EL is notorious for watering down iconic fragrances once taking over a brand (particularly Frederic Malle and Tom Ford). If I must say one good thing about Estee Lauder, I would say the Aerin brand is really underrated and not spoken about very often. Aerin Evening Rose D'Or is a dark balsamic rose, really gorgeous. And Lilac Path is in my top 5 Spring fragrances to wear, a really potent mouthwatering lilac. That line is definitely worth checking out.
Thank you.
Love this concept! And I always enjoy the bonus segments. I have a few fragrances from Aerin - Amber Musk, Hibiscus Palm & Tangier Vanille D’Or.
Great video with some great choices in there and I enjoyed it and have a blessed night
Great video. I got to get moving and order your scentclub kit #4. The scents really sound great. Looking forward to Raw Gold.
Fantastic video. I am so glad I got all my faves from these brands before IRFA put a vault to ingredients and before EL took over. A lot of changes since 2013-14. Thanks for the video.
I love this concept. Keep going with it.
Of course.
Great video as usual , i always learn something from every video
Thank you.
Great concept for this video, Sebastian! I’m also interested to see what EL will do for Balmain!
Exactly. Let’s hope some good stuff re Balmain. 😀
Hi, Sebastian! Great review of the Estée Lauder brands. I would love to see the same treatment same for L’Oréal and LVMH. Both have iconic houses within their holdings. I think BYREDO was just picked up by L’Oréal, too. Have a good one!
Great vid
Fabulous conglomerate and a wonderful selection of brands I too would struggle with the order between le labo & Jo Malone because quite honestly I love them all. Special mention to Estée Lauder for spellbound that was one of my personal favourites
Frederic Malle is king for sure I agree you ranked it where I would rank it. The rest of the ranking is correct but I would flip Jo Malone with Le Labo as you mentioned. Great video nonetheless.
Maybe when you are finished with the videos about the different houses owned by the larger conglomerates, you could make a video on fragrance houses that have not sold out to a large conglomerate... it's hard to keep up!
I have Radiant Mirage from the Estee Lauder private line. It is a nice "gentle" patchouli by Quentin Bisch. You should try that one :)
Definitely nailed the main ones Sebastian. Also a fan of Aramis, although it seems like EL really abandoned it in recent years. Shame because Tobacco Reserve really is quite good.
Tobacco Reserve is so good. Damn them for discontinuing it.
More of this!
Lets do this sebs 🐐🤓
Hello!!
A lavender fragrance from Le Labo?! Sounds magical.
Love me some LVMH!
Hi Sebastian - I love Radiant Mirage from the Luxury Collection of Estée Lauder. It’s simple with only 3 notes but it’s fantastic - Quentin Bisch created it for EL.
Thanks for sharing!!
Yessirrr 👍🏽🙏🏽
Great Video Sebastian Great Video u launched on youtube chanel
Appreciate it!
I think it'd be cool to do a top perfumers video or maybe top selection from each perfumer. Kinda curious if perfumers have certain scent profiles they are known for and if some perfumers use certain notes better than others (probably a subjective exercise but still curious)
When you (most likely) do the LVMH video, you’ll mention MFK. As a fan of Francis Kurkdjian and his fragrances, I’d like to see an updated Top 20 on the house of MFK. Thank you in advance.
P.S. I love the thorough explanations you make in all your videos. I also enjoy all the passion and enthusiasm you bring to your hobby. Loyal subscriber.
I am so not going to do another top 20 MFK video. It might have to be a top 10. They got rid of all my favorites. And churned out some lackluster products like to aqua forte's WTF. Absolue Pour le Soir, and Ciel De Gum were favorites and Lumiere Noir and Cashmere Oud faves too but all gone. Disappointed but maybe I'll do a Top 10 or Top 12. :)
I just ordered the small wonders collection from Estee Lauder
No. 1 Frederic Malle, Tom Ford at No. 2, I haven't tried any from the others but I think Killian would be my No. 3 their style of fragrances appeal more to me. Thanks for the video Sebastian!!!
We def agree on 1 and 2! :)
Aramis.....oh gosh, that's a blast from the past. I would recognize that scent on any man. Similar to Estee Lauder's Youth Dew launched in 1953. If you know, you know. Really great video. It's a bummer they water everything down.
I never miss a video from this channel. I have been listening to 80's music and I can't stop listening to Kiss Me by Stephen Duffy.
Thank you.
OMG Stephen Tin Tin Duffy?? Live 105 memories!!
LVMH and Estée Lauder are definitely the best conglomerates for fragrance
thanks again for your amazing videos, as for ranking I'd rank them like that :
1- Frederic Malle
2- Le Labo
3- By Kilian
4-- Joe Malone
and I wouldn't include Tom Ford as a favorite brand for me and that's for one reason only, they are too pricey for a designer .
Nice list. I think I agree with most of your rankings. The only one I can't speak of is Jo Malone. I've never tried any of their stuff so I can't say where I'd put them. I know people say their stuff is weak, but as you said, colognes are meant to be that way.
