I use hardware wire. And it's underground as well. We have alot of predators since I live in the country so I try to keep them out. I wish my hens runs was as tall as yours. Good job.

Thank you for watching and commenting, this is the first "winter" for this run. So far it's holding up, the netting over the top is sagging, hopefully it doesn't need to be replaced this year.

@@mikkosgarden it should do well this winter. I try to update in the spring season. This spring I will be repainting. It helps protect the wood. I have removable corrugated roofing over my hens along with hardware wire. Mine have never been rained on lol. I spoil them. I will remove the corrugated roofing if it's warm and sunny. It does give them shade tho on hot days. But their coops and runs face south and back up to the woods with trees providinglots of shade with covering.

That is beautiful. I'm working on one; only in my head at the moment, that will be similar to yours. Current one is a 9x12 amazon run + 17x17 extension made with 7 foot deer fence poles with two 2x4 headers to support the bird barrier. What kind of ground predator pressure do you have in your area? Chicken wire is meant to keeps chickens in not keep predators out. Perhaps you may want to look into hardware cloth for the lower section? This is how I did mine; hardware cloth over chick wire for the bottom; buried and a 1foot anti-dig apron. Top is shade cloth since nylon can easily be breached (as me how I know) and the entire main run and extension are surrounded by a low (4 inch) and mid height (2.5ft) electric wire. In in FL and the predator presser is ridiculous.

thank you for watching and commenting. There isn't much ground pressure from what i know. My neighbour has a lower fence (but has 2 goats) and his chickens have been safe. if something does breach the fence, I wil have to follow your advice. I covered the top to help secure the hens from trying to get out and to deter any hawks that might want a snack. I also wanted it covered for when no one is home for hours, that way I won't be wondering if they are still in the inside. Have a great day.
