Ugh, I hate these other two comments and thought I would put a little word in myself. Size doesn't matter and you guys should be so ashamed for your superficiality. Riley is beautiful. He's one of the warmest, intelligent and most welcoming people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He's super talented and has incredible repertoire, but somehow manages to keep it real. What a pleasure it is to have these videos available. Thank you !
Riley is being nice because he knows that back in the 1950s when Doc Watson was just a young blind man trying to make a few extra dollars playing in the streets, the Boone cops would chase Doc away.
Riley perfectly captured the anxiety of coal miner music. Sounds like the banjo has bathed breath, is nervous and ready for something to happen, much like the mentality of a coal miner in the mine, waiting for a leak or a collapse
i've been puzzled as well. It's in 'dock boggs' tuning, so e CFGC, except relative, because he's tuned a fair bit higher, and also the thumb string is tuned up to G. so it's g CFGC relative tuning. Unusual actually, Clifton hicks plays it out of e CFGC, and others play it in double C.
