I can't belive you guys didn't leave this scene Jet: I know they're firebenders, I saw the old man heating his tea! Random costumer: ...he works in a tea shop
No, but there should be one, it has a huge amount of potential to be turned into one. But, since it's a beloved animated series with top notch writing, you need to get someone who knows how to actually write, and possibly direct, a movie for this series. I can't really think of anyone, but I can definitely tell you that the last person they should get is M Night Shyamalan, boy does that guy suck, hiring him would just be plain stupid.
The Diamond_Fox The joke went right over your head. I'm well aware there was a terrible movie based on the show, and it was directed and written by Shyamalan, that's why I said the guy sucks.
*"This doesn't feel like a kids show"* This is exactly the reason why "The Last Airbender" and the sequel "Legend of Korra" are loved so much by young and adult people alike. The themes and topics, the story writing overall are very mature if you actually look into it. And of course, the artstyle and animation are great as well, not only in fighting scenes :D
Don't agree on the legend of Korra. It had a very immature view on mature topics, while TLA had a very introspective view on a simple topic, so even children could learn from it.
Probably because it highlights how well built this world is, so distinct from our own that the idea of "Just Bear" in the Avatar world really does seem weird.
One of the best. Season 3 is definitely the best for me, it has so many cool and fun episodes like that one (Nightmares and daydreams) and the beach. And other amazing stuff I can't say.
Omg im binge watching these reactions and I past you comment when I watched this video thinking it was a joke bc I forgot all about that scene. LMAO I came back here just to reference that OMEGA LOL
This fight does such a good job of highlighting just how much more comfortable Zuko is as a swordsman compared to his fire bending when he's bending you can see that his movement is stiff and like his just replicating positions on a manual there little flow and he is not adapting when he needs to, but when he's sword fighting his movement is smoother he's more balanced and is able to act and react well.
"There is no war within the walls. Here we are safe. Here we are free" That, the music, and Joo Dee always made this episode creepy for me With Jet, what I find ironic is that he's right about Iroh and Zuko being Fire Nation but because of the way he was acting, he just came off as crazy. Awhh, poor Sokka's boomerang :(
StygianTraveler141 All the Joo Dees then lol And yeah of course! But still, Jet isn't wrong about Iroh and Zuko being Fire Nation and that's what I find so tragically ironic xD ...In his mind, he was doing the right thing. To an outsiders' POV, he's crazy and to his friends, he's obsessed
+Talisguy Its not bad writing it's supposed to show how scarred he is. They were supposed to move on and live free but his deep rooted anger and obsessions wouldn't allow that. The tragedy of his future is showed by how his friends react to what he does they don't agree they just want peace and are worried how he'll end up and as we know from the future his obsessions are not good.
And it’s like oh yes everyone from the fire nation is a deranged killer who will kill me, not like oh the people are oppressed and they might be running for their lives?
@@solairethesunacolyte5341 Oh yeah, I get what you're saying but man, kid me didn't really think things in that way. The Fire Nation for the most part has been shown in mostly a negative light (with a few humanizing moments here and there) but this season really helped to show that not everything and everyone is so black and white.
Fun fact that was cut from the official series, the Dai lee was created by Avatar kyoshi as ba sing sae as an elite group of earthbenders (like the Terra team but actually scary to fight against) be prepared to hate these guys.
+Bryzantine No it's not, and it wasn't cut from the series either. It was revealed in an online game called Escape From the Spirit World, which took place between Seasons 2 and 3.
Bryzantine No, in Season 3, she talks about Shin the Conquerer. Google it if you want, look up Escape From the Spirit World and you'll see that Kyoshi talks about how she created the Dai Li.
MetallicaRules I know about the escape. Pretty sure it's non canon. I remember watching it and there was one plot hole that got to me. I gotta re watch it to find it
I love the concept that Bang Sing Se is a falsely utopian city: people are brainwashed through hypnotization, war cannot be mentioned and walls separate social classes.
