    I'm pulling this from my business course years ago but as patents go an original idea that's patented is exclusive to the inventor for a period of 20 years, after that it's fair game to all.

    China has great engineers just like the US does. The bad rap (that some people can't see past) is because most chinese production is dedicated toward making the least expensive items and maintain their status as the largest global producer of goods. Out of 1.4 billion people, there have got to be a lot of smart people.

    Honestly this is really good to see, I've seen XTNG around for a while and figured with metering carbs it kinda went: XTNG < Lectron < SmartCarb but it is just hard to hear much on the XTNG let alone their newest version.
    Got one of the GPX TSE300's coming and...I'm realistic, it's a china-bike, I'm not spending $700 on a smartcarb if I get a metering carb and the bike comes with a PWK-40mm carb which feels a bit large to me, normally see 36-38mm on this size engine. Either way additional options are always a good thing.

    China doesn't copy stuff by themselves, it's usually an American, Australian or European that takes something with a big margin to be "modified". Electron, BlueMax, Quicksilver, Smart Carb all have had a run at the metering rod carb game.... Probably more.

    I watched the unboxing video. That carb looks exactly like my 38mm SC2 but with an extra screw for the pilot circuit. The stamped 38 is a dead give away. So the bigger let down for me is that it appears that SC is outsourcing the build to China or Hong Kong. And that’s pretty lame. Additionally, it appears that the manufacturer is selling the carb bodies to another company with the addition of the adjustable pilot circuit and calling it Xting.
    I stick my head out of the window when it’s closed
    Instead of air I get glass stuck into my head🤘

    • @SmartCarbFuelSystems
      @SmartCarbFuelSystems Год назад +2

      It does look rather like the SC2 doesn't it? They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...
      Let us be perfectly clear, we are absolutely not outsourcing production, parts, intellectual property, or anything else to China, Hong Kong, or anywhere else. SmartCarbs are designed and manufactured in the USA, with currently active patents and patent protection, and we plan to keep it that way. XTNG is an entirely separate entity based out of Hong Kong that has no qualms about directly copying American technology, use of technology, marketing phraseology, and even copyrighted materials/graphics from its competitors to then reproduce in China for pennies in order to undercut those competitors.
      Their Gen 1 was an exact Lectron H-Series clone down to the metering rod being interchangeable. This new Gen 3 appropriates the SmartCarb's (and earlier Edmonston-designed QuikSilver's) top clicker adjuster, TPS sensor implementation and mounting location, variable throttle rate venturi shape, and more. They have directly copied our marketing language and even used our graphics in their earlier user manuals.
      Regardless of the dubious legality of its actions, XTNG is a company that is clearly willing to copy the designs of its competitors and they are in no way affiliated with us.

    Morgan, l enjoy your videos, and was looking forward to this one a lot. But.....as clever as you obviously are, why would anyone leave the inlet manifold open, with all that dirt and grime directly above it ? And then later, start the engine with no filter installed ? Sorry, but they are fundamental no no's !! I'm not in anyway a clean freak in general life, but engines deserve respect !!. I realise this sounds negative, but cleanliness is so critical to life of the piston and bore... Still interested in the carb outcome though 😁

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  Год назад +1

      Hahaha, I hear ya. First of all with starting it with out the filter. We are inside with no dust and I check the intake before starting. There was nothing that was going to go in there. I don't know a mechanic that hasn't run a motor with the filter out inside of their shop. Snowmobiles don't even have filters because they are supposed to be in a dust free environment (but it is the world and its not perfect) and the run for a long time. As far as leaving it open like that, I check that very well before re installing the carb and trust me there was zero dirt in there. I will bet you a large sum of money that when I do a top end on this bike ( probably about 50 hrs from now) that everything will look perfect. I have done all those things on my bike for a scrillion hours and never had a failure. But you are correct, if you can operate in a world where you can keep everything out, you should. I have just been doing this for a long time and I know how to mitigate the risk even if I don't show all of that. Oh, and I have seen mechanics take a "clean" rag to put in an intake that actually had a little piece of metal in it and ruin a brand new motor on start up. It is all about checking things before you actually start them and making sure it is good.
