I'm so sorry some parts of the audio were so messed up :/ I'm testing some new cameras and microphones to start making these videos even better for you. (And omg editing this video TOOK. IT. OUT. OF ME.) I wanted to share this with you instead of being overly perfectionistic about it, so hopefully the overall message wasn't too lost
THIS! People just go like "yahhhh I'm living my dream, just dedicating my time to what I love" and when we go "how??? I want too!!" and then the only response they get is "yaassss guuurl, go pursue your dreams" and we are still left with "BUT HOOW??"😆😭

You’re so right. What college taught me is that a lot of people telling me that money is evil and corrupts us, had a trust fund or their parents were verrrrrryyyy well off. It’s so weird that they like to cosplay as poor and parade themselves as anti-capitalist with no real understanding of the struggles of the proletariat.
love your videos! I am restarting ballet after doing it for years when i was younger. I always felt too old to redo it but I have been so drawn to it lately. You are such a inspiration
I started ballet at 23 and you have inspired me so much! your authenticity is very inspiring and I think that age is also an energy. You are energetically very youthful as I become more of an "adult" I start to see close friends and such spirit become dimmer that are around my age that seem so like sucked in society and not chasing their dreams and energetically old. but pls never stop shining your light! no matter how ugly the world can become. I am trying to save myself from this world that wants to dim my light. It CANT.
This is real. When I was in grad school (in Boston,) I was dancing 4-6 days a week. I was working, going to school, and going to dance. I wasn't going out drinking, I wasn't. going shopping. I ate at my job and had a small food budget. I taught beginner dance classes in exchange for lessons. My priorities were: 1) spiritual path 2) survive grad school, 3) dance, 4) learn about money. If I can learn about finances and become an investor and keep dancing, so can anyone.
I cosplay and make historical clothes, not 2 very budget friendly hobby. "Cutting" on less important stuff for me ( new phone, new clothes every seasons and in general the need for new stuff), help me save soo much money that I then use for my costuming adventure🥳
The skit at 1:51 was hilarious 😭😭 you’re amazing 👏🏾 After I found out pointe shoes are $200 on average and need to be replaced quite often, I was shook. The shoes, along with the prices of classes- definitely not for the faint-hearted 😂 I’m an ex soccer player and I’d pay 90-170 for some good cleats and they’d last for 6 months. Not the case with pointe shoes. Definitely requires thorough budgeting and research. I definitely needed this video 💯
I’m so glad you found it helpful! And yes, it’s definitely not for the faint hearted haha. Also, I’ve heard pointe shoes actually can last around 6 months, especially as a beginner when you’re not dancing on them that frequently. Professionals go through them much faster because they put them through so much hell lol
I’ve been loving your new videos! The intros the thumbnails and the editing all spot on! 🥰 We see it and we appreciate it! Keep going you are my inspiration 🫶🏻
Just saying here: most of the people don't even DARE to dream anymore! And they seem to LOVE throwing rocks at people who do! And you are absolutely right with all you say! I think we all sometimes try to numb ourselfes by spending money. But the moment we become aware of it, is the moment we get the chance to change it
Veronica, I love your videos! Your editing is AWESOME and the informations are honest and helpfully. Every saturday I‘m wating for your content! Greetings from germany ☀️🥰
I also want to throw out that in my area, many studios also offer work/study programs (e.g. do some cleaning or work the front desk in exchange for classes) or will accept payment on a sliding scale for certain economic or demographic groups, so it's worth calling to chat with the front desk staff if you really want to dance and are struggling with the financial element. Dancers and teachers want people who want to dance in the studio!
I love your editing style, you’re super funny without over-doing it (although even then, that would just be my super subjective opinion and wouldn’t mean anything!), and this video was really informative, even making me feel better about making the decision to leave my hometown, and travel quite far to move to nyc❤ You earned a sub
thank you so much again veronica! i was so frustated this week because of money. your video and channel will help me in this new jorney that i want to be in.
More awareness! Thank you! Yes! I know where my money goes. My partner doesn't and doesn't care.😢 My need is just to know for sure what our household is spending on what. That would help so much. Tip I always share, I find brand new kids tap shoes, ballet slippers and even pointe shoes at Goodwill all the time. I know the pointe shoes may not be the right size and fit, but my studio offers a trade in credit for used shoes towards purchase of new ones so they have extras for fittings, and offer ballet slippers and tap shoes for $5 used for students that are new to dance so they can try it out for a class or two.
