Oh, that feeling that comes to you when you discover that what you are waiting for between you and yourself while you are working, awake, or silent... has appeared in public.. I am very eager to see another great work by the wonderful Nolan and the wonderful Cillian Murphy
Best Picture Best Director Best Actor Best Supporting Actor Best Original Score Best Cinematography Best Editing Congratulations to the Oppenheimer team for your historic Oscar win especially Christopher Nolan who FINALLY got his win 🙌
Not a Marvel, Superhero, Avatar sequel movie and the fact that this already has 30.8 mill views in less than a week. WOW, Christopher Nolan really is the brand itself
Oscar now has introducing 'diversity quota' for a film to be nominated. Oppenheimer is directed by a straight white guy and there isn't a single black person in the main cast. So good luck going to Oscar
you know what, scratch that...they aren't poetic....they're just stupid words. it is a plainly stupid thing to build and deploy a weapon of self-destruction to learn about such a weapon. the same stupidity is on full display in the race for A.I.
*July 21st 2023* Finished watching the movie an hour ago. No words can express the anxiety I felt when the detonation scene played. The sheer silence and then the loud ass kaboom🥲 WOW! Overall the movie was an emotional rollercoaster. Nobody could've made this movie more better than Chris Nolan. I'm leaving this comment here just so my future self can come back and remember it all
"Ah yes, bomb the families of the already surrendered enemies, bomb innocent civilians, how dare they stand against our world dominion, bomb them into submission yes..." And next thing you know, they abandoned their traditions, their national sport is baseball and their men are weak fem-boys who watch degenerate anime...
Cillian is one of the greats of this generation. He looks utterly transformed, physically but also the mannerisms are so on-point. Even just the eyes...This is gonna be spectacular.
It looks kinda boring to be honest. I Don't care to see a biopic of the person who created this bomb. This movie compared to Inversion, space travel, Dream worlds looks so boring
"They wont fear it, until they understand it. And they wont understand it, until they use it" what a fantastic quote. Edit: this BLEW UP. Never had this many likes before. Thanks guys, and just over ONE MONTH LEFT!! Opening day edit: LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO
honestly what a great trailer quote to use, its so simple but really hits you hard, because that's his entire motivation right there, and how it becomes so twisted, in trying to prevent nuclear war he creates it. that and sharing the secrets with the Soviets
@@GuineaPigEveryday I read somewhere that a lot of physicists working on the project suffered a moment of depression after it was used. It was described that they were so caught up in the project that they didn't realize the impact it would have until after it was used.
Not a necessary criterion, it is because of his skill, not his name, per se. One day, he might be replaced, and then that person will be replaced, the cycle is perpetual and has no end until the very end.
@@Seeker7257 Not a necessary criterion, it is because of his skill- Exactly. That's why I love Nolan. I have never watched one of his films and felt as if he's phoning it in or treating the audience as if they are stupid. As is the the case with so many other directors out there.
@@vittoriacolona Thank you for your comment, I appreciate the fact that you weigh his skill not only his name, the likes of what a person devoid of reason would do.
Weeks before the first bomb was dropped, on July 13, 1945, Japan had sent a telegram to the Soviet Union expressing its desire to surrender and end the war. The United States had broken Japan’s codes and read the telegram. Truman referred in his diary to “the telegram from Jap Emperor asking for peace.” President Truman had been informed through Swiss and Portuguese channels of Japanese peace overtures as early as three months before Hiroshima. Japan objected only to surrendering unconditionally and giving up its emperor, but the United States insisted on those terms until after the bombs fell, at which point it allowed Japan to keep its emperor. So, the desire to drop the bombs may have lengthened the war. The bombs did not shorten the war.
That name was established because of his skill to begin with. So it doesn't matter if someone says it's because of his name since it also implies the skill , feats and experiences he has shared with us that made his name for what it is.
, "Oppenheimer", it's clear that it's another glorification of the architects of destruction. It's a tale spun by the industrial ruling class, a narrative that paints the creators of the most devastating weapon in human history as heroes. But let's not forget, these are the same minds that have brought us to the brink of self-destruction, the same minds that have poisoned the Navajo Nation with their unending radioactive spill. The industrial ruling class and their nuclear energy tell us a story of progress and power, but what they don't tell us is the cost. You look on any of those trailers and you see everybody's just as lost as the people who have created this system. They just speak of the movie itself but not that it has a stark impact on our lives as human beings". But they had become so assimilated they no longer can tell the difference Fuck Oppenheimer
5/10 no mentions in the movie of the actual scientific underpinnings and struggles during the project, too much screen time dedicated to Strauss, transition in oppenheimer personality when becoming the project lead not depicted, his tremendous intellect and quickness as well, trinity test scene feels unclimatic... They focused too much on the political assiette instead of the tremendous step in science and humanity
His pain? The movie never sympathizes Oppenheimer. That’s the whole point, he keeps coming ip with excuses to build the bomb knowing what it could do, all because of his ego, then, the realization actually hits him.
Cillian has usually always been more of a side character to some of Nolan’s movies and now he’s finally the main character and it’s very well deserved for a actor like him. He’s going to kill it without a doubt
If Cillian doesn't win anything for what he is about to show us, just like he didn't win anything for Peaky Blinders, I will steal that stuff and bring it to him.
to define Robert Oppenheimer, but its meaning is more complex than many realise A photograph on display at The Bradbury Science Museum shows the first thermonuclear test on October 31, 1952BRADBURY SCIENCE MUSEUM / GETTY IMAGES As he witnessed the first detonation of a nuclear weapon on July 16, 1945, a piece of Hindu scripture ran through the mind of Robert Oppenheimer: “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds”. It is, perhaps, the most well-known line from the Bhagavad-Gita, but also the most misunderstood. Oppenheimer died at the age of sixty-two in Princeton, New Jersey on February 18, 1967. As wartime head of the Los Alamos Laboratory, the birthplace of the Manhattan Project, he is rightly seen as the “father” of the atomic bomb. “We knew the world would not be the same,” he later recalled. “A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent.” Oppenheimer, watching the fireball of the Trinity nuclear test, turned to Hinduism. While he never became a Hindu in the devotional sense, Oppenheimer found it a useful philosophy to structure his life around. "He was obviously very attracted to this philosophy,” says Rev Dr Stephen Thompson, who holds a PhD in Sanskrit grammar and is currently reading a DPhil at Oxford University on other aspects of the language and Hindu faith. Oppenheimer’s interest in Hinduism was about more than a soundbite, it was a way of making sense of his actions.
He won a couple awards for Peaky, it’s a show, not a movie, so he can’t get Oscar’s. He’s gotta couple emmy’s tho. Edit: unfortunately he has no Emmy’s, but the show has won a BAFTA award for best drama series. BAFTA is like the British Emmy’s.
Couple of things: 1. Murphy's eyes are almost like a character in themselves. They express so much, and Nolan made sure to emphasize them to convey magnitude. 2. I'm curious to see if the close ups of the atomic reaction will also act as a developing character as well, showing more and more of the reaction coming to fruition as the story develops, similar to the blood stain in Insomnia.
I'd like to see Nolan work more with Tom Hardy. He will do that too. Watch the movie The Drop. I was finding the movie a little dull, until the closeup on his eyes.
@@milesparris4045 Tom and Cillian have been two of Nolan's most consistent actors, whether the're in a small or big role. I'm glad Cillian is finally at the forefront of a Nolan movie
It never fails to amaze me how Christopher Nolan, even without attending film school, manages to create such unique, outstanding, pieces of art and become one of the best directors of all time
It's because film school can only teach you technical and theoretical aspects of filmmaking but what makes a great movie is the way a person incubates a story other thing like VFX stunt etc just serves the purpose of storytelling in bringing director's vision to life

