I really hope that Thomas is found alive! I know there is very little chance of that after 10 days of being missing but we can always hope. I bet he got lost out there and disoriented. Poor guy, just wanted to go for a hike. Thank you for sharing this, Rusty.
Rusty, thank you for posting this video. I live in Colorado, and I know that in the past there was another gentleman that mysteriously became lost there too. I feel bad for Thomas, and his family. God bless.
Tom’s neighbor and friend here: he was perfectly capable of that hike. He was excited for the trip. Thank you for bringing awareness. Please send so much love to his 3 children. There’s also a GoFundMe! A couple reactions, though: 1) it’s grossly insensitive to insinuate that family and friends are culpable. Tom didn’t need to be stopped. 2) I’m a therapist and not a betting woman, but I’d bet money it wasn’t suicide. 3) His alleged attire was actually pretty bundled up for Tom. He was the type to wear shorts in the winter. I’d make fun of him for it. Wherever he is, he is missed and deeply loved. ❤ Any info or money donated would help a family fighting complex, unimaginable grief.
I do not know if this will ever be read. But Tom was a drinking buddy of mine. We would go to deviate, half liter, or his porch to drink and talk life and politics. I remember a missing elderly hiker, lost for 15 year's in an area with little elevation (merely 100's of feet not thousands) and his remains were finally found.......in thick rhodedendrons 5-6 feet off the track...... almost within an arms length, he had fallen off a switchback down to ground level and his momentum had caused him to roll into the base of very thick foliage..... effectively "disappearing" for 15 year's.

I spent an entire day at Mesa Verde National Park hiking around. Amazing place, you can truly feel the history of the people who made their home there so long ago. It has had its share of mysterious disappearances. The 2013 case of Mitchell Dale Stehling was fascinating in that people reported hearing repeated cries for help from a male somewhere off the beaten path but could not track the voice to his location. It was as if he had entered another dimension where he could perhaps see them but they couldn't see him. His remains were eventually found much later. I pray that Thomas Irwin is found safe soon and reunited with his loved ones. 🙏

I've hiked the Petroglyph Trail. This man descended or fell down the ravine and could not make his way back up to the mesa. The south end of the loop isn't very clearly marked with directions back to the visitor center.