The Dai Ali are supposed to represent the Men in Black trope...agents dressed in black with their eyes covered (usually with shades) who's job is to keep people from knowing the "truth" and to secure those who do. Examples are the Agents from the Matrix and the Men in Black movies with Will Smith
Damn, I really love you guys - this is exactly what a reaction should be! Edited down footage of the live reaction and an interesting discussion about what you watched. Thanks for the daily entertainment!
I know I'm over a year late and am just binging the absolute life out of this playlist, but I still love how the bending in this show is based off of actual martial arts.
Alex Majin Phrasing, boom! (sorry, currently binge-watcging Archer, couldn't help myself. Totally a show Blind Wave should react to at one point btw :p )
This is one of my favourite episodes. I only watched sporadically before, but this one showed me the adult themes and great storytelling. Can't wait for next one, hope to see some tears when the soldier boy comes marching home.
They call it "earth, but a fantheory, one that one of the creators supports, is that Avatar takes place on a smaller planet than ours, with lower gravity, which explains why they're able to get across the planet so quickly, do amazing acrobatic moves even without bending, not get as hurt by impacts, falls, etc
The rest of this series goes only up from here I'm so excited! Keep it up Blind Wave only Calvin knows how truly awesome this show is but you'll finish it soon!!
No accident that the Dai Li resemble the SS and similar organizations--they're named after the real-life Lt. Gen. Dai Li, who founded the Chinese secret police during WWII, earning the nickname "Himmler of China." Just like the Dai Li are supposedly part of the "good guys" because they're Earthbenders, but pretty obviously villains, the RL Dai Li was a literal fascist who got U.S. support because he was helping fight our enemies (Imperial Japan during WWII, then the Communist Party of China after). And he's voiced by Clancy "Lex fucking Luthor" Brown, who is absolute perfection here. One of my favorite voice actors and one of my favorite characters in the show! (Favorite in the love-to-hate sense, anyway.)
Damn, this is up earlier than usual, not that I'm complaining or anything. This is a fantastic episode, so much content in just 24 minutes, great writing and pacing.
If you check out the short documentary on the ATLA, they shot real fight scenes with a real martial artist then used that shots as a basis of some kind, pretty cool stuff.
It makes me feel great how others are discovering our favorite series and enjoying yhe writing, story and action that's animated superbly!!!! Can't wait 4 u guys to see the crossroads of destiny finale!!!!!!!
you guys made me love this show and I'm glad to see you all reacting to my favorite show. You guys inspired me to get the full set myself and that is what I have been binge watching it.
I've always loved this episode, especially because the Dai Li are just awesome. By the way, are the time limitations for avatar footage different from other show, because this one definitely didn't have 10 minutes, and I feel like the other Avatar episodes did, though I might be wrong on that.
I don't know how long its been this way but the drill episode right before this one says it's blocked in my country. Do any of you at Blind Wave have any intention of uploading it to the main site?
That was a very enjoyable and awesome reaction guys! Such a great show and I'm so happy you decided to react to it! You guys are fantastic and one of the best! there's more or less 20 more episodes to finish the series until then I'm pretty sure they will hooked up with the Avatar series so prrobably wil do it
The whole Ba Sing Se storyline is basically pulled from the last days of Qing Dynasty China, from what they were wearing, the city design, and even the design of the Earth King himself who is made to look like the last emperor of China Puyi, who was in the same way a puppet king and under the control of the Japanese and various other powerful figures.
This episode was quite unnerving as a kid. I hadn't been introduced to themes or subjects like Brainwashing or Political puppets secret police. It has great fights gives the city great depth and mystery AND shows more reasons why earth bending is so awesome. That's why it remains one of my favorites. And the next episode makes me Tear-Bend. The crew have tried doing that before and it just added more to their workload so they stopped doing it. They most likely won't do that again because they have got enough work already.
After the Serpent's Pass episode I was wondering about Smellerbee and Longshot, and then in the Avatar extras for this episode it says that they are rumored to be a couple. The extras are certainly interesting, i'd like to see Blind Wave's reactions to some of them.