Cillian Murphy captured J. Robert Oppenheimer's thousands mile stare so perfectly. You can see it in his eyes, the "I've done the worst thing anyone can imagine, and I regret it!"-look. This could turn out to be a must see for me, the entire premise is so chilling to the core. And especially when we know what those tests resulted in and how much it seemed to haunt Oppenheimer to his death.
You are not joking! Perfectly captured that haunted glare that Oppenheimer had especially in his later years. This is going to be a movie to watch on IMAX for sure
@@DayInDaLife I remember him never regretting using it against Japan, but I thought he still didn't like that humans had the ability to cause such destruction or smthn along the lines of that no?
I'll never forget the time I visited with a WW2 veteran, who was one of the test subject soldiers exposed to an atomic blast. With "eyes wide shut" and hand in front of his face, he could see the bones in his hands, through his closed lids, through the goggles he wore. Absolutely awe inspiring, but absolutely frightening. I would have crapped myself.
“They won’t fear it until they understand it…and they won’t understand it until they’ve used it” i’m ready for everything about this movie the dialogue, to the film scores to the cinematography.
Yes, that line struck me too. Because usually people fear that which they DON’T understand. Their misconception leads to fear. But with WMD’s, it’s the opposite. People must understand the scope of hell these things release unto the world, so that their use is never discussed flippantly
"Is anyone ever going to tell the truth about what's happening here?" - The way Cillian has said it and if you have seen the movie, the context in which he has said this line really hits you hard. What a masterpiece Oppenheimer is. And how incredible Cillian is❤❤❤

