    It may seem like a stupid question to ask if a bow is a "good" bow or not, but think about this.
    If someone asks if a car is a good car you could make the same argument of 'depends on what you need it for', still there are cars you would definitely not recommend. These cars would be considered 'not good'. For instance a Geo Metro. It's a car, and a car is a car, it will get you from point A to point B. But you wouldn't call a Geo Metro a "good" car. Eventually you need to know what someone is going to use a car for to give them the best advice on which one they should buy.
    But I would argue, what they are really asking is.. is this car well made or will it break down soon after I buy it, does this car have a history of recalls and problems or is it Reliable, does this car have components that are of a quality worth spending money on. They want to know if the bow theyve shown you is Reputable or if it has a bad reputation.

    • @neurofiedyamato8763
      @neurofiedyamato8763 5 лет назад

      I want a car. Any car is good because it's a car. Even the Geo Metro would get that job done, so it doesn't matter. No parameters then no one can recommend you what car you should pick.

    • @NUSensei
      @NUSensei  5 лет назад +8

      The thing is that if you "just want a car", you can buy a used car with a few weeks of saving money, and you have a set of wheels, which is how many people get their first car. Once you start putting up some expectations like reliability, fuel efficiency, seating capacity, then we're working with narrower constraints that can actually help you find a better car for your needs. If it's clear that you need a family car for the 4 kids, a 2-seater sports car isn't going to be right. Likewise, if you ask "Is a Ferrari a good car?" or "Is a Toyota a good car?", the answer is going to be yes for both if you don't need either. Anyone who actually tries to argue one or the other is a brand loyalist.

      The archer and the equipment make the archer. Last i check, WA, or IOC, or IAU, or any governing body of archery all have a list specific requirements of bow and arrows allowed to be used in competitions. They don't, however, have specific requirements such as arm length, head shape, shoe size, etc for the archer. It does seem like the bow makes up a great deal of what defines an archer. I always do my research before buying anything, when I got my first bow I needed one for hunting, Soo small, light and a bit more on the draw weight while being able to practice and stuff in my backyard, also wanted something where I can learn different styles of archery and learn a skill, rather than point and aim with a compound, also money was an issue and couldn't afford anything fancy soooooo I found a fiberglass "horsebow", can shoot from either side, small and easy to control, tons of different styles I can practice to find what I like, and I find it very forgiving on arrow choices ( since I'm not an expert I just picked up a pack of hunting arrows with the right spine, and still shoots amazingly although I think I'ma go to feathers on my next purchase because of the plastic vanes starting to warp )

    I can only imagine the insanity you have had to deal with. Some people have to have some one to blame if they got the wrong bow. Many people think if they have the wright bow, arrows, etc.... they will shoot better. The basics can be learned with any bow that can be drawn by the archer.
    Just to get started any bow will do, like you say, "It depends on what they are going to do with it". I am no expert by I can and have killed many animals, but I suck at the target range. Drives me crazy, so I just keep practicing. Some days I do great, others I wish I had never strung the bow. I really like archery, but it is a learn thing, I have little faith I can do what you or Byron Ferguson can do. Shooting a baby aspirin is just to wild for me.

    There is most certainly "the wrong bow". Coming from my experience. You are someone who shot many bows in your career. So this is a question maybe a beginners point of view can answer best. It's not matter of style choice, but quality. And this you need to research yourself. The whole Sammic Sage thing comes to mind here. It's a good bow, if you're into that style of archery. But it's also a good bow quality wise. The Dechatlon Intech 2 for example, IS NOT. It's a cheap bow, but a bad one. Like Nu sensei said, save up money and buy higher. You won't regret it. Unlike buying a cheap one. Don't rush into it.

Am I a inside or outside shooter or more an alternative right hand shooter? I use a recurve bow if that helps. I really enjoy your vids, they are very well done.

    • @NUSensei
      @NUSensei  5 лет назад

      This sort of categorisation wouldn't make sense to anyone, since "outside" and "inside" are not universally understood terms. For example, I understand "inside" to mean the archer side, while "outside" is the other side. To a thumb shooter (such as recorded in Saracen and Arab Archery), "inside" refers to the right side, where is the arrow is placed; outsider is the archer side. Some people refer to which side they place the arrow as thumb-side or finger-side. Normally, in a given style of archery, there is only one correct side, so there is no way to describe "outside" or "inside". If you describe yourself as such, or an 'alternate right hand shooter', no one would understand what you're talking about.

      It's a good bow. It's cheap, fairly well made, and fairly versatile. If you want to use it for casual back yard shooting, it's fine. If you want to use it for competitive trad shooting, it's fine. If you want to use it for trad hunting or bow fishing it's still fine. A bow is a bow; it does one thing well, and the main factor influencing its performance is the archer; it really doesnt matter a great deal how much you spend. The only difference between trad bows, price wise, is craftsmanship. They'll all do you just fine regardless of how much you spend... so long as you didnt pick up a cheap plastic starter bow that cost 25$, lol.

    If it's your first bow then whatever you can afford is better than no bow... I do wonder what kind of experience people might have if their first bow is a traditional longbow haha

      You kinda of develop a preference for them (first bow was a trad.)

      For "speed shooting" ? No, it's all about "you". Arrows are selected from your draw length, poundage of your bow, total arrow weight & spine (penetration vs. velocity), fletching length for flight stability, arrows materials (wood, aluminum, carbon) and finaly lie NuSensei said : "What Are Your Shooting Needs?"

      Well, I would't recommend a compund bow or olympic recurve with a clicker, obviously. Maybe a primitive bow or rather a horsebow are apt for speedshooting, considering that loading the bow and handling it swiftly seems much easier than something long and heavy with a shelf.

      To actually answer the question literally, no piece of equipment is specifically designed for speed shooting. Speed shooting may be more easily done or appropriate with certain traditional bows, but traditional bows are not "designed" for that purpose.

    Hi there, speaking of which, do you have any recommendation on thumb draw bow? Or maybe do you know where can I find one?

    • @PXCharon
      @PXCharon 5 лет назад

      Alibow make fairly good intro level fiberglass horsebows, and some pretty impressive laminated models if you want to spend a little more.
      Classic-bow.com sell the higher end Grozer and Toth made bows, pretty much the best available.
      Between these two, the price ranges available run from 80$ US, to over 1000$ depending on the materials and customization.

      @@PXCharon Wow, thanks for the info. And I finally know the keyword to find such bows, I was always googling something like "right hand draw bow" before this and that did not give me anything useful.
