The fact that that is only marginally better in high end rifles than SK+ in my old Marlin 25N is wild.

Agreed. They have lost a lot of brand trust putting out this dud.

Owning a anschutz 1710 XLR and living in the UK less than 300 miles away from where the stuff made I had lot ending 73 if I remember correctly same sort of es as you would with plinking ammo. Pistol plinking ammo at best

I bought 2500 rounds of 30072. I shot it in my Anschutz 1710 HB Competition rifle, my Vudoo sinister 360 and my Anschutz 54.30 Benchrest rifle. The best group was 1/2" with the 54.30. The 1710 and the vudoo were 3/4" or worse at 50. I got close to 1 1/4" groups at 100 and 6 inch + at 200.
This stuff is not even close to practice ammo. Those 3 rifles shoot less than 1/4" at 50 yards with Lapua Midas +.

Wow! I don't think I've ever seen an Anschutz shoot that bad. That makes this a very special ammo! Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Have you looked that the recall process through Eley yet?

Interesting…. Wow. Almost seems like same issues as the Norma ELR 22 ammo. None of my Rutgers really like Eley… love SK and most of Norma though. Would love to test this out of mine… if you still have any left, or will reach out to Eley.

Great video, can’t recall what the lot number on the one I shot, did a 100 yards group and it was not terrible but wasn’t what I expected. I think I have about 30 rounds left, will do a 200 yards test hopefully next weekend. 👍🏽🤞

A couple questions: what is considered ELR for rimfire? At what yards did you test your groups for rimfire? Last, is that Ben Avery?

    • @CopperStarPrecision
      @CopperStarPrecision  4 месяца назад +1

ELR is not specifically defined and people are pushing the limits more and more these days. At NRL22X matches (X for extreme) I've seen targets out to ~250-350 yards. I think there's something like King of .22 mile (similar to King of 2 Mile for centerfire ELR) which would be ~387 yards. But generally I consider ELR for rimfire to be 300-500 yards.
I do all my testing at 50 yards, which is where I also zero my rifles.
Yes, that is the public range at Ben Avery.
      Cheers!

@@CopperStarPrecision Nice, I mean I have shot consistently at the 300 yard goon at Rio with my CZ 457 jaguar with just federal automatch ammo, but I assume it is a totally different game when you are under pressure in a match.

I have been using exclusively my CF rifles, I unexpected received all of my CF suppressors early this year, but my rimfire can is filed using paper thus it is a very long waiting process, once I get it, I will do more rimfire as well. Did you get the Eley ammo at Scheels?

Every person who has tried this ammo has roasted it. Eley has not done their image any good with this ammo. Their quality control appears to have forgotten to do their job.

Hi, start shooting at 50 meters because that's the world standard distance eley tests its ammo at. Rim thickest is no the key to accuracy but measuring the length from the bottom of the round to the should of the round! If the brass is too long or the lead round is long or short this will make the round seat deeper or less into the rifling. Oh and still weight the ammo too. cheers

I'd like to chime in kindly here, the information your sharing is unfortunately wrong. First all,
Lot testing done by all ammunition manufacturers are final determined at 100 meters with initial sorting of lots from initial 50 meters.
Rim thickness is best matched with the headspace of the rifle. What he shared in rim thickness deviation plays a huge factor in consistency in ignition in pair with headspace.
This ammo has been recalled and has been a huge fail from Eley
Brass length variation does not do contribute to anything in accuracy and is typically very tight.
Projectile Ogive jam is more important after headspace
Measurements from bottom of the round to ogive is irrelevant.... does not contribute to accuracy and from much experience, I've seen variation +- 0.020" with no effect in accuracy
Weight sorting the ammo does not improve accuracy much. Again, deviation in weight is trumped by other factors

In my testing I have found that rim thickness is extremely important to achieving constant ignition which results in smaller SD and ES in velocity.
Also, the range I go to only has target stands at 5, 10, 15, 25, 50, 100, and 200 yards so 50m is not an option. Obviously, the dispersion would be even greater at 50 yards than 50m.
