There are a couple of things to note. Once you are in the bios and go to OS Boot Manager, YOU USE F5 an F6 to get the SSD on the top line! Then exit with a tap of F10 to go back, do not use esc! Press enter again and make sure the SSD is first not the hard drive. If it's not first you'll go back to booting the hard drive. Then F10 to save and exit, but not untill the SSD is first. Once you reboot use explore to make sure the SSD is drive C. At this point, my hard drive was not visible and I and to use Disk Management to Right-click Unallocated (or Free space) and choose New Simple Volume in the context menu to continue. Then assign a unused drive letter to the unused space, in my case G:. If you don't want to keep the Windows 10 on it you can re-format and get the whole drive available.

Maybe I'm up the creek. I opened mine up put in an internal second 250GB SSD. connected i't to the board and started the LT. Can't get the drive to come up no matter what I do. So I had one of my Tech friends look at it and he found what you show here. There is nothing in the bios to turn to port on for the sata drive. is there anything you know on my to possible get the bios updated or unlocked to get the second internal drive to show up.
does the drive work in another system? is the board connected correctly? is it bad? Sorry there is only so much I can help with, this video is years old, and I no longer have this laptop.
@@AICvideo yes, it is a brand new SSD and I tested it. Confirmed it is connected correctly and nothing is wrong with the ribbon cable. We have confirmed that the port isn't on. @@arturomtz921 yes, I toke it to best buy and found out the little connector I purchased to connect the drive to the computer was bad. I think I was the one that broke it. So when I install my new SSD and power up my laptop will it power up normally without showing the new SSD? From there on what do I do next, transfer data over or set the new SSD as the main drive? Or do I clone the contents of the old SSD to the knew SSD and then set the new SSD as the main? Sorry for asking all these questions, thanks.
depends. I always do a fresh install personally, that way I know I'm not carrying over any bloat ware, but if you've been using it, you can clone it, or do a fresh install. You probably have to initialize the drive if you are going to clone it, in disk manager.
Do you have the OS installed on the SSD, then have it boot from the SSD? Also, do you think you could install Windows 10 onto the SSD via windows media creation tool from a bootable USB?
+g68unit yes, you can totally install from USB, I cloned mine because I had already set it up for work, and didn't want to have to go through the process of setting it up again, and then set the SSD as the boot device.
AICproductions Ah yeah I see what you mean. Did you have to disconnect the eMMC hard drive on the mother board before installing it to the SSD? Or does it give you an option of which hard drive you want to install windows on when you boot from USB? I can't remember, it's been a while since I've installed an OS from USB.

Hi , I have a hp laptop with a m key onboard so is my laptop compitable with nvme ssd and how do I knw the lane and protocol utilized and whether bios will boot the new nvme ssd
what's the model? It really depends on what cpu you have. but if you have the connecter, it should support booting from it. usually it goes that your system supports it, and they don't solder the connector on. I've never seen where they've soldered the connection and the system doesn't support it.
an 8th gen core i3 supports nvme. I cannot be 100% sure because I haven't used that laptop myself, but That CPU supports nvme. Buy one and put it in, they are not very expensive. I like Sabrent drives. I've had good luck with them: amzn.to/2Y3TNZc

I installed a Kingston 240G ssd on this and an 8g memory card, and got the ssd showing up on the disk manager and windows explorer, have windows cloned from the stock drive to the ssd, but when I enter the bios and try to set it to boot from ssd it only shows the stock drive, not the new one. Any reason why?
No idea. That doesn't make sense that it shows up in windows, but not the bios. Your best bet is to install a windows boot USB and see what it shows. Delete the partition on the standard drive and install the OS on the ssd.
my bad for being 2 months late, but what company ram came with the machine (samsung, crucial, etc.)? I want to buy another 4gb stick, but I would like the ram to be the same model.
AICproductions one more question: can I change the amount of vram manually, or does it "fluctuate" to the amount needed? (I need ~512 mb for Pit People)
you cannot change it manually. but I don't remember how much it has off the top of my head. I wanna say it has a gig, but I'll have to check when I get home tomorrow.
Anyone knows about ram upgrade in this machine, I've seen a guy putting 16gb of ram, and after a time he took off one of the 8gb stick, because the single channel, I don't understand, it don't perform well with 16? I was thinking to upgrade to 12gb but now I'm not sure
I've explained this so many times... But the system can handle 16 gigs of ram. it recognizes it, and can use it. BUT the cpu is not fast enough to really take advantage of it. I found when I went from 4 gigs to 8 gigs, the performance went up big time. but when I went from 8 gigs to 16, ram was no longer a bottle neck, and CPU was. So I didn't see the point in spending the extra money for 16 gigs of ram (which when I recorded this cost like 50% of the total cost of the laptop to do). The channel thing had to do with answer a question somebody had. If you have to exact matching paired dims, and your system supports dual channel memory, you can get a 3-5% boost in performance over an exact system that has mismatched dims (but same capacity). Its like going from a 2 lane highway to a 3 lane highway. or in other words, If you had a system that supported dual channel, and you had two 4 gig sticks, it would perform better than a system with one 8 gig stick. This system does NOT support dual channel memory, so two 4 gig sticks performs exactly the same as one 8 gig stick.

