      the flagship makes the game completely different from all previous fights, I found myself spending most of the mid-game preparing countermeasures to deal with it after my first few runs. Targeting a main weapons system like you do with most ships doesn't work since they're so spread out, meaning you need to prioritize whatever gives you the most issues. I find the missile system to be a safe bet most of the time since I usually roll up to the flagship with maxed shields and decent evasion to survive the barrage of ions and lasers, though with good cloaking you might have other priorities. Definitely make disabling whatever special room the ship has -- drones, teleporter or cloaking -- a top priority early on even if it means you eat some missiles and hope like hell it doesn't wreck your weapons bay. As long as you have enough sustained fire to keep the shields, missiles and the gimmick room all damaged at once you should be fine. The best defense is a good offense, you're screwed the moment it starts its full barrage

    A beginner playing on easy difficulty is peak FTL. It eventually devolves into an expert playing on hard difficulty where the most eventful concern is "will I lose 1 or 2 hit points this sector?".
    You eventually reach the point where you go through entire sectors without taking damage and in many fights, even on hard difficulty, it's not even possible to take damage even if you walk away from your computer and leave the battle running.

    FTL set the standard before most even knew there WAS a standard to be set and it's saved me hundreds in half-assed attempts since (the demos were enough to warn me off their attempts).
    We got to play the best of what was available WITH MOD SUPPORT and a free update/expansion long before many others had thought to even make something in the "new" genre (basically a re-hash of classic arcade games but with in-run progression, arcades would be making a killing if this sort of thing had been available back then).
    Good interface, epic chip-tunes, engaging gameplay, simple concept/story and a whole heap of neat options and mini-goals to do even for the non-competionists as play gave clear instructions on how to unlock most of the new ships/variants.
    Not many games manage that, Terraria, FTL, half-life, OG counterstrike, TFC/2 (back when it was a half life 1 mod we had mariocart levels, and a heap of other weird and wonderful community led things like chaollenge-maps for mobility training)

    lol have you managed to beat the game on higher difficulties? the flagship absolutely SUCKS on hard mode. the missile bay gets connected to main ship so I can't just tp my mantis crew in and have it be dealt with forever + basically everything is buffed even more.
    also pro tip: if you ever find a ship that doesn't have missiles and it's weapons are too weak to breach your shield layers - just sit there and let your crew train on evasion/shield recharge. this has saved so many runs for me and is basically the only way I'm able to get close the flagship on normal/hard lmao.

    • @EljayIsHere
      @EljayIsHere  2 месяца назад +4

      I've done a bunch of normal runs, but honestly my problem is I never try hahaha
      Like, in a game like Barony, HLD, Loop Hero, etc I get really into the min max, trying to win.
      But FTL is just so fun to do stupid stuff, or play the narrative card rather than the optimised choice hahaha
      So I lose crew to looking at giant Zoltan Monoliths for example hahaha

      Makes the game even more fun imo when you know you cant have it all and adds that extra layer of tactics.
      ps You not getting preigniters cracked me up as they are the holy grail in FTL hahaha

    Ftl is good. but whats better than ftl?
    FTL MULTIVERSE Ths gigantic modpack makes ftl one of the best spaceship game to THE BEST spaceship game of all time.
    I reckon you try MV because, the lore, the enemies and the gun are much more chaotic and fun
    it singlehandedly 10x my playtime because how good it is.
    MV ; has more lore, more enemies, more unique npcs, bunch of cool new crews, and a humongous amount of ships and weapon
    Multiverse in my opinion is the peak ftl experience because how much more fun it is than the base unforgiving normal vanilla FTL.

    The trouble with FTL is that there's some specific strategies which most people seem to consider almost manatory if you actually want to complete the game, sort of invalidating all the customization you can supposedly do.

      There are definitely optimal builds that make the game easy, but veterans can equally beat the game with meme builds. Not everything is strictly speaking _good,_ but meme builds can be a fun change to break up the monotony of meta builds. Since it's not a competition, you don't have to adhere to the meta.

    • @EljayIsHere
      @EljayIsHere  2 месяца назад

      Yep, my thoughts as well
      With the variety the game offers, only playing one play style because “it’s easier” isn’t the games fault, I’ve beaten it with most strategies, and rarely repeat one back to back because what’s the point of that hahaha

    • @dracosummoner
      @dracosummoner 23 дня назад

      I think that's partially true. I did get all of the achievements, but I think certain builds absolutely felt, if not "mandatory," then far and away more fun for completing the game with, especially on the final levels (namely being able to bypass shields and quickly trap and defeat enemy crew members without having to depend on lasers and traditional firepower, let alone finite missile stockpiles).

    Ah yes, Faster Than Light. One of the first games I ever got on steam (in fact, I think it was *the* first game I got on Steam). I remember spending so many hours on it (around 110-ish hours? Including moding the game), just having a good and a bad time. Honestly, while I have not played the game consistently in a long time, FTL always have a special place in my heart.
    If you ever want to try modded FTL, please try out FTL: Captain's Edition, it is a beautiful massive overhaul of the game with so much new content, dangers, enemies, and most important of all: New ways to kill you while you try to make good use of the new content. I highly recommend giving it a shot

  • @IcoKirov

    i like the game, but yeah, it's way too hard :D
    other issues i have, are - the end boss is the same every time, which is kind of boring. the events repeat way too much, i guess there are not a lot of them or something, which is weird since this is what would make every run feel different. and the game is way too hard.
    wait...
    a lot of the times you may end a run just because you never got anything good in the shops or as a drop, and you are basically with the starting loadout.
    a lot of the times you have a great run, you feel pretty powerful and suddenly something happens and you loose. just today i had this - pretty good ship, i was rolling through rebels like butter. killing them so fast it;s not even funny. then suddenly met this ship in a nebula - had my power halved, and the enemy ship hit me with some rocket 3 times in a row, although i had like 40% dodge or close to it (i guess it could have been less since we had less power) so my engines are down, only one weapon is working, which always misses, and basically the ship that i was crushing up until now, killed me.
    but yeah, a good game overall, but did i mention it is way too hard?
    a new contender is coming out - Void War. it's basically FTL crossed with Warhammer 40k. seems like it has a lot more content and ways to play. a lot more systems inside the ships and such, equipment for the crew. things like that. looks great. haven;t tried it myself, waiting for the full release, but so far it seems great. it has the opposite issue tho. it looks way too easy atm. things can change tho.
