Never have I seen someone cut up a hot glue stick with an exacto knife and hot glue so precisely. This man's attention to detail is second to none! Looks like factory applied glue!

Try to use face id uv hardening glue on sides of connector, it works fantastic, especially if you want to avoid using heat near little plastic latches etc. As always- well done ! :)
Hey thanks, good idea! I always think about how my uv mask wouldn't work well but forgot all about uv glue! Will give it a try sometime.

Hey Mr J! You should try the Qianli 007 Handle and Blade. I prefer it better than the 11 Exacto Blade. I sanded the tip a little so it wasnt so sharp. Cuts threw underfill really well and you can even scrape away underfill with the sides similar to the hockey stick tool
It's oddly satisfying, yet terrifying to see this work done. As always an amazing job.

I was gritting it every time you used the main board as a cutting mat with that Exacto. Please don’t use the computer board as a work surface.

Hmmm i never thought about using hot glue like that. Not a huge fan of hot glue usually. I probably would have opted for super glue and regretted it instantly

@@RetroPC-vy3kt No , most companies regard them as multi connection points. If you have a pre 1995 MacBook the battery is held in with screws so it is intended to be replaced. If it was not intended to be replaced it would most probably be soldered in otherwise why have ribbon cables latched in that can be removed?
@@martinr1834 Apple could have made that connection a lot more secure at little extra cost . Jason has done it with just a little bit of glue and that is all that Apple needed to do . They offer battery replacement as one of their services so it is a multi use connection

After seeing so much videos I really love to try hot air soldering myself. Think I should start buying equipment.
I have a fully functioning Thinpad L15 with a broken off power connection socket. Seems like an easy job to start with isn't it?
I'm not too familiar with that model but it looks like they're using usb-c for charging. That could be a real challenge for a first time attempt at port replacement!
IMHO is a bad idea to use this thermoglue. Because of low hardenes and such anough flexibility (one of it's ingridient is just a polyethilene). Usualy, for such delicate work i used a red compound that's making hard after heating by hot-air gun. I will wrote to you a link to this stuff.

Hi, great job on getting that connector on. Do you mind sharing where you got the connector from? I lost the locking tab on mine and would like to replace it. A quick note on the hot glue application, I used to do the same but once I had to solder a wire to a nib and in order to secure it, I added hot glue just like you did. I found out that when the glue cured, it also shrank just enough to pull the solder joint apart. Just something to keep in mind if anyone tries to secure solder joints with hot glue :)
Ok, the part about pulling solder joints apart is terrifying. 🤣 Thanks! I ordered these on eBay and they came from L2 Computer in New York. Pretty sure they sell directly outside of eBay.

You know hot glue unglues itself after some time naturally ? Especially the transparent one
You need solder wire it make job easier for this stuff