I did that, but it still boots to the 32gb drive. I did what you said in the video. the new ssd drive shows up in the BIOS and in explorer(my PC)....thanks again
reinstall windows, wipe the old drive and make sure your only copy is on the new ssd. you still have windows installed on that 32gig drive, it will default to that drive. you have to wipe it clean.
To save the space, I installed Ubuntu on my laptop. Now I added a 250GB SSD (Samsung) for installing windows, but I can't find it at os boot manager. Why? Need help.
I chang my CD driver with ssd and install windows on the ssd But when I reset my laptop it does not enter the ssd It enter the HD hard drive I cant do any thing to make the ssd is the main os
Why not just disconnect the 32GB drive that comes with the laptop and install Windows 10 from a USB drive to an SSD of your choice? That's what I'm doing.
I'm with ya dbredeson. Using the built-in eMMC is like using a slow cheap thumb drive, makes little sense, other than it's easy. I plan to install win10 on an SSD, config bios to boot from it, eliminate the mcafee avast and other junk. I've read a review on Amazon that you hv to go to HP site to get drivers since they are optimized to this machine. I was expecting this video to cover all the steps in doing that, like creating a USB boot drive from the Microsoft tool, and how to get & enter the license key, and addressing your question about removing the eMMC card, and benchmarking before and after, etc. The benchmarking is an extra step, granted, but that would be interesting.
I boot from the SSD, I left the EMMC in, as an extra storage (I keep my music on there so it doesn't take up room the the SSD, and to listen to music does not require a very fast drive. as far as the install. I did a clean install of windows 10, that's exactly the same process for every laptop, from a USB, and I did windows updates to install all the drivers. I did not need to do more than tat.
I may hook up the small drive after but initially when it was plugged in, the laptop would only boot from the eMMC drive. Even after I went into the bios and set the SSD as the boot drive.
I used Macrium reflect personally. Its free and I've used it for years so am familiar with it. But there are plenty of options, just google "clone hard drive" and you'll see plenty of options.

The cpu will blast. Cuz of high temperature the cooling fans need to be on
what if SSD is not showing up in boot options???
But the bios are basic and don't show SATA switch. I went to hp and downloaded a bunch of updates including BIOS. Still nothing in the BIOS for Sata switch
@@allabouthim03 Did you solve your problem? If so how?
@@arturomtz921 yes, I toke it to best buy and found out the little connector I purchased to connect the drive to the computer was bad. I think I was the one that broke it. I ordered a new connector from the same place I purchased the first one, toke my LT back to Best buy, they installed it and it worked perfectly.
My NVME.M2 don't detect in the boot options but It is visible when I start windows from a hard disk. I have an HP laptop HP15-cb045wm :/
I am not familiar with that laptop
So when I install my new SSD and power up my laptop will it power up normally without showing the new SSD? From there on what do I do next, transfer data over or set the new SSD as the main drive? Or do I clone the contents of the old SSD to the knew SSD and then set the new SSD as the main? Sorry for asking all these questions, thanks.
depends. I always do a fresh install personally, that way I know I'm not carrying over any bloat ware, but if you've been using it, you can clone it, or do a fresh install. You probably have to initialize the drive if you are going to clone it, in disk manager.
AICproductions alright, thanks
+g68unit you can select in bios after windows is installed on the SSD.
AICproductions Yeah, but I'm talking before that. Before the OS is installed on the SSD.

