one other cousin would share this together. The second moon cake u had with the puff pastry is a traditional moon cake from the Chui Chow region of China. Since you like red bean you need to try the one that the regular moon cake shape with the red bean paste in it with egg yoke Also u can try the one with lotus paste with egg yoke too Try it out next year