Especially that last season of Korra
Season 3 of legend of korra takes your breath away 😉
Season 3 of Korra is just as good as season 2 of Avatar it's so underrated
Don't agree on the legend of Korra. It had a very immature view on mature topics, while TLA had a very introspective view on a simple topic, so even children could learn from it.
I can't really say why, but with all the great writing in this show I have always loved that whole "Just Bear" conversation as one of my top quotes.
Probably because it highlights how well built this world is, so distinct from our own that the idea of "Just Bear" in the Avatar world really does seem weird.
@CouchSpud91 but what about the N O R M A L C A T
Tales of ba sing sa will hit you so much with feels.

Don't worry guys, Appa is only going to die in a Samurai duel against Momo in season 3, he is fine for now.
lmao that episode is great

Ehh I still only care about Avatar and FMA ahaha
There are no spoilers in the comment section. Here we are safe, here we are free.
Fun fact: Avatar Kioshi actually created the Dai Li.
"There is no war within the walls. Here we are safe. Here we are free" That, the music, and Joo Dee always made this episode creepy for me

Also, it's very obviously inspired by real-life secret police, such as the Gestapo and the KGB.
Dai Li was a real life Chinese spy master. He used manipulation and control to gain advantages over people, that’s where the name came from
@@ember-brandt yeah or by the Stasi, when germany was Split in 2 halfes

I did not expect it to come out this early.
I was sure today was sunday, imagine my surprise to see this in my sub box :D

Weird The Drill reaction is “not available in my country”
You probably know this by now, but I think that ep is available on there website!
Season 2 episode 13 says it's not available in our country.
keo6283 I know I’m so sad it’s such a good episode!!!
It is only available in Canada for some reason. You can access it if you can find a VPN with a Canadian server
"I know that game... "
Eric, you are awesome XD

I love that bear so much, Bosco is just as good as Momo or Appa for me xD
The whole Ba Sing Se storyline is basically pulled from the last days of Qing Dynasty China, from what they were wearing, the city design, and even the design of the Earth King himself who is made to look like the last emperor of China Puyi, who was in the same way a puppet king and under the control of the Japanese and various other powerful figures.

(At 5:46) Jet uses hooks swords, they can do that.
Remember that scene were the guard catches that sword with his rock glove? If that broadsword was made of Valyrian steel, that guy's hand would be cut in half.

OMG!!! Eric's shirt. I must have it.
They keep the peace by sheltering the people from the outside world. Anyone who doesn't comply gets hypnotized

I love Momo so much! XD
The guy who voices Long Feng is also the guy who voices Lex Luthor in the DCAU JL series
Ahhhh, that's how I knew that voice...
Long Feng: "Greetings, young Avatar. What brings you to our fortified sanctuary?"
Aang: "Unfortunately, the war."
Long Feng: "There is no war in Ba Sing Se, unless you brought it with you."
Wait. What is the one part of the Jet/Zuko fight supposed to be a reference to? I didn't catch what they said...
+CaptCooldude We choreographed a part very similar to that in one of our lightsaber fights
Blind Wave Ohhh, gotcha. Thanks for the reply! Love watching you guys react to this. I'm especially looking forward to the next one.
That part is similar to the end of the Mortal Kombat movie
It's not a reference to anything, as far as I know.
this is an earlier post of the avatar video than it normally is. I usually expect this video at 11PM, UK time
hey

Katie Stubbs Oh, OK. Thanks for the answer.
Next episode is so great. So much emotion and it's even considered a filler episode.

Rewatching these cause I love this series and all this time, I didn’t know Clancy Brown existed in this show😮
After the Serpent's Pass episode I was wondering about Smellerbee and Longshot, and then in the Avatar extras for this episode it says that they are rumored to be a couple. The extras are certainly interesting, i'd like to see Blind Wave's reactions to some of them.
Damnit Lutho-I mean, Long Feng!
Always fun to remember that Momo was originally conceived as the reincarnated spirit of Monk Gyatso
I remember watching this episode with my sister and our friend and we screamed whenever Joo Dee appeared.
People talk about next episode but man, considering how much they love this character, the next one after that is probably even better.
Can't wait for the next episode!
Awesome! May I ask how you avoid claims with Avatar? I use 10 mins or less and our first Avatar Reactions video got claimed. Thanks!!