@@AICvideomodel no - HP 15DA0414TU and have a intel i3 8th gen processor with 8GB ram

an 8th gen core i3 supports nvme. I cannot be 100% sure because I haven't used that laptop myself, but That CPU supports nvme. Buy one and put it in, they are not very expensive. I like Sabrent drives. I've had good luck with them:

Hello do I have to install the system first before I set up the bios? Cause I just plugged in the ssd and did not install anything . When I go the bios I press enter and it does not give me a option to choose which to start . Thanks
Yes, you need to activate/install the OS on the new drive. it has to have a boot partition
Thanks

Why isn’t it showing in boot???
How to view sata operation?

not sure what you're asking...
My hp laptop boots alternatively from HDD and SSD, I have no idea why... It doesn't even show both of them in boot manager. When it shows HDD it won't show SSD and the when it shows SSD, it won't show hdd.. I migrated the windows(c) drive using Samsung data migration software
did you wipe the emmc storage? if not you have two boot drives. Create a bootable windows USB drive, boot into that, and delete the partition on the emmc storage (you should be able to tell which it is by it's capacity).
@@AICvideo I have already formatted the partition which contains windows in HDD, thought it would force the PC to choose SSD for boot as it will be the only one which has the OS. It doesn't work. Now, it always says automatic repair when it starts up and land me where I can choose exit and continue to windows', 'advance setting', 'power off'..etc. Now, I have to choose the SSD manually everytime I start the computer 😭.

so after the change, you enter into the BIOS to only change the SSD configuration? the computer automatically connects to the new 8GB ram?
+MurkDzombi3s correct. Enter the bios to change the boot device, which shouldn't be necessary if you delete the emmc drive.
AICproductions also is it running windows? i need a laptop with microsoft office! Thanks for the INFO!!
yes, watch my other videos on this laptop, its running windows 10. Here is a link to the laptop on amazon: amzn.to/2lRjBo6
I got the solution for ssd not showing in OS boot manager issue... This is because of collision of signature. Samsung data migration tool clone everything means everything including all signatures as well.. so when you remove ur hdd and reload the bios with only ssd then you will able to ur device in boot manager.. but when u reattached ur hdd it will turn to its previous state.. so what i did is.. i enabled legacy mode and turned of secure boot after saving and restrt i pressed f9 to load boot menu then EFI boot -> select ssd -> boot -> boot.efim something file.. it loaded the my windows in ssd then i formatted the windows partition of my hdd.
My ssd is not showing on the bios and I have migrated my os to sdd already. Please help 🙏

what I will do if ssd is not showing in the OS boot Manager?
just wipe the internal ssd, and install windows to the new one, and you should be good to go.
Delete the partition on the standard drive and install the OS on the ssd.
i also face the same situation
my bad for being 2 months late, but what company ram came with the machine (samsung, crucial, etc.)? I want to buy another 4gb stick, but I would like the ram to be the same model.
Mine had crucial in it. But it makes no difference at all whatsoever.
AICproductions Thanks!
AICproductions sorry to ask but did you find out how much vram it had?
Can I change bios! Like can.I put a different bios in?
If you know how to program and flash bios? probably. But there isn't just another bios that works with this system sitting out there on the internet.
This system does NOT support dual channel memory, so two 4 gig sticks performs exactly the same as one 8 gig stick.
at uefi not detect ssd, but at legacy detect ssd..
Same. and uefi has priority over legacy boot.

how to check if my laptop is capable of m.2 pcie
First look up the CPU you have and see if it supports it. If it does, then open the laptop to see if they included a slot for it.
thanks for your video, but after installing a new ssd and doing what you said in this one-my laptop still boots to the old drive. any thoughts...thanks again. Eric
You have to install Windows to the new SSD.
1st,thanks...I tried to format the old 32 drive it says I can't do that because I'm using it for windows OS... thanks for your help

+Carlos D. Is it initialized/ formatted?
You mean I need to initialize/ format it in Ubuntu first, then go back to BIOS to check it?
+Carlos D. I don’t know about Linux, but in windows, a new drive needs to be initialized and formatted in the disk utility.
I erased the ubuntu, and installed the Win10, but I still can't find my ssd in disk management. What should I do?
+Carlos D. If you boot into bios does it show up? If not is it plugged in all the way? Have you plugged it into another computer to check?

Why not just disconnect the 32GB drive that comes with the laptop and install Windows 10 from a USB drive to an SSD of your choice? That's what I'm doing.
+dbredeson77 because the port is proprietary, unless you buy a special cable.
AICproductions I am putting the SSD in the same place you did and installed Windows from a USB flash drive. Works perfectly.
How do you get all your stuff on the new ssd from the old 32gb that the computer comes with.
I used Macrium reflect personally. Its free and I've used it for years so am familiar with it. But there are plenty of options, just google "clone hard drive" and you'll see plenty of options.
AICproductions thanks so much.
