I have a general feel for what the 5th-gen GTI feels like, because the owner of one is my brother, which I rode in quite a few times.I do hope soon to take one for a test drive, to end this controversy of handling and or power between the two. I'm going with DSG. Or, if anything I can wait out a year or so, learn and get the hang of driving stick shift, and buy myself a 6-speed manual. But most likely it will be DSG.

I have a Jetta 2.0TSI 200HP, it's fantastic!
Im looking at getting a GLI because for $26000 I doubt I could get a better car. The exterior is simple but noticeable, the interior looks classy but sporty. The suspension has received great reviews. Purchase a ECU flash to get 250hp/297ft torque and it can compete with the majority of the sports cars on the road. Oh....enjoy the 30+ mpg highway....yes thats AFTER the added power.
I really wish they kept that soft touch material on the dash in the cheaper models of the car like they have done in previous jettas. This one is pretty amazing in my opinion but i dont have the money for it so I got just the SE without the sunroof and the dash and some of the feeling in the car really do feel cheaper then what a VW should feel like.
The one's I've seen have all been online youtube videos, but I am certain they are 2012 GLI's not GTI's or the older model MK5. Thanks for checking though. It's definitely strange lol.

What that second 39 number means is that cars in the same size class as the Jetta have earned as high as 39... it doesn't mean that this particular car will get 39 MPG
Hey Brian! Excellent review for the Jetta GLI. I was hoping to pick one up as my future car, but I've heard many mixed reviews about this it. How is the handling compared from this to the GTI? Seeing as though these cars are both front wheel drive. Plus, does this car lack the "punch" the GTI has when you hit the throttle? Again, thanks for the review and I'm hoping on purchasing this asap. :)
Hey thanks for the review. I must admit I was really disappointed with the new Jetta being watered down so I'm happy this one seems to bring back the things I loved about the old one. Is the material on the inner doors made of hard plastic or is it soft touch as well? Finally do you know if they'll be watering down the MK7 Golf? I'm really worried about that. I was gonna get a fully loaded Golf TDI (comes with leather in Canada) or a Jetta GLI because of identical price.
@TrendMotorsVW But they aren't that really annoying shiny kind right? Are the door cards similar on the 2012 Golf or does the Golf have better ones?

I saw that as well, its all steps in the right direction but I can't get over the cheap door panels in this current generation Jetta :( I'll stick with the Golf/GTI all day long :)
haha wow nice, everyone seems to get that combo when they lease lol but yeah I realized it didnt have the trim level designations in 2010, not sure if its a good or a bad thing now that they do. I kind of like the fact that I didnt need to get at least NAV to get the Bi-xenon lights, do you have those on yours? I wish we had that options soo badly and the 18" detroit wheels as well lol
@paulicapopcorn It's just a model it doesn't mean it was designed specifically for the Autobahn lol. If you're looking for that then 911 Turbo would be the way to go. Or if you want to stick with VW then a GTI W12.
actually ride quality in MS3 isn't that bad... Do you guys have base GTI on the lot right now?

What a nice looking car! One can expect years of reliability out of this car, specifically right around 2 years.

Nice! my bf has a 2010 Candy White 2 door 6MT with the Sunroof and Convenience, it was a CPO with 30k, which model is yours and how many miles are on it? I love the car, I constantly steal it when I feel like speeding since my 2012 Fit MT is too slow sometimes. I'm thinking I'm gonna trade my Fit in for either a Golf R or Focus ST next year, I cant get a GTI now since he has one lol
I just picked up my 2012 GLI a few weeks ago. I'm just starting to notice that everyone I see posted online, the speedometer reads up to 180. However, on mine it only goes to 160. Anyone know the reason behind this? Thanks.

What makes me mad is this is an Autobahn but where are the LED accented HIDS that are on the GTI? You can still see the cost cutting for this generation Jetta in this car although it does look good it just doesnt have the premium feel that a GTI gives you.

with a remap that engine goes to 275 hp... add a full exhaust and you get 285 hp
haha what do you think is the mistake? The videos listing 180 or the 160? I don't understand why every video of the vehicle would show 180. Makes no sense.

Just in case you didn't know Volkswagen owns Audi. Volkswagen controls the Audi production and distribution of cars, therefor you will find alot of resemblance in Audi and Volkswagen
