USAF General here, with the real-life version of HAWX Flight, as you know 'em from the original game, or from this game, HAWX Squadron.
Under the same name as the in-game unit, the High Altitude War eXperimental, or HAWX, Flight is a battle-hardened group of active duty soldiers flying top-notch US aircraft.
F-35s and F-22s, along with earlier strike and air superiority aircraft, to include a modified version of the world-famous (and feared) F-14 Tomcat, armed with the feared AIM-64 Phoenix and a top-secret derivative of this weapon, are used.
The F-14 derivative is codenamed, "Sky Striker".
That's all I'm telling you about that.
We also employ the feared F-117 Nighthawk as well as combat reconnaissance UAVs (drones) such as the Global Hawk, and weaponized drones (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles, or UCAVs) like the MQ-9 Reaper, a derivative of the Predator drone.
In addition, we employ smaller recon drones that are about the size of a model aircraft, for stealthy, silent operations.
You use one of them to listen in on the terrorists' conversations in this game, as soon as mission 3 to be precise. Late in the game, you use the same type of drone to mark targets for a strike on the terror network, to be carried out by an F-35 Joint Strike Fighter as the next mission. The markers are IR flares, launched using a compressed-gas cannon mounted aboard the drone. (If you listen closely when launching the flares for the strike, you can hear a small burst of sound. It hisses, almost like a short burst spray can. You might just confuse it for static. It's actually the gas cannon firing.) In the fifth mission, you man the guns on an AC-130 in order to cover a Ghost Recon team sent in to extract Crenshaw from the terror network.
These drones use a rotor in the center of the aircraft to provide lift, rather than external jet engines or bladed props. This ensures they are silent.
    UFOs? Nope! UAVs.
They are Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, drones operated by the US Air Force.
We in the USAF can fly pretty much any US service aircraft, including the Tomcat (which was originally a US Navy aircraft) the AC-130 gunship, and these drones.
Because we are also Spec Ops, we may be asked to go anywhere and do anything. That means we are trained to launch and land on aircraft carriers, as you see here in HAWX 2. We're also trained to do other things as well, far beyond what is normally required of aircrews in the USAF.
And we have compatriots in this effort. The Pentagon has authorized construction of a 5 mecha-drone group called Dragon Squadron, controlled by the Squadron Leader in Dragon One.
For those of you who don't know the term, Mecha-Drones are both mechas and drones. (Mechas are sci-fi style, one-man robotic craft. They either walk, fly, or a combination of the two. Some are used as spacecraft, and they are usually armed. They usually show up in Japanese anime, with the most famous mecha being Voltron: Defender of the Universe, although a few Live Action shows, such as Power Rangers, used mechas as well. Most mechas are either humanoid or animal.) However, these mechas can change shape (transform) into one of two modes: Aerial Mode (Aircraft) and a land strike mode (Mecha form.)
The animal chosen for the Mecha form was a European Dragon, fierce, indomitable, untamable.
    A fire-spewing menace.
Once unleashed, no one can stop it.
To try is foolhardy. You see, the issue for opposing forces is, no one knows which one is the command unit, AKA Dragon One. This is because they all look identical, even the pilot!
A holographic imager in Dragon One scans the pilot after he's seated and has been confirmed as authorized to fly the squadron. Then hologram generators in the cockpits of Dragon Two through Dragon Five replicate him in their cockpits.
All of the Dragon Squadron aircraft are programmed to be "social defenders".
This means when one is attacked, they all respond if they are able, which means small, fast attacks are suicide.
They'll run into a wall of titanium, a burst of concentrated Gatling gun fire, Gatling laser fire, or a burst of flame.
In order from closest to farthest ranged counter, of course.
Also, if you hit the wall, you just went splat. (Nothing like hitting a wall of gigantic titanium scales to bring a suicide run to an end.)