@@BinhNguyen-ek6wg No he's not. I love Bale as an actor, but hes very showy. Cillian Murphy is always understated and does a tremendous amount of acting with his eyes alone. If this was Bale, we'd be drawing attention to his weight loss or other physical transformation.
My god...Cillian's voice is stunning. It sounds frighteningly like Oppenheimer's. How does he do that? He bends his voice so well to any role. He's so underappreciated as an actor and I hope he shines bright in this movie. Edit: And the Oscar goes to...
It doesn't sound AT ALL like Oppenheimer, whose voice was high and reedy and not at all voluptuous. You can hear "Oppie" if you watch "The Day After Trinity," or google him. I'm sure Oppie's self-pitying real voice can be heard somewhere on You Tube.

@@PrisonMike117 Nolan used practical effects for the nuclear explosion in the movie. (Not an actual nuke, but he worked with his effects coordinator to emulate something that looked authentic.)

The man who is responsible for what is arguably the most impactful creation in the history of humanity……. And who’s face is filled with nothing but fear and regret for having made it. This looks incredible.
he did good making people believe he really did not intend to do it, lesser known facts by his accomplices was he pursued it with all his might and time, he was so proud of his creation to add weight to his creation he pretended to be fearful of it so the world could know how destructive it was
@@dhruvakumar7187 This is a oversimplification. He was proud when things went right as any scientist or creator would be, but he also was genuinely deeply remorseful and conflicted at what it was capable of. @@Dirtfire Oh really, what about the millions dead since the end of WW2? Plenty of wars since then, and there was no guarantee WW3 would have happened if there was no nukes. Neither the US or the Soviets had any intentions of starting a hostile conflict. The Soviets were sick of war too and just lost over 25 million people. While both the Soviets and the US were afraid the other side was going to attack them. Declassified documents from the CIA show that even the CIA didn't think the Soviets wanted to start a actual war with the west after WW2, they had no plans, no intention and no desire for a WW3. The cold war was mostly fueled by extreme paranoia. There are plenty of times in history where no large wars happened for long periods of time. There are no good reasons to think that mutually assured destruction alone prevented WW3. The only thing mutually assured destruction insured was preventing a nuclear war, since neither side wanted to use nuclear weapons in fear of nuclear retaliation. If there was no nuclear weapons in the first place that wouldn't have been an issue either. For example, say nuclear weapons were never invented at all, it actually doesn't change much, because both the Soviets and Americans would still understand a totally conventional conflict would still be devastating and cost millions of lives, probably even worse than WW2. That already was deterrence enough.
If Murphy doesnt get an Oscar for this then the Oscars will simply never be respected ever again. This is cinematic genius. This is the benchmark for brilliance
I think that with this film he can win and expecially Cillian Murphy that only see the trailer i understand that Cillian have does a great performance.
Just the facial expression of his shows the immense emotions and the heart he had put in. I won't be surprised if he is front runner for Best Actor nomination next time around.
I don't expect less than an Academy Award® nomination for Cillian Murphy as Best Actor and a nomination for Robert Downey Jr. as Best Supporting Actor. This movie is gonna be insane! Christopher Nolan never disappoints.
This is the absolute ugly between whites who praise cinematography but remain completely insensitive do this god of annihilation. There’s no fine line between. Every time Nolan releases a film, it's seriously its own cinematic event. I'm sad TENET didn't score big, but it was still one hell of an experience in IMAX, and this looks even more outstanding.
TENET was a blast, i took my chances with covid when it opened for a limited release here in the UK and I'm so glad I did. Seeing it in IMAX is really the only way to watch such a film, a film about the spectacle that is cinema. I've seen it again in my laptop and it's just not the same. Huge, huge film, in terms of just sheer cinematic spectacle it's nearly perfect IMO.

Just watched this masterpiece today. Clearly the best work so far from Nolan. Brilliant acting from Cillian and Downey. The cinematography and the direction was on a whole new level. The BGM throughout the movie gives chills and is so perfect. And ofc the Christopher Nolan X factor at the end. Now get the deserving Oscar.
What I really love the most about this trailer is the music. It’s atmospheric, strangely uplifting as well as sinister, very emotive. The swelling horns or strings or whatever they are extremely warm and uplifting, which contrasts so strangely but beautifully against the horror of the potential of nuclear weaponry. The imagery is cosmic, big-bang-esque, yet all the dialogue points to the anxiety and dread of such an invention. I love this contrast very much, it creates a strange space we’re we can sort of feel how absurd, miraculous, and horrifying it is for human beings to have reached the threshold of such power. “I don’t know if we can be trusted…” well that’s really the thesis of the whole thing aint it
This looks fantastic. Cillian seems perfect for this role. An amazing actor with integrity. Really hope this gets him the respect he deserves and leads to greater opportunities. On a side note, I'm very surprised he is not been touted as the next Bond
This is the role that will get him an Oscar nomination for sure. He's a great actor and we're looking forward to this film. My son is 11 years old and it's hard to explain what nuclear weapons can do.....this film will be a good view into the science and the immense concern about what was created 77 years ago. Unfortunately due to the way things are going with Russia and the Special Operation in Ukraine and the ridiculous rhetoric coming out of Putitler and his crony generals....this threat still looms.

