If you are a good tall dancer, you have an advantage, people will notice you from a distance. If you are a bad tall dancer, you have a disadvantage, people will notice you from a distance. 💥
It’s more than that. Even dancing individually looks different. The choreography will look different - moves have a different visual impact. It’s harder to dance when you’re taller but if you can do it well it looks cooler
Some ideas: West coast vs. East coast Community vs. Industry Masculine choreo vs. Feminine choreo Hype (e.g. Big Will Simmons) vs. Chill (e.g. Haeni Kim) Tap dance vs. Housing
I always thought that being short is better. Most of the choreographers that inspired me were short. Lyle, Shaun, Bam... but then I was like HOLD ON! we have Tony Tzar, Marty Kudelka, David Moore... and I'm like nahhh it doesn't matter. JUST VIBE with what you have and don't stress it.
Matt Steffanina seems like a bit of a giant too. Edit: Actually just looked it up, he's actually just 6 foot, wtf must be the people he's dancing beside, he always seems like a tower.
Listen it's all a working progress, one of the girls that I do dance with is really tall and skinny and sometimes her moves de look awkward.. but only if you really pay attention cuz she covers it up with her amazing energy and just smiles and has fun!
Weight matters the key is if you are tall..just have good knee control and relax..and I guess it's pretty amazing to be tall dancer if you can make th moves wide..just this
I feel you!! I'm naturally skinny and 5'6. Ive always felt awkward when dancing which just limited my movements and my growth. Watching dancers (like Lisa from blackpink) which I think has a similar body type with me really helps.
I just love when Dassy said “if you’re short don’t doubt yourself”, and “if you’re tall, then use that” and when Jay said “just dance big and go for it initially, and expand it through your body...you don’t want to tell your story in a whisper, we want to tell your story with confidence” Me on the inside: I wish I was taller...😅😅 What they said really inspired me, I want to learn these choreographies now!
Dassy/short dancer: more explosiveness, big moves because its easier for your body to get from to A to B due to shorter range of motion, possibly to compensate dancing/match energy with taller people Jay/Tall dancer: Tends to be more detailed and intricate possibly because its harder to do big moves due to larger range of motion. When youre big or tall the small moves are still quite noticeable and a really good contrast to your size
I love the different strengths they both had and how they found weaknesses in trying each other's styles. The tall dancer had a lot of moves that emphasized his ability to really extend and the shorter dancer really showed how much power can be put into a small movement. They were both amazing!
This video just inspired me at some another level !!! I'm just 5feet ( 17y/o ) and I have been worried for a pretty long time . Thankyou Steezy for this video !! Embrace your body!!!
I’m 5’9 and so skinny so when I dance I look like a fish out of water. my arms and legs flail so much, I love being tall but looking stupid while dancing makes me hate it.
From my experience, being tall is only an advantage in things where theres a lot of focus on the limbs, anything else you have to move faster, more, lower than shorter dancers and lots of things will naturally look more awkward
SO interesting! never thought height makes such great difference tall dancer looks so commanding, uses space so well, looks elegant and moves seem complex and detailed, although looks a bit slower and awkward short dancer looks so powerful and precise, looks faster, but uses tiny space like one spot
I feel that the taller dancers get noticed more cause of their height and bigger moves. Shorter dancers have to work harder to make their moves bigger but they excel in quick moves and floor work.
Taller dancers actually have a harder time learning the same moves due to having larger levers, the result after learning it correctly is more noticeable though... so basically the grass is always greener
Dassy is so freaking amazing. She hits so hard and has so much bounce and subtlety at the same time. I would love to see her, Bailey Sok and Rie Hata do something together.
I was so sad their combined rendition of Jay's dance didn't last longer🥺 I would LOVE for them to do the whole song. I think their contrast works great together and given more time they could really exploit those differences to create something amazing. It's not a bad thing to notice that two dancers have different heights, quirks, strengths, etc, it's just a matter of them knowing how to use that to their advantage (and I have no doubt these two talented professionals would know exactly what to do). They also seemed to have a lot of fun together, which made the video that much more fun to watch ❤️
I love see them dancing together it's so cool!!! Watching Dassy makes me want to dance more than anyone else I've seen because I'm small like her and I see how powerful she can be.
OMG I WAS LOOKING FOR A VIDEO LIKE THIS! i'm 5'2 (159cm) and I noticed tall people look better dancing because their limbs are longer and give better lines. Because I'm short I have to really stretch out my arms. Another thing I noticed is short people dance faster than tall people. So I tend to be one step faster than I should and it ends up looking rushed. I have to purposefully slow down. And lastly, bending your knees helps with bounce and angles but when you're already short, I feel self-conscious making myself look even shorter (like can you even see me now? lol).
My favorite part about all these videos about dancers learning each other styles is how much they hype each other up while learning the dance. And they all come in with so much eagerness and respect for each other's special skill set. As someone who can't dance to save their life I really enjoy the camaraderie and fun they all seem to have stepping out of their comfort zones. It's truly amazing to get to watch and enjoy.
I never noticed how height affects dance lmao except in terms of levels. I'm around Dassy's height, or slightly shorter. 🤷♀️ never been affected imo but I've never been tall so idk😂
Olivia Kristina yea im also tall, and a lot of what jay chris said is pretty spot on. compared to someone shorter, i have to put more effort into extensions and level changes to get the same effect bc if i dont, then i just look weird. i think posture is also an issue for tall people
@@TheSilverCraftsmen I think posture it's an issue for everyone. It comes with practice and physical education, I'm short and I struggle with my posture as much as tall dancers.
Honestly i created a choreo for an lesson and another girl on the team is like 2 heads shorter then me and when she did it, it looked so much better, smoother and faster :,,) we could do the same thing and ill b looking like a clown lmao
im really glad that im seeing this because as a person who loves dancing my biggest insecurity was being a short dancer, i would often compare myself to other dancers and say im not good enough because im short when in reality height doesnt matter but the execution of moves does. To the person reading this and has been overthinking about the same thing... youre doing great hun just keep dancing!! :>>
Jay's choreo was FIRE and Dassy's dancing is SO inspiring from a women's perspective - will look more for her, such beautiful movements~~!! OMG SHE HAS CLASSES ON STEEZY 😍
Nice video, I'm taller than most of the girls I've danced with, so definitely when I started dancing this was a problem for me, to know if I should dance like them or what to do.