In short, nothing less than a low-yield nuke will stop these things.
Even then, they are shielded against even the highest level of EMP, chemical, and biological attacks. So you've got to score a direct hit. And targeting an atomic weapon that precise requires either being in the blast area personally (bad idea) or having an advanced onboard guidance system with inhuman perfection as to accuracy levels. And we'll detect that.
Furthermore, multiple redundant guidance systems ensure we remain in control of all units.
And if you strike the wrong craft, it reports where it was "injured" to the other four, which immediately turn and strike back, offloading their full destructive power.
Damage is automatically reported to the CPU of each craft, the information going up an electrochemical system similar to the nervous system in animals and humans. In other words, each craft can "feel" when they are damaged.
Once that happens, the craft doesn't just say "OW!" and fly on. It sees you and any group you're with as a threat.
    And then it's weapons away!
Because neutralization of threats to the aircraft itself is priority #1.
To avoid a "Terminator" situation where these things go rogue, the aircraft REQUIRE at least one tracking device to be functional aboard, IN ADDITION to a HUMAN pilot.
CAPTCHAs work well to confirm that a civilian is working a computer screen, so why won't an authorization code/voiceprint ID/fingerprint ID combination work to confirm that there is indeed a person in that cockpit, and authorize a military person to be in that hangar?
A separate voiceprint ID and authorization code will be used for takeoff and certain strike missions.
This system (in addition to certain other, classified systems) will also ensure that no terrorist gets close.
I'm not here to brag, but I am here to watch and see whether this game does the HAWX name justice as a real-life squadron.
And perhaps, to see whether anyone is interested in the USAF now that they know HAWX is real and that Dragon Squadron exists.
BTW, the aircraft do "talk", utilizing a computerized voice modulation system to change electrical impulses into sound.
That would be quite entertaining if a historic aircraft (such as a P-51, B-17, or even a B-29) could tell you all about itself and its' service record!
Imagine if all you had to do was walk up to a PBY Catalina Flying Boat and it would speak, telling you about everything that happened in its' "life" before it retired, speaking in a pleasant feminine purr, telling you of when propeller-driven aircraft like the Catalina herself prowled the air, patrolling for U-Boats and other enemy vessels, tossing depth charges down into the sea to literally crush enemy submarines.
Imagine if a Navy battleship could guide you around inside herself, recounting famous battles and events that took place upon her decks.
Also, imagine if a historic Army facility, such as Fort Huachuca in Arizona, or White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, could guide its' civilian visitors to various sites, recounting famous events or tests that happened in those areas. (Fort Huachuca is the headquarters for US Army Intelligence, and White Sands is well-known for missile tests. But how many people know that White Sands was a divert site for the Space Shuttle if both Kennedy Space Center and Vandenberg Air Force Base in California were unavailable, and that the Shuttle had to use White Sands as a divert field on at least one mission?)
Imagine if the US Air Force Space and Missile Museum, near Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, could self-guide tourists.
Also, imagine if these facilities were not only self-guiding, but interactive, able to answer any questions you might have as a tourist.
Imagine a living time machine, using artifacts of the past, each with their own interpretation of events they participated in, one from the air, from the sea, from the land, even from under the sea and in space!
Imagine a fully interactive missile silo, where people, tourists all, played the role of silo commander, launch officers, and other silo personnel. An epic role-play of massive educational value.
Then again, we also could have kids acting out the intro scene to the movie WarGames. (Which was filmed in an actual missile silo/museum!)
Either way, that's quite an interesting concept!