The last line of the play, which I remember from years ago as it was so impactful - “I feel like I’ve left a loaded gun in a playground” 🤯 And then comes the final line “I am become death, the destroyer of worlds” black out, end of play. Wow, I remember that experience so well, it was an incredible play! It will be interesting to see it translated to the big screen
This movie is going to be another cinematic masterpiece from Christopher Nolan. Also, I’m glad that Cillian Murphy is having the chance to prove his unique performance to portray the man who built the most powerful and destructive weapon ever created.
Most powerful and destructive for sure. But I think that it may also be the weapon that saved the most lives ever. Historians are in unanimity that without the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, war would have continued for quite a while longer in the Pacific, ending with the total annihilation of Japan by a massive Allied invasion. Who even knows how many lives that would have sacrificed.
@@CristiNeagu that is not true. history is not a closed book. there is no unanimous consenus regarding the NEED TO DROP ONE LET ALONE 2 BOMBS in Japan. This is pure american and allie propaganda to try to assuage ourselves that a justified decision and moral decision was made to actually test the bomb on civilian populations and announce the US's rise as the world hegemon. we have used that bobm three times. thebfirst time was in trinity new mexico where it was tested in close proximity to mexican american and native american populations witjout warning. Spewing this lie abt yhe end of wwii is what leads to situations like Ukraine and Taiwan where the US Military Industrial Complex and media are trying to persuade and get the western public to believe that using atomic weapons would be justified in Ukraine against Russia and against China because remember that Putin is the new hitler (although the Ukrainian army is full if Nazis] and that China is scary, although we are the ones who have invaded and destroyed countries and killed civilians at the behest of our elite and multinationals. furthermore ppl are also being led to believe that we would be able to survive a nuclear attack in our cities [nyc: i am looking at you]. the US is one of the most propagandized nation and ppl in the world and wwii is a huge part of that brainwashing. this thinking is what leads to these types of harmful military decisions and the mess that is our [US] current foreign policy.
It fits this story perfectly. The atomic bomb was built to be the last weapon to end wars but the realization of it later that it could also end the world was horrifying.
I love how in each still shown in this trailer, Cillian Murphy has the expression of the man who is terrified of his creation but still goes on pursuing it without any control over his mind or heart! Absolutely genius actor and an equally brilliant director. Can't wait to watch this masterpiece ❤
I applaud Christopher Nolan's commitment to getting his shots in-camera, using film, with practical effects done on the set whenever possible. So for this one I have concerns...
I was surprised at how Cillian's voice sounds remarkably like Oppenheimer, then actually seeing him and he looks like Oppenheimer as well! I am very excited to see this movie. Murphy really brings home the terror that Oppenheimer felt about their creation. This trailer looks stunning. So excited to watch this next year in theatre!
@@johnstrawb3521 It is triumphant. And it's horrifying. It's about context. I have no doubt that Nolan will refuse to give easy answers in this film. Oppenheimer was adamant that the bombs ought to be created but insisted they never be used again. I trust in Nolan to understand that basic premise of the character.
What a great person to play Oppenheimer. Murphy has such a talent for emoting internal conflict and introspection on the faces of his characters. Oppenheimer’s direct contribution to the development of nuclear technology is as much a revolutionary innovation in science as it is a threat to peace, and Oppenheimer was keenly aware of that fact. Oppenheimer is a figure that perhaps best exemplifies the tension between human progress and the moral implications of such weaponry. Oppenheimer didn’t regret being integral to the development of such technology, but any sane man would look at his creation and feel the mitest sort of dread of the possible uses of such a thing, and how that would change the course of history.
J Robert Oppenheimer is one of the most important figures in the era of World War II. He has been long overdue for a biopic movie, I'm so glad that the movie got the right writer and director to make a movie based on his life and his career
@Scot Smith I meant by theatrically. Maybe there have been documentary movies about him but in the case of narrative feature, there hasn't been this big like this