Freshies for sure! Give them a try! :)
I own a first batch bottle of Angel's Share and it's SUPER strong on me. Three sprays will last 12+hours. My favorite Jo Malone London is Earl Grey & Cucumber. I like Myrrh & Tonka and Oud & Bergamot, too. The only Frederic Malle that I love and own is Musc Ravageur. Tom Ford has a lot of great fragrances but I don't own any because I find them way too expensive for what they are...
A top of memo paris aside from the leathers would be awesome
TF Noir pour femme is discontinued and I really loved it, what would you recommend?
I often wear Aerin Evening Rose (male here), All Aerin fragrances are stunning. Iris Meadow, Lilac Path etc. Aramis made a scent called JHL (joseph harold lauder) very sophisticated.
Ooh I have it I will start wearing it.
With regards to Rankin, by Kilian would be my number 1.
Oh I see. Makes sense.
I do get great performance feom Intoxicated, but not other Kilians.
I request PUIG
Valentino had great fragrances when they were with puig and now that they are with L’Oréal I’ve not been moved by any of there recent releases. When it comes to designers I really appreciate the offerings from puig.
How is electimuss black. Civier? 😊
La labo 33 is my favorite the best one
I like their Cosmetics Company Store. Does any other company have a discount store as well?
L'Oreal did but I can't find them anymore.
Tom Ford Lost Cherry #1 for me but should last longer..and so pricey. Got tired of TF Black Orchid. Kilian Angel's Share, Back To Black are others I love. I just ordered LDBS. Will see.
love love love Tuscany for men
Wow, you've included at least one favourite from each of these brands - Angels' Share, THÉ NOIR 29, Portrait of A Lady, Tobacco Vanille are all loves for me. I'm not really a fan of Jo Malone, so I don't have any fragrances from that brand.
Oh re Jo Malone some people don't like them because they are so light.
I love their scents but no lasting power. I have to spray like crazy just to get a couple hours out of it.
I do prefer independent houses miles over conglomerate-owned, but even among those EL group is my least favourite I think...then I still prefer LVMH/Lancome/Shiseido/Richemont etc...I feel like they manage to butcher even more than the aforementioned
Any chance you can do a house review of…
-the house of oud
-Christian Provenzano
-royal crown
…. At some point this year ?
Royal Crown for sure and most likely The House Of Oud as well. Christian Provenazo might be more complicated as they don't sell the brand here in the states yet.
I worked on a Lauder counter before, we sold the Lauder fragrances by the boatload, some like Knowing, Pleasures, Beautiful, Cinnabar are very interesting.
I actually love the classic Lauder fragrances. 😀
For sure do LVMH
I think that is what I'll do next for sure. The others seem too big to take on after I thought about it! :)
I love Jasmine Sambac and Marigold from Jo Malone. The Jasmine scent is one of my favorites, kinda sweet and kinda dirty❤️❤️
Love Musc Ravageur to death!!
I do love Black Orchid by Tom Ford, I know it's not one of your favorites but🤷♀️🤷♀️
Whoa - I own all of these as well.
@@Elena-er7zp That's because you have great taste 😌😀
I really like Jo Malone. Most of them last well on me. Orange blossom doesn’t, but it smells like real orange blossom. I’m addicted to Earl grey and cucumber and Orris sandalwood.
@Cherry I like orange blossom, it is a soft skin scent on me but yes it has a very beautiful orange scent. Haven't smelled Earl yet but I love the tea. 😀
Have you tried layering orange blossom and it? Seems like they would be a good match!🙂
Jasmine Sambac is the only one I know with good projection and longevity. It's lovely
Yes! LVMH!! She is a Granddaughter, Aerin:Hibiscus palm, White Musk and I am trying out Rose de Grasse, it's an Eau de Toilette but nice. Trying to find a freshy rose that doesn't have a heavy cassis note. Hard to find. Did you know the Lauder house bought Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (Woman in Gold) by Kilmt? He is on of my favorite painters. They did a movie about it with Helen Miriam....not bad but the real story around Maria Altmann and her family is interesting on its own. You probably knew this already. Sorry 😔. Rambling again
Aerin Hibiscus Palm is one of my favorite tropical scents. Such a beautiful coconut floral
@@penelopepalm LOL, thanks 🫣☺️
Hey btw, speaking of intoxicated (coffee)...Are you going to review the other Maison Tahite collections? Particularly the coffee scents.
Yes Vanilla soon/next. And Coffee while I'm gone to Europe. I'll air it while there.
@@ThePerfumeGuy Thank you 😊
@@ThePerfumeGuy any chance you can also review some of the Jo malone Archive and the huntsman range pls.
Fig & Cassis is my favorite of the Archive. I need to visit the Jo Malone boutique here in San Francisco there is one but so damn out of the way. LOL! I have one Huntsman I got for really cheap but not a favorite too much so still need to dig into that range! :)
What I should do is do a video with a friend of mine who is the biggest Jo Malone fan and she has TONS of JM scents.