Omg that is SO smart!! Excellent tip. That’s going to help so many people, thank you for that. Also having productive money conversations with your partner can be extremely challenging 😥 (the podcast I linked in my description really helped us to have more positive “money dates”)
Thank you for helping me rediscover my dream of being a ballerina! Keep up with the good video Veronica! And yes, definitely agree that Ballet is expensive !
A note on the phone-I still use a tiny iphone SE (1st gen, from 2016) lol. It's been kinda a flex for me, which annoys some people i know. Like they don't want me to feel good about it, even when i brush it off as a silly point of pride (though it's actually a bit more serious, because of how finite a resource the rare earth minerals used in our phones are, and how dubious the mining practices for them are.) Unfortunately my little iphone is finally starting to show its age, and many functions i need are not working properly and no longer supported. We've had a good run though. In the meantime i like to think of how much more $$$ and energy I've saved-for things like starting ballet :D
clicked on this just because I love your ballet videos and left feeling more motivated to put more planning and thought into my finances in general and not just blindly spend money and be left with feelings of guilt and anxiety about my lack of savings :-) I think it's unfortunate that in the online space, especially content geared towards girls and women, money is basically never talked about.
Though there was lots of good planning and budgeting advice, I wish this video went more into how you actually afford to live in NY. You mentioned savings and other jobs briefly, and due to the title of the video, I thought that there'd be more about that. As an NYC creative with 5 jobs who doesn't shop or order takeout, I still don't honestly know how you afford to live here. No amount of budgeting can come up with rent money if you just don't make enough. Maybe you answered that in other videos, but I think the title here is a bit misleading.
This video came up on my recommended and I’m new to your channel so I’m not sure if you’ve ever mentioned this, but when I was in art school in Manhattan, my life drawing teacher was adamant about only hiring ballet dancers as nude models. If you are a dancer living in a big city and need extra cash, and don’t mind the idea of working as a nude model (and perhaps also communicate with your partner about it), use your athleticism to your advantage- art schools need models who can hold poses for very long periods of time, and some schools will work with you on how comfortable you are being fully nude or slightly clothed.
Yes, I work a couple day jobs, get a little bit of money from RUclips Adsense and the occasional brand deals, and do lots of Free lance odd jobs to make money to support this dream!
I don't think banks in my country offer automation; this is the first time I heard of it 😮 But I use a system of old tea tins for saving 😅 As for ballet, the school I go to offers classes at reduced prices if you're willing to help around the studio, for example clean the floors. My teacher also sells used dancewear which students don't want anymore. That way I got my character dance shoes super cheap and conveniently 😊
Omg these are AWESOME tips! Thank you so much for sharing that! And also definitely ask them if they offer “automatic transfers,” I’m not sure what country you’re from but people all over the world do this! Old tea tins are actually so cute though, I love that idea 💕
make all the parodies you want, but still are what you are. A privileged woman and there is notghing wrong with it. Just dont sell the idea of independence bc in the end you are a comodity. If your husband finds another woman, its the end. And I say that as a married woman who refuses to stop working, bc of the same reason. I my husband goes away I will still have a home and food
What’s the difference? I’ve been an athlete and an artist. Performing arts feel more and more like sports the older I get and I think it’s a perfectly fine descriptor. In some cases, performing IS sport. GO SPORTS 😂
Ballet/dancing is considered a sport that's why different dance styles r in the Olympics if ur in ballet it's a SPORT HUNNY and if ur a paid ballet dancer it's a job lmfao ive danced for more years than u r probably old so get over it luv cuz it's considered a sport
Ballet is physical. It IS a very defined form of athleticism. Maybe there’s a “psychocultural” barrier for some ballet purists, but, this activity is a physical sport! Going forward, how ballet shows up in the world is going to be radically and refreshingly different than it has been for more than 300 years. I believe this includes a new consciousness of the basic fact that ballet- “balletto”- originated in ITALIA, before the transplant to France. (And I’m a francophone person who has lived in France, and also speaks Italian and has lived in Italia since 1999.) Cheers e grazie! 😉
