I have seen all of Messiah Complex, Crystallised, Visions, and Celestial Elixir live. Love seeing the whole epics live. Having a band that can pull that off as well as any 5 minute song is so awesome.
By far my favorite band! I got to see them on Cruise to the edge. They played this song, all of Fauna, and others. Just amazing live! My wife and I ran into Richard and his family on the elevator and had a quick moment. Also had a quick moment with Richard and my bass hero Connor going to the bathroom before they played on the pool stage
I saw Haken on the first stop of their Fauna tour in 2023 in Nashville. My daughter and I stayed at the hotel just down the road from the venue. After the concert, the entire band came into the hotel to get washed up before hitting the tour bus. We met all of them in the lobby except for Charlie! So cool!!
Amazing band. I saw them live three times so far. Will see them a fourth time this summer together with Plini and I am really looking forward to that ❤️ Amazing musicians and composers creating heavy, quirky and beautiful music. A must for anyone into prog.
This is so epic! I saw Haken last year for the first time live on their Fauna tour in Seattle ! Such a great live band! Wow!! Love this band!!! 🤟🏻loved your reaction to this
Visons is my favorite song of theirs for the emotion throughout the song, and especially that broadway esque bit at the 10 minute mark. Its so extra and theatrical and i love it! I wish they’d do something similar in their more modern songs, but i suppose parts of elephants never forget is close.
Long time viewer, don’t watch every video but check out the ones from the bands I love. Haken are TOP for me, second favourite band in the world. Saw them live 5 or 6 times so far, hope they come back to the UK for ‘an evening with Haken’ later in the year Not sure if the band Ihlo have crossed your radar? They’re coming on nicely down the Haken path
Thank you again for a great video. And man this performance is just so EPIC! Amazing... That L1VE is amazing in whole. Borrowed it to my collegue and he is now a Haken fan as well. :D **EDIT** I saw Haken live about a year ago. Unfortunately (for me) they playd many songs from Fauna and I just can't get that album.. Which makes me sad... But the performance was still top notch!
I saw the New York leg of their massive tour. It was mindblowing. "An Evening With..." was not false advertising! They basically played two whole sets in a row. Amazing. And Visions was on the setlist (of course).
Hi Jim, The cd you showed, I also own and love it. This is proper progressive rock music. I would say that the band IQ can play live bloody well. I almost always prefer live music above studio music. A few exceptions for me are Echoes by Pink Floyd and Travel by The Gathering because the little subtleties that you can hear in the studio version get lost when playing live.
My first thought was, soundwise it reminds me of Dream Theater of the Portnoy era, loud n' heavy, but clear sound. And James sang in those days as good as Ross does in this song. Jordans "front stage keyboard" looks more dangerous, but both keyboard players do a great job away from their usual spot on stage. Then I had some "Metropolis" moment, Visions really is a magnum opus. Even though I compare both bands, they are different in many moments, and as Dream Theater was my non-plus-ultra in the first decade of the new century, so it might be Haken in the 2nd decade. This one song really makes me want to hear and see more. Additional info: when Mike Portnoy toured in 2017 presenting his 12-step-suite with the titel Shattered Fortress, I saw him live being accompanied by the whole of Haken except the poor drummer, as there was no job for him; Mike brought Eric Gillette with him, who played all the John Petrucci solos, doing a great job 🤘
I think there's been a lot of compassion over the years between Dream Theater and Haken but I do believe that Haken have their own identity. I actually MUCH prefer Haken to Dream Theater, I find their music more relatable and their melodies more natural.
@@jarnovilen5259 Why do people don't understand, when others don't like their favourite music ? Have you listened lately to Maraxis mixtape ? Did you get it ?
Have been curious about these guys for a while, and I say, they're not an embarrasment to themselves or anyone. Maybe a minute or two shorter and ease up a wee bit on the technical w*nking? But hey, I'm in love with ELP and can take a bit of said w*nking ;) Cheers Jim!
As much as I love Haken and i've seen them live multiple times (they play amazing live BTW), I can tell that they did a lot of post-recording for this DVD. You can see that the backing vocals are not fitting the mouth movements and Ross' voice has been re-recorded in some sections. Either way an amazing performance, but not completely genuine.
Heard this for the first time live 3 weeks ago. Visions and Crystalized in one set. What a night!!!
Wowzers!
"An Evening with Haken" tour was truly spectacular. My first concert with them, and they played my favorite songs. It's all I could've asked for.
Meu Deus.... As minhas preferidas!!!
I am short of words. I love this band, I love this epic... So perfect.

That’s awesome. I met Ross 2 years ago on the cruise and hung out with for 10 minutes waiting for a band to finish sound checking
Cant wait to see them again in London on Sept 21st.... always an amazing experience.
Same here! Can’t wait!!!!

Absolutely, 100%! Tickets this week for UK shows in the autumn!
I'm seeing them soon for the first time when they tour Australia. Can't wait.
Jealous!
When are they in Australia? I fear they won't go to Adelaide
@@tonypeake467 you’re in luck! 3rd May!

Best band to ever do it.
One of the best concept albums out there.

Just brilliant, hey?
Never heard Haken before , my bad. Some more great music from Jimbo. Cheers from Australia
Always great music from Jimbo!
Just found out they are coming to my city in Australia. Pretty excited !
Fantastic performance 😄
Great stuff, both DVD's are fantastic in this set. Great review Jim!!!
Thank you kindly!
Those guys are as great live as ... you'd expect 😄❤
They are! I've seen them twice.

Oooo, I need to check in with Ihlo again, it's been a while!
19:10 - "How many different parts of this song are there?" - All of them. :D

I was lucky to get tickets for one of the upcoming shows in fall. This one being in Finland 🇫🇮 😊

Does anyone know if they sell a downloadable version of this concert?

@@JimNewstead I agree with you if we talk about "newer" DT, back in the old days they had lots of fine melodies
I still don't get it, but I'm happy you enjoyed it! 😁
That’s the kindest, most generous “It’s shit!” I’ve ever read 🤣.
@@JimNewstead Haha! That's hilarious. 🤣
I'd never say they're bad though because clearly they're not. Just not for me.
I don't get how someone can not get this.
