I don’t like how Mulan says, “it is my duty to fight for the kingdom.” That feels like a completely different motivation than the original, in which she only fought because her father was physically disabled, and knew he would be killed if he went to war.

Isn't like 90% of the movie supposed to be her hiding the fact she's a female and everyone is all wow you're a badass then find out shes a woman and she comes back anyway to save everyone again?????
In the ballad, Hua Mulan, disguised as a man, takes her aged father's place in the army. Mulan fought for twelve years and gained high merit, but she refused any reward and retired to her hometown. So technically yes
Hopefully, this is just an example of yet another trailer taking all the exciting parts of a movie and leaving little plot to the imagination. My guess is all of these scenes are towards the end when everybody knows.
Disney 2019: “All content on Disney+ will be available to stream with your subscription”. Disney 2020: “If you want to watch Mulan, we’re going to charge you more than a theater ticket or a Blu-Ray costs, on top of your subscription charge”. Can you say, “lying, dishonest, cheating breach of contract”?
This is idiotic. They never claimed you could watch a movie that should run in theaters for 3 months on Disney+ for free. You can just wait 3 months and it WILL be on Disney+ for free, so stop whining.

Chloe Nguyen There may be a few reasons to explain that. Mushu was disrespectful for chinese culture, as it made a dragon, a sacred symbol to chinese, a worthless caricature meant for comedic relief. it was like blackface to chinese. It would have been difficult to get another actor for Mushu, because Eddie Murphy quit acting, and the audience would have complained endlessly anyway if anyone else had been cast. They likely left out things that were not necessary to the overall plot. The animated version of Mulan was a children’s film, however this is not. In ancient Chinese fantasy dramas, characters like the witch are extremely common, making it more accurately represent Chinese media. Shang is technically still around, just does not take as much of a lead role and is a bit different due to the focus needing to be more on Mulan. Probably to satisfy feminists who didn’t like that Mulan was a bit overshadowed by Shang, seeing as how he was so memorable and popular.

@@YouScareMe1 because it's already an imprint of the original 1998 animated film, which is a Disney classic so obviously people wanted to see what they saw in that, but the remake didn't do that.
One could argue there is a touch more realism, however, I agree that they didn't stick to their own source material. It's possible, I suppose, they don't know she's a woman and it's just the witch woman that does.
thereisonlyoneproblem yes because a witch practicing dark magic is more realistic than a talking dragon. People want mushu not a cliche witch lady. This movie is just going to be another Kung pow action movie that nobody asked for that will never even come close to being as good as the cartoon.
@@wakz2618 Notice I said "a touch" more realism. I recognize the fact that it's still not entirely realistic but clearly you didn't recognize I was weighing both arguments. I haven't read the origin/source material that the original Disney movie was based upon but perhaps it influenced their decisions. Maybe the inclusion of the taloned woman harkens to the mythology originating more from that era. These are purely speculation but I didn't write the movie and I do not know why they chose the things they did. Personally I'm not a fan of the Disney remakes.
My whole problem with this is that they have stuck very close to the original cartoons for all the other Disney princess movies and this is so far the only one that’s not at all the same, without the title most people wouldn’t even realize it was supposed to be Mulan. Mulan, as far as I’m concerned was the most powerful female lead in a Disney princess movie as she didn’t need a man to help her at all, she was self made, they should have just left it alone.
i want to see this movie legally i have disney+ but not 29$ to rent a movie bit much really. if anything should just be extra fee like 6$ for less than 29$a movie can be owned dvd/blu ray. sad to charge so much just to rent or stream i wonder if people who make the extra purchase to stream it actually get to keep it on their queue
I suspect their reasoning is if a family of maybe 4 went to the theater to see this movie they would spend close to that much if not more depending on where they live. Or if you bought the blu-ray you would spend about that much. Problem is if you go to the movies part of that is enjoying the experience of being in a big theater and if I buy a blu-ray... I own the blu-ray. So it kind of make sense but they are missing the important parts of those costs.
We know it won't ... I personally don't have Disney+ and many people I know too and we don't plan to get it but we were gonna watch it on the big screen, now we won't, and prob many others.

