Web series creators Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld have one of the most popular and longest-running internet shows of all time. In this lecture, they discuss the story and success of their own series, while dispensing advice for budding online content creators. A question and answer session hosted by Daniel Ravner follows the lecture.
Amir Blumenfeld
Senior writer for CollegeHumor.com, Amir Blumenfeld has co-authored two books for the website, and co-created the popular Webby Award winning web series "Jake and Amir". In the world of film and TV, Blumenfeld can be seen in the movie "A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas", and as the host of MTV's "Pranked".
Jake Hurwitz
Hunter College graduate, Jake Hurwitz has written for the Hartford Courant newspaper, literature and humor site McSweeney's Internet Tendency, and Cosmopolitan Magazine. In 2005, Hurwitz began writing for CollegeHumor.com and was added to the staff in 2006. A year later, he co-created the popular Webby Award-winning web series "Jake and Amir".
"CollegeHumor"
Was started in 1999, and is one of the oldest and most popular comedy websites in the world. Located in New York City, the site attracts more than 15 million monthly users and generates more than 100 million video views per month.
"Jake and Amir"
"Jake and Amir" is a web series about the lives of two co-workers, Jake and Amir, who sit across from each other. Amir looks up to Jake, believing that they are best friends and soulmates, Jake does not. The series' creators have been releasing two videos a week for over 5 years -- last March they reached 500 episodes, each one averaging more than 500,000 views. "Jake and Amir" has won several awards, including the Webby's People Voice for Best Web Series in 2010, and is one of PCMag's top 15 best web-only shows. The series has also appeared on MTV's "The CollegeHumor Show". - Приколы
I got a date with LOD tonight. Sending her some major coin as we squeak!
:DD
She's a bot, dude.
Woah buddy, what the fuck did you just say about my girlfriend?!
+Dave Carter LMAO
The birth of todah, these coy boys have been in it for the long Paul
Noone ever doesn't take the cash...
+Ryan Welham cut to amir walking and growling at a homeless man
The guy above me is a philosopher, up vote him to Karma heaven.
You're the top what do I do
It’s crazy to see how much technology has improved since then. Now everyone has a camera that has better video and audio than the first few years of J&A
It's cool seeing how amir dodges the prank wars question now that I know it's fake
I'm the pope in this pic, ask me anytime
talking smack about this god guy
lmao I love these two but it's so obvious that they did not prepare this at all beforehand xD super on brand. Love these divas
This is a lot longer than 2 minutes.
...and i'm officially obsessed with jake and amir
The guy laughing at "five minute rule" gets it :D
agreed
sometimes the audience didn't laugh at the funniest bits
Probably because of two reasons: 1) those first few videos were harder to get into because they looked so amateur-ish, and 2) it was hard for them to understand everything they were saying.
true. though imo the “amateur-ish”-ness of the earlier videos is what makes them great
I hate to call out the description but Hurwitz has in fact not graduated from college
I told you that in confidence man
John G dont drop out of this class
You love to call out the description
Thank you for posting this. I love Jake and Amir. This is so funny.
J and A are the best
Thank you for the video.
hey thanx so much for posting this. i really wanted to get down for it but couldn't so it was great to see it in full. cheers.
Wait, so was the college humor that we know and love started by Jake and Amir?! 😍
Nah, Amir began as a writer for them and Jake was an intern
LOVE IT
"Jake and Amir is filmed in front of a live audience."
Ask them anytime
I'm digging those socks Amir ;D
I hat the under 2 minutes rule, I NEVER CLICK ON A VIDEO UNDER 2 MIN!
Because the video title explains what the video is about.
it's the second one!
Nice
Never knew beer was the first one. Don't get me wrong, I watch all 600+ episodes multiple times, much like many rewatch the office. That said beer is easily one of their best episodes in my opinion, definitely top ten.
There's several videos before that starring these two, but they're not really the Jake and Amir concept. The first one was 'quick characters'.
J&A rocks
its the second one
whats jake and amir?
XD
no I kinda have to watch short jake and amir, but we would all love to watch hours upon hours of jake and amir, meaning just one episode XD
The comment section is full of quotes.
why do the clap at everything
"TIP: Keep you videos short. Under two minutes is a good rule."
Jake and Amir should actually do this, their new videos are brutally long.
knwronic i hope you're happy now! T.T
+knwronic You single-handedly made them decide to stop doing videos, hope you're proud.
You diva roach!
commenter below me is a philosopher - thumb him up to thumbs-up-heaven
he says shit : 23:38 , 23:43
"two minutes or fewer" would mean 0, 1, or 2 minutes. "two minutes or less" means any amount of time not exceeding 2 minutes
so 0, 1 and 2 minutes also? whats your point, they are equivalent.
@@seanhardy_ "two minutes or fewer" asserts an integer number of minutes; You're counting the minutes themselves, not just using the minutes to represent 60 seconds of time
"two minutes or less" means any amount of time up to and including two minutes, which could be 40 seconds, a minute, a minute and 12 seconds, etc.
@crasherball im a philosopher? Just stop.
7D = Film quality HD... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Lol....
Israel
Stop.
"Two Minutes or *Fewer." Less time, fewer minutes.
Ah, so there's a tacit "time" at the end. Kinda ironic the video is about people losing attention after 2 minutes but the video is 45 minutes. I switched off about 3 and a half proving my attention span is about 75% longer than the average youtuber...
Think your a snowflake huh
Free Palestine
You can actually see - it got less and less funny
Harcix no. the tinder and ebola episodes were some of the best
Sooo false
Stop.