+Kerry Freeman Hello USAF General. Where do you study? Elementary or Junior high? Are you planning to go to college? If so, what field would you choose?

    • @TheOneTrueDragonKing
      @TheOneTrueDragonKing 9 лет назад +3

      *****
      Very funny.
I'm a college graduate, as all officers are.
And you must be an officer in order to fly manned aircraft in the United States Air Force. (Drones can be flown by enlisted personnel, but as I said above, both HAWX and Dragon Squadron are Special Operations (Spec Ops) units. These folks can be called upon to "go anywhere, do anything, at any time." So, we must be qualified to fly both drones, and manned aircraft. So every last one of us are officers.)
And while I recommend going through the US Air Force Academy, you aren't likely to gain entry, as you must go through a very competitive selection process.
A lot of folks want to serve their country, you know,.
There are other paths, such as College (not high school) Reserve Officer Training Corps, or ROTC.
And while College ROTC (sometimes known as Senior ROTC) will get you an Officer's rank, it does not guarantee you a slot in the pilot training program.
Furthermore, you could simply go to your recruiter, college diploma in hand, and ask to be trained as a pilot.
Either way, you MUST go to college if you want to fly.
Now, I don't know whether you've heard this or not, but doctor or lawyers get a jump on others who become officers, as they get an automatic rank boost, starting at the rank of Captain (O-3) instead of Second Lieutenant (O-1). However, in truth, both doctors and lawyers are excluded from the "flying club", so to speak, and must go into the medical or JAG corps, respectively.
In any case, when you are asked what job you want, I would simply tell whoever asked you that you wish to become a pilot, and (s)he will do the rest.

Very good trolling, too bad the USAF would never bring back the F-117 or the F-14 seeing as they are both irrelevant as their roles have been largely taken by the F-16CM Facon, the F-22 Raptor, and F/A-18F Super Hornet. The AIM-54s had a terrible PK and were inaccurate as shit. The United States Air Force does not disclose clandestine operations with civilians.

We have brought back the F-14, exclusively for training purposes.
Now, the Sky Striker derivative of the F-14 is designed to be modular, like the familiar B-52 strategic bomber.
In other words, like the B-52, the Sky Strikers will be able to continue protecting the US of A for a century or more!
As for the AIM-54, it may indeed have those problems. But its' derivative is vastly improved. Actually a spin-stabilized rocket, it is nine missiles in one, with eight of the of them working off radar reflections from the radar on board the ninth "mother missile". They have Fire and Forget capabilities, so the launching Sky Striker can bank away to safety after launching.
Then, on its' own, the Mother Missile goes to work, painting up to a maximum of eight targets with its' onboard radar and pickling off missiles to wipe 'em out. The ninth and final strike is carried out by the Mother Missile itself, using kinetic impact.
It's basically a self-contained, air-to-air, guided Patriot missile battery, coupled with a lot more firepower and accuracy. Plus, it's designed to wipe out an entire squadron in one smooth shot.
And as anyone who has worked in appropriations an the Pentagon will tell you; the Marine Sniper's motto of "One Shot, One Kill" isn't exactly how it works when dealing with expensive missiles instead of dirt-cheap bullets!
However, when carrying six of these babies, you are actually packing the equivalent of 6 times 9, or 54, missiles in a neat little package.
So knowing the potential savings as far as dollar signs go --- how many would you take?
BTW, more missiles = more kills, or at least a higher chance of them.
Also, remember the opening moments of the first Gulf War when F-117s dropped pinpoint-accurate strikes on Iraqi soil?
How about when the Iraqis blindly opened up every gun in town trying, desperately, to destroy them?
How about the barrages of flak lighting up the night like fireworks as Saddam Hussain's so-called "elite" Republican Guard troops shot blindly into the sky?
      Remember that?
Well. do you remember how the F-117 was only revealed to the public eye AFTER that attack, UPON ORDERS FROM THE PENTAGON???
Well, I have orders to reveal Dragon Squadron's presence to you all.
'Course, you gave me the reaction I've been expecting.
      Disbelief.
      Doubt.
      "You're a troll."
      Truth WILL hurt!
      Literally.

+GamePlayShare I was also playing games in this ratio relatively recently, because until 2yrs ago i had a great EIZO CRT monitor, but because newer games don't really support this, i was forced to switch to shitty LCD. It took me a lot of time to get used to 60hz refresh rate.

    • @GamePlayShare
      @GamePlayShare  9 лет назад

      *****
i also using CRT display now, even i have wide-screen LCD too.
I like CRT because its low resolution 1024x768 allows me to play most games on maximum settings without need of too powerful videocard (i am using GTX650ti) and if possible i can use anti-aliasing to compensate smaller resolution.
Btw only few games do not support 4:3 ration. Most of them are ports from consoles like Spec ops: the line.