Yup that hit was dynamic

Dassy Dances very big. It doesn’t even look like there’s a big height difference when they both dance together. Props to both of them

She’s actually doing them on purpose! In popping, making your own sounds helps a lot

dassy has that like little robot shake that just makes her movements seem so much more crisp or hit.
Yet her moves still have that fluid like quality!
Steezy always brings the content I'm looking for ❤
Exactly
🤩
Same
I like how Jessie said challenges instead of disadvantages.
All short people, dont worry about ur height,
All dancers out there,Doesnt mean u r tall or short, just dance Big like he said!
The last performance they did together is so cool😭♥️
“Easier to tie her shoes” I can relate to you man I barely can tie my shoes without breaking my spine
THEIR CHOREOGRAPHIES ARE JUST UNDEFEATABLE
Give Jay Chris some credits yall. I like how he is very much relaxed but still upbeat and precise. His attention to detail is impressive too

That’s actually wrong

The second choreography together was pure fire !! One could think they've been dancing together for way longer.
I love the editing here with the extra texts when the choreographers made side comments. Really lets their personality shine in a visual way!
Love Jay's choreography
There is this breathe that Dassy takes at like 6:03 were her fingers role and it just reminds me how the smallest details make dances more immersive

I loved this! Incredible dancers, lovely people, and they have such a great dynamic together.
They're each the same amount away from their ideal height. Solution, he just gives her 4" of his height and they're both happy.
when they did Jay's choreography together oh my fucking god that was sick
The CONTROL that they both have is INSANE
OMG THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!!!!
The level that each of them have is astronomical. On each of their pieces they hit each beat so welll.