I still don’t understand why this movie gets so much hate. I mean yes they did change some part but it’s not that bad. They removed the dragon because it’s offensive to Chinese cultures, and this live action is much more closer to the original legends. People who called themselves “movie reviewers” forgot that Walt Disney didn’t originally write this story-line. To me, this is one of the best live action remake Disney has done. Especially there are no stupid characters. The actress who played Mulan had emotional we can feel. The story-line is great. If you want a movie that has exact same plot as the previous one, just watch the previous one. (And it’s okay to hate on my bad English because I’m used to it already.)
They filmed this movie next to a Uygher concentration camp, 1 of 1300 where muslim people are being detained and tortured because of their religion. The equivalent of filming next to a nazi camp. Fuck this movie, disney should have made a movie exposing these crimes instead.
So lemme get this straight. They sell us a remake of Disney's Mulan, but take out almost everything that made the movie special, lock it behind a $30 paywall, and the main actress is potentially sketch? Hard. Pass. Oh, and because I know someone will mention it, I don't care that apparently its supposed to be more in line with the original legend, because if that was the case they should've marketed it as such. They sold us a remake of DISNEY'S Mulan and gutted the best parts of DISNEY'S Mulan and slapped in fight choreography that would make Power Rangers look impressive! If they wanted to make a more accurate telling of the original legend, then they needed to tell us that upfront, a different title would've made all the difference! Like, the Legend of Fau Mulan. There! Problem solved! But no, they wanted to bank off nostalgia for a movie that rips away what made the original nostalgic. Fuck this.
Before anyone says this, no, it’s not actually more in line with the original. Think of it like King Arthur. There are many books telling the same story, some have Merlin, some have Excalibur, some have Guinevere, some have the Holy Grail. The most commonly read in schools version of Mulan doesn’t have Mushu. But multiple versions, and older versions, do. I agree fully. Unfortunately it's much necessary, for now. Disney spent a huge chunk of its advertising budget earlier this year with the release of the Final trailer along with the Premier events back in March. It’s less blackface like Mushu was, because that was a pathetic excuse for a character in the animated film; a sad caricature intended for comedic relief, the sacred symbol of Chinese culture, reduced to nothing. This is a much more respectful film. They have done far from ruined it, they have outdone themselves. This is not a remake of the animated film, as they had already said. The Chinese government must not be estimated. Anyone speaking out against them with weaknesses can be taken out before they will even know what hit them. If she has family in places that can be vulnerable, she has reasons to lie about her opinions. Whether or not she actually believes what she says, we do not know. I wouldn’t think she only considers herself when making public statements. If you can give up your own family members, all of them, in order to say an opinion you believe in, would you? In the end, it wouldn’t matter if she said otherwise, because words from one lady are not going to stop the Chinese government. It’s too pathetic.
It finally struck me. This isn’t a remake of the cartoon. This is a retelling of the original legend. They didn’t adapt the Disney story, they adapted the myth... again. I think this was to enhance sales in China rather than make American audiences happy. The Americans are going to watch it anyway, we already proved that. But to make certain it would do well in China the movie had to suit their tastes. It’s why it’s not a musical, it’s why there’s this new witch character, it’s why Mulan isn’t fighting to protect her dad but to protect her country. This is attempt number 2 at adapting the story of Mulan marketed as a remake

They ruined it, no music, no Mushu, they know she’s a girl the whole time, like no, you ruined my favorite Disney princess movie Disney.

Mushu is not a Disney invention at all, but like most King Arthur fans don’t know about Morgana, most Chinese people don’t know about Mushu-but only because they’re only familiar with the one version they’re familiar with.

Why isn’t Shang and mushoo in this I don’t get why they had to take them out because they wanted to make it “realistic” or whatever they said(just my opinion
They got talkin animals but still want it realistic
There may be a few reasons to explain that.
Shang is in here but under a different name and has a less prominent role. This film wants to focus more on Mulan and not guys with no shirts on.
Look. Everyone has their own opinion on this decision. But here's what I think: if ur upset they removed Shang or Mushu or the songs then just watch the damn original. It's a remake so there's gonna be changes
I actually like the fact this movie has ‘grown up’ just like a lot of it’s fans.

This is a retelling of the original Chinese legend, the Ballad of Mulan.
The “princess” movie is a washed version based on an actual story that happened in history
