I've got you! In this short few minutes video will show you how to get rid of your problems with a quick solution where you wish you thought of it first without damaging/scratching your windscreen.

Pro Tip: If the tag holder is way too strongly glued to the windscreen:
- pry as much as you can with the fishing line/ dental floss at the edges
- ask a mate to pull it with their hand while you keep prying, hopefully this will get the job done much quicker and easier without having to cut your fingers.

Mine had been there for over 10 years, it was so stuck. I tried a knife to prize it off but stopped that very quickly. The fishing line worked quickly and cleanly, thanks for your great video!

Thank you, good sir! I didn't have fishing wire so used dental floss to loosen it around edges (which broke a few times) then used a tiny sharp paring knife to gently saw away at the glue undeneath until I had freed enough glue to easily jemmy it off the windscreen without breaking the knife. Once the tag was removed, the rubber like glue then peeled off the windscreen as easily as can be without leaving any residue.

As I don't have fishing line I tried dental floss, it took two goes the first broke half way and the second time it sliced it all the way through, thanks.

My tag still works but it accidentally snapped off from its holder. Shall I just get a replacement from ServiceNSW or could I glue it back myself? I don't know which way it should face or if it needs a holder at all. Thanks in advance!!
Mine has been on for about 15 years so it was tough to remove. I had to use a heavy guage fishing line brcause the thin one kept breaking. Nevertheless, very good hack. Thanks for that

I had 4, 2 proper ones came off easy, 2 kind of 3M ones, one was quite hard with the fishing line and also after removal, the other was quite easy

i used some thin picture frame wire, it worked but it dug into my fingers a bit. possibly even dental floss would do the trick?

Hey man, you can't use dental floss. Dental floss is meant for your teeth so it's not as strong.
I just did and it worked. The trick is to not pull down too tight. The floss did tear off a couple of times but if you grab a long enough strand it'll work. Took me about a minute.
