2:43 As an Israeli guy, they are illegal to keep here as pets because they are an endangered species. What we do have in our tiny bit of land is a sub-species of them we call "צב יבשה מדברי - Tzav Yabasha Midbari" which translates to simply "Desert Tortoise", there is very little known about them and they are critically endangered too. I've never seen one in person due to the fact that their habitat is the desert - from southern Israel to the Sinai peninsula and they are very rare to come by because of their small population these days.
What I can tell you is that they look exactly like a smaller version of Greek Tortoises, a closely related species. They are also vulnerable in Israel and there are strict laws regarding them too but they are much more common in the wild here. Also I can assure you their status is not related to the food industry in any way, at least from our side of the map because, well, they are not Kosher meaning they can't be eaten by tradition keeping Jews.

I wish i can raise an egyptian tortoise. My space is quite small and habing a turtle roam my space is better than keeping a xat or dog for me as i allergic to fur. I mostly take xare of acquatic friends along with little asian yellow pond turtles who both have great personalities. It is nice to contribute to a cause keeping their lineage for the years to come. Sadly i can't afford tovacquire that rare of a breed. So thank you for showing another video like this.

its also really hard for us to fall for camouflage if we know what to look for because our vision evolved to be really good at spotting things like lions leopards and snakes. because its one of the ways we survived. it has been really ling sinds we lost out claws and big teeth so we had to use our incredible brain too survive. partly what caused us to evolve sight that is really good at telling patterns and colors apart. much better than most other animals

I had one as a kid that the Estuary couldn’t care for so they asked my grandpa and I. It was just a normal color variant but he was missing a leg and an eye as well as part of his shell was cracked. Once he was healed up enough he went into a new enclosure they built at the estuary. ♥️🐢