This trailer gives me goosebumps. Murphy's face, the soundtrack, the quotes such as "they won't understand it until they've used it" are just trilling and sublime. Will look forward to this.
The TV ads are making this look like a comedy, with lighter music and Matt Damon saying ridiculous lines. This is a dramatic depiction of making the atomic bomb its serious shit. The marketing of movies is so stupid
I am floored by how crisp and beautiful this footage looks. 0:24 and 0:27 are splendid. Oddly enough, with Nolan going back to black and white (being the first production to shoot black and white IMAX footage, at that), this seems to be his most colourful and vibrant film yet. Pause the video and scroll to random times throughout the trailer. Each frame highlights the variety of colours - many feel like they could be a promotional still. In short: I am excited.
@@ricardoguzman7518 I have seen all his past movies - aside from Following and Quay - and I would say the footage I saw in this trailer stands out. I am really anticipating this movie. Nolan's work and dynamicism, minimizing the use of CGI -and Göransson’s flawless orchestral soundtrack integration ability - and Murphy's ability to immerse himself utterly into a role - this movie is a guaranteed masterpiece.

Casting Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer is the most perfect casting as we can see after the invention Oppenheimer became very lifeless. Cillian can portray that expression EXTREMELY WELL.
Cillian Murphy is going to nail his performance. A fantabulous spectacle this is going to be. The optical aspects of this film are gonna be skyrocketing. The incredible direction. Then the biopic. Christopher Nolan is at ready for an Oscar.
This feel as epic as Interstellar. Nolan is bet when he does not make a movie, but instead engages and invites his audience to participate in the cinema. I had zero expectations for this film... until I watched this trailer. I am confident, and excited to experience, Nolan demonstrating the impact this historical event delivered unto our society.
1:16 that stare itself deserves to get an oscar of its own, that stare shows the realisation that he got by seeing his own invention as how destructive it is for humans and the terror he got by thinking that and Cillian depicted that perfectly.. Hats off to such gem of an actor..
Honestly his story showcases the down side to being incredibly intelligent. A true "just because we could doesn't mean we should." Moment, i always feel bad for him cause you can tell during the creation when he realizes he fucked up in making this idea a reality, but it was far too late, I also hate how people were calling him a monster but when PH happened they sure as fuck was baying for blood(Not that that wasn't reasonable they fucked around with American they had to find out) but when he delivered now all if a sudden it was just on him?
@@nessiecullen34 It wasn't as if Oppenheimer had a monopoly on the physics that went into creating the Bomb. He was the director of the Manhattan Project, but if he hadn't been, someone else would have.
This movie was exquisite. It really makes you feel yourself instead of Oppenheimer and feel his pain. 10/10
, "Oppenheimer", it's clear that it's another glorification of the architects of destruction.
The industrial ruling class and their nuclear energy tell us a story of progress and power, but what they don't tell us is the cost.

to define Robert Oppenheimer, but its meaning is more complex than many realise

A photograph on display at The Bradbury Science Museum shows the first thermonuclear test on October 31, 1952BRADBURY SCIENCE MUSEUM / GETTY IMAGES
As he witnessed the first detonation of a nuclear weapon on July 16, 1945, a piece of Hindu scripture ran through the mind of Robert Oppenheimer: “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds”.

Couple of things:

@@Dirtfire Oh really, what about the millions dead since the end of WW2? Plenty of wars since then, and there was no guarantee WW3 would have happened if there was no nukes.
Every time Nolan releases a film, it's seriously its own cinematic event. I'm sad TENET didn't score big, but it was still one hell of an experience in IMAX, and this looks even more outstanding.
TENET scored huge. It's Nolan's best film for me. Literally the first "4D" movie.

The best cinematic experience I’ve ever had! I didn’t saw it in IMAX but wow my heart was beating fast and very loud 😅 Nolan, Cillian Murphy and RDJ really deserve an Oscar
He can out act 99% of Hollywood just with his face. After seeing that 1 scene in Inception (safe scene with his dad), thats when I knew this dude is truly a phenomenal actor.
This is the absolute ugly between whites who praise cinematography but remain completely insensitive do this god of annihilation. There’s no fine line between. Nolan knew that this was going to be a sick movie, and reestablishing such events for the benefit of his career and his fans ignores how a scientist created something that can eliminate a population in less than a second. Look at the whites praising and loving this - completely oblivious to what it really meant. I don’t understand Hollywood and how they can promote movies and the sensationalism of this - but this looks like more of an iconic figure rather than a man responsible for generations of disfigurement and death.

Most powerful and destructive for sure. But I think that it may also be the weapon that saved the most lives ever.