Sebastian, I think your list was en point. It makes me sad to see how much my favorite perfumes and perfume brands have changed, even though I still have the original fragrances. I am glad they are still around even though they are only shadows of their former selves. We are lucky that there are still a lot of new niche 😊brands out there, and we can make new favorites. Thank you for this video and all the info.
Thank you.
Very disappointed with LeLabo. Wearing for some years, always the same fragance, but last two that I bought almost don’t smell to anything. Can’t understand this!
I have to change to another brand.
out classes information about fragrances 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤
Oh yes Tom Ford, Frederic Malle, Le Labo all great houses under Estee Lauder.
😂😂😂 No! They ruin everything
I’m thinking Coty
The Devil 😈 🔥🔥 Just kidding 😂
I do love several Aerin perfumes.
Ha
I have recently become obsessed with Aerin Amber Musk. To me it smells like a super artificial, sci-fi musk from the future. Like something a sexy android would wear.
Tom Ford is the #1 Estee Lauder brand for me and that's an easy call. I've liked French Lover and Musc Ravageur but was put off by some others, and there are just too many great Tom Ford fragrances.
I always thought Kilian was LVMH bc of Kilian Hennessey
What is this about a le labo lavender scent? 😮
I have heard they will launch a Lavender numbered fragrance in their main line I think! :)
LVMH ❤
I just can’t get into Portrait of a Lady. It’s ok but it smells like something an old lady 👵🏻 would wear, like my grandmother would wear. I just don’t get the hype. I prefer other Frederic Malle fragrances more. I would put Tom Ford at number 1 and Frederic Malle at #2. I like both brands a lot!
Le labo 😞
I agree that Frederic malle is number one but I don't like all of Tom Ford fragrances only some of them like Tobacco Vanilla for example .never tried any of the other brands
Great.
And we say there is no manopoly in usa. What they do they say we buy you or you will not be able to sell your products in our shops and they own lots of them. I think Killian,Frederic should of stayed themselfs and be what they are.
Please do LVMH 👃🏻👌🏻
If Balmain works with Estee Lauder for perfumes, then I hope they will put VENT VERT back on the market, without watering it down.
I'm kind of interested in trying Aerin fragrances, but I heard they are pretty light and don't last long, so not sure if I wanna work on getting samples.
honestly, they are stunning fragrances. Very worth it.
Le labo price is not so user friendly. Other than that, the brands Sebastian mentioned are all my favourites. MFK Promise is the most impressive one to me.
Do you think the creativity has been diluted or is this a natural product of time?
Yes I think so. It's a bummer! I think it's the people, mass market that are making this happen though. When people want less complex easier to wear scents then the companies are going to offer that.
Quit alibiing for Estée Lauder they’ve crippled many classics in the name of Pennies for the bottom line.
Angel’s share. I drank half of it
LOL!
Clinique is under Estee lauder
Yes!
👍
All Frederic mall fragrances have been reformulated. 😢
Tuscany by Aramis is a masterpiece- check it out
I have it and love it. Dad wore it. Discussed in this video: ruclips.net/video/xOugBh8Vh3o/видео.html unless you are referring to the women's Tuscan Donna?
I would put Aramis above Jo Malone but I haven't extensively surveyed JM. I have Aramis by Aramis, JHL, Tobacco Reserve, Havana, New West.
@@ThePerfumeGuy No, I was actually referring to Tuscany Per Uomo! One of my all time favorites, every time I use it , I travel back in time to my high Scholl years. I am also Lebanese, regards from México.
Yes it's a good one and I have so many memories of Tuscany Per Uomo because my dad wore it in 1980.1982 and beyond! :)
🌹
granddaughter
Yes too young to be the daughter. 😀
VANGUARD AND BLACKROCK OWN EVERYTHING!
The question is do they own you?
@@ThePerfumeGuy NO FN WAY!
I often wonder how the creator of these fragrances would feel about the changes that are made to their work. Whether the original was made 100 years ago, or 5 years ago. If you were to consider fragrance making a form of art and expression,, it seems to me that to 'water down' or alter fragrances from their original composition is a kick in the face to the creator. I understand that changes are inevitable over time, given regulation changes, availability of ingredients etc. But apart from that, if the intention is purely from a profit basis, which i think is probably the case, especially for more recently created perfumes, then I feel like if I was the perfumer, I would be unhappy to say the least. Not Estee Lauder, but i bought a bottle of Jicky EDP from Selfridges recently. What a disappointment. think the original Guerlain perfumer would be rotating in his grave 😉
It's a shame what Estee Lauder has done to some of these masterpieces
😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m never excited when Estée Lauder acquires a brand. Quite the opposite actually.
i think its great actually.
i have kind of lost interest in practically every brand bought by EL, they just seem to become watered down versions of their former selves, and when you do that to a brand such as Jo Malone, it's I a disaster. I wish they would leave their acquisitions alone. Would never buy TF again--just NOT worth the things they are putting out now.
Ooohhhh, so Tom Ford didn’t make the list?
Frankly, I think TF is overrated.
No he's there. Did you see?
@@ThePerfumeGuy Arrgh. You got me.
