I've been driving since 1988 and when I went to work for a company that had automatics on my test drive the guy that went with me kept laughing and saying it's an automatic because I kept reaching for the shifter that wasn't there lol. But I definitely like having the automatic in rush hour stop and go traffic lol but I'm still a gear jammer at heart!
When it comes to stop n go in my smooth bore tanker, I just crawl in 3rd or 4th and watch people cut me off, they’re gonna do it no matter what😂😂.
I've never been real fond of the basic two-tone paint scheme like this one has,
but this truck is freakin gorgeous. I love that orange color...
Being able to go with a bigger mattress is really nice. I'm 6'2" 200 lbs and I have slept
on the 36 inch mattresses for years. They are fine, but I like having a little more room
because I move around a lot when I'm sleeping. Even with the bigger mattress,
there is still plenty of room to move around...
It's hard to tell in a video, but that truck sounds like it's really quiet in the cab when you
were going down the road.
As far as the automatic transmission is concerned, I drove truck for over 40 years.
My Grandfather taught me how to drive in one of his log trucks that had two stick 5x4
transmissions. I can definitely see having an automatic if the truck is mostly driven
in town, but I spent years driving in the worst weather imaginable, and a lot of that
was on mountain passes. I've heard quite a few horror stories about guys running over
mountain passes in a lot of snow, and spinning out. In really bad weather, I want to
have 100% control over what gear I'm in and when I need to shift.
But that Jakebrake sound, you can never replace that.
I'm sure the homeowners along the road will disagree with you on Jakes.
From $6K to $73K that's the minimum range of profit return every week I thinks it's not a bad one for me, now I have enough to pay bills and take care of my family.

Every tractor trailer I've driven from the 70's to the late 90's have all been manuel even my personal pickups. But I would have to say I would prefer automatics all day long now. This is a beautiful pete. The color combo really looks good.

Honestly like how that extended design looks with these big extenders. Flows into the bunk design so much better than the 379's and 389's.
You two and an automatic transmission are a match made in heaven. 😛

Love that it's an automatic!!! Stretch it out to a 280 inch frame, X15 605hp with 2050lbs torque, 24.5 low pro tires with the wheels and 3.73 gears.

I have a 579 w automatic (I think it is a ZF product (Porsche uses ZF). I have had a couple mis shifts, but otherwise like the trans. Get about 6-8mpg so no complaints. Using the Paccar 13L engine. If I recall correctly max torque starts at 950-1300, so low rev.
I like the colors on the 589. Brian and Tommy… keep up the great work. Might come by in a week or two!

I drive a 2023 Kenworth t800 dump truck with an x15 Cummins and a 6 speed Allison automatic and it actually pulls pretty good

Turn that adaptive cruise box around and bolt it to the back of your aftermarket bumper and it'll never bother you again
Tin foil works wonders…absolutely hate all that crap. Drivers rent a truck and figure out what you like and don’t like. You will save money and enjoy the truck more.

The last few trucks that we’ve gotten been automatics, I’ve really enjoy them specially in the city over the road. I would like to have a 13 speed. It’s a Catch-22.
Active stacks make this truck more cool!! I'd have done 8" with 60" tall turn backs facing the rear.

Drove a 567 Pete with adaptive cruise and it would slam on the breaks when it sensed a car on the off ramp! Scare the hell out of ya!lol

The company i drive for has one auto in the fleet of a lot. It has more wrecker calls than any other truck in the fleet for winchouts. We do offroad building deliveries. Now allnthe new trucks are autos thanks to the new excise tax put on manuals. Thanks epa

You can get the 80” without any fairings. It looks just like the 72”
Ok so will not throw you under the bus for the autocrapytrans. It’s all good with the auto trans till you have to replace it. You might as well by another International with that kind of money and get a 18 speed with it, and still be cheaper at the end. And to those digital gages the same way, all good till they don’t work right after warranty is gone and you got to pay thousands to replace instead of replacing just a gauge, like in my 379🤔. I don’t see the benefits here.

It's a woman's truck. I'll stick with my 13-speed manual, which is much better in snow and rain,,,23 bezel gauges, split windshield lights along both air breathers and visor, trailer brake by my steering colum ,,,and oh yeah it's a 389 best trucks peterbilt ever built.

It looks like a short hood rather than an extended hood.
The short hood looks terrible . I don't like the sleeper extenders . The 589 is going to take a while to get used to it . Peterbilt should keep making the 389 for guys that like them . Anyway , nice presentation 👍

Next will probably be an 86” studio type sleeper like the W900L. Only 18 speed manual. The rear end of the sleeper looks too much like a Freightliner. The dashboard looks a lot smaller with the digital gauge.

Its sexy but dont drive it itll be broke down soon sorry i remain a pre 2007 truck forever. Back in my days of driving old schools were rare to be broke down on the side of the road. Now a days tow trucks are buiser than freight trucks towing new trucks.
Not a fan of electric gauges. One more electrical nightmare when the truck gets some miles on it. I'd rather have mechanical gauges. And the door windows are fugly.
I'd prefer Volvo these times than any classic wannabe truck.

I don't remember 100% but basically they changed where they measure to, so its not like the bunks have actually gotten bigger by much its just the 2 points that the measure from have changed.
They measure it from the rear of the seats to the backwall i believe

*crucify intensifies* if its not a REAL manual shift manual transmission.. then it doesnt belong in a truck. Worst thing Peterbilt did was discontinue the 379/389 cab style. Absolutely despise the 589 look. I still wish I could build the truck I made on paper during covid. And don't get me started on the EPA crap. Pre-emission trucks are king. The dash in that cab is also horrible. Give me my mechanical gauges 100%. I dont care about electronic gauges that can fail way more than mechanical gauges. I do like the size of the sleeper (never actually been in a sleeper.. but still), just not some of the layout. I don't care how far the "technology" has come, I am shifting my own flipping transmission. Keep that electro crap out of anything I drive (if I was going to). Not really a fan of the two tone paint scheme. I prefer solid colors.
I am sure the 589 is truly NOT a bad rig. I am just extremely old fashioned, and would rather chop my own hands off to spite the industry than have anything to do with them. Too many things I do not like, and not enough that I do. You should both know how old fashioned I am. I sent the idea of the truck I designed during covid to you both. You had both stated that you had interest in building a rig after what I had made. I did get disappointed that I did not happen (atleast, not that I was aware of). I watched for MONTHS waiting to see SOMETHING on your channel about it. I knew my idea was doomed when Peterbilt officially annouced the doom of the 389.

Anywho, I absolutely hate this “digital” and “automated” shizzle! I rather restore an old junk out of a junkyard than spend an ungodly amount of money for one of these new plastic computers on wheels. It least that way I get a real truck I can maintain and fix myself with the few tools I carry in the toolbox and not have to tow the darn thing to a billion dollar shop and go bankrupt when they bring the bill for changing some stupid burnt wire harness on some DPF sensor for the hundred time, right?
Trucking is a dead horse these days and going into debt at the tune of 300K in order to run these “dolla’ fifty a mile loads”, ya gotta have some serious brain damage!
