I visited South Africa from Canada (I'm Zimbabwean Canadian) and one time a man serving me at the till literally yelled at me like "I greeted you in your language why do you answer in English? Why are you ashamed of your language " I was like dang!! I told him Zulu is not my language, I am visiting from Canada lol. He felt so bad he gave me free candy ahhahhahha! Now I miss it there lol

Victor Muthoka The competition in Kenya is not comparable. Chandaranna, Nakumatt and Naivas are NOT even close in quality and diversity to South African supermarket chains. The Shoprites in Kenya are equivalent to Pick 'n' Pay South Africa but comparable to Carrefour in East Africa. Shoprite staff in Westgate and Karen are FAR more helpful and courteous than Chandaranna or Nakumatt but that is cultural, nothing to do with the supermarket chain.

Ironically here in Kenya Shoprite has one of the best customer services
My personal experience is that Woolworths cashiers also gossip about other cashiers in other malls where they worked before. What I do to reject their behaviour is input a wrong pin at the end so they void all goods and I go to Checkers, Kwik Spar or Pick and Pay which seem to have better service in my area. Poor customer service can be avoided by buying most things online.
