Joan D - I have to stand up for my boy Deaky who had an honors university degree in electrical engineering and acoustics at 19! He invented the amp that Brian used to get unique guitar effects, a big part of their success. He also managed their finances after their manager screwed them. Without that the band might have broken up.

Beautiful song. Freddie wrote it for the “love of his life” - Mary.and yes, all 60s and 70s rockers had long hair. Brian May (lead guitar) is over 70 years old and looks the same today! There is a whole genre of music called “hair bands”
My very first concert at age 11 - Queen in Philadelphia 1977 - news of the world tour. Love of my life was song 15 on the set list.

Freddie’s broken mic stand is the great prop in music history IMO. It just added to every live performance in a very visually pleasing way, with the way he would put one hand on the microphone and the other hand on the stand itself. I can’t imagine Freddie performing without it.

There was a time when Bri would do this alone, before they began projecting Freddie with him, when they would put two stools at the front of the stage. On for Bri, and an empty stool for Freddie. And every time, as soon as those stools came out, I cried. And I sang my heart out. Still do, only COVID got in the way.
I miss Freddie (who would have turned 74 yesterday) every day.

You guys need to watch the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. It will answer some of the questions you have such as the microphone stand, why he only has half of it. You truly witnessed greatness boys. Queen are one of the greatest bands of all time with Freddie Mercury being the greatest Front Man of all time. He had so much charisma and talent. He could mesmerize a crowd and have them eating out of his hands. His voice is one of the greatest ever, no auto tune and no lip syncing, at least not in concert. There were a few videos where they made them lip sink and Freddie made it quite obvious to the viewers that he was lip syncing by not singing in the mic an such. LOL thats Freddie for you. His mic that he uses is famously his own. it started back in their early years. He was in the middle of a concert and he tried to adjust the mic stand and it broke so he just pulled it apart and kept on singing and from then on that is the mic he used. It was something that made him stand out so that is why he kept it throughout his career. Yes, back in the 70's and 80's most band members had long hair. Brian May has had that same hair for as long as he has been alive. He still has the same hair only it is gray now. I don't know how much you have listened to Queen but hear are a few songs that are a must for any Queen enthusiast. White Queen from A Night at the Odeon-Hammersmith 1975, You Take my breath away from Hyde Park 1976, Liar,Live at the Rainbow 1974., Lap of the Gods live at the Rainbow 1974, Dont stop me now the official queen video., Under Pressure, live at Wembley, One vision Live at wembley, Now im here,Live at wembley, who wants to live forever live from wimbley, Somebody to Love live at Montreal 1981, and i would think you have heard Bohemian rhapsody but if not, then react to Bohemian Rhapsody the offical video. All in all you did a great reaction, it is nice to see the younger generation take an interest and respect the greats. keep on reacting to Queen i know you will enjoy it.

As for the long hair in the 60s, 70s, gosh yes, to the rock bands & hippies & etc, as a reaction against the establishment. Conservative fellows still wore their hair short.

I just love the spareness of this performance. I mean, sure, there are 80,000 people watching (and singing along), but in the end, it's just two men and an acoustic guitar. Simple, gorgeous, chilling. I love Queen's bombastic, operatic songs (I know all of the words to Bohemian Rhapsody, and I know I'm not alone in that), but this love song gets to the core of it. Just gorgeous.

Velda Filzen - He is not "Sir". He has a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) from the Queen but "sir" only applies to someone who has been knighted. I think all 4 deserve the honor.
PS - In July, the UK issued a collection of postage stamps of Queen as a band and as individuals. The Beatles also had a set issued by the British Post Office.

Maria, while the film was good and the acting amazing, it was not factually accurate. The timeline is off on quite a few places. As J Williams said, try "Days of Our Lives" for the definitive "Queen" bio or, if you want to focus more on Freddie, search out "Lover of Life, Singer of Songs".

Definite proof that Queen and their music had (and still does) an almost magical effect on people and the soul! Brian May still sings this song solo in honor of Freddie and encourages the crowd to join in. He'd say "don't be shy" and also encourage everyone to get out their iphone lights reminiscent of back in the day when people held lighters. Near the end, a video of Freddie from this concert appears on a screen and sings the last part. Almost after every time, Brian would be seen wiping away a tear in honor of his friend and brother in arms and probably so touched that people still go nuts for Queen.

@@NerdyGal28 - Yes, Freddie's hair was long early in their career. Deaky's was the longest, way past his shoulders. Both shortened their hair in the latter part of the 70's. You can tell Queen's era by Deaky's hair....really long, really short, the Afro and really short (and prematurely grey) again.
      Brian's never changed. Roger's shortened a bit.
