    Very nicely done with two planets. I was really surprised that you added the planets first vs. doing the entire sky background and then add the planets. I usually just flick paint for the stars and layer with glaze to give the stars more depth. Love the precision on the moon and earth. Nicely done Chris!

      ShawN shawN thanks for your positive comments. I agree about the flicking paint idea, but it’s a bit messy on my grey back-cloth! Haha 👍

    Not sure how you did the planets so well. It's easy to make planets with spray paint and pots and pans. With acrylic paints, it's way harder.

      Yes, it’s called a mahl stick. I made this with dowel, a ball of cloth wrapped and taped round the end, then covered it with chamois leather. Good luck 👍😊

    What is the purpose of the stick you used throughout?, Is it to maintain boundaries? How did you learn how to freehand items like the continents so well? Were you using a reference image?

    • @ChrisPickstock
      @ChrisPickstock  5 лет назад

      Benicia Livorsi thanks for your comment. The stick you refer to is called a mahl stick. It’s used to rest your hand on when painting details, so as not to smudge your painting. I was using a reference photo to paint the earth and the continents 👍😊

    which paints are you using? When I try to paint over black with my acrylics I have to do like 10 layers until it looks like yours. And also, how did you get that nebula to look so amazing O_o
    Great work I love it

    • @ChrisPickstock
      @ChrisPickstock  5 лет назад

      SinusQuell thanks for you positive comments. The paints I use are Rowney System 3 Acrylics, and Windsor and Newton Galleria Acrylics. You’ll notice it did take two coats of white when starting to paint the earth and moon. If you use very cheap student quality paint then this is very transparent and will take many coats to give a solid colour. Thanks again 👍😊

    • @ChrisPickstock

      That Fellow no, this is not meant to be an accurate depiction of the universe as it is. It’s just an arrangement of different elements of a picture done to make a pleasing composition. 👍😊

    why did u first make a white galaxy line if u had to hide it by black it didnt even reflect in that, ijust didnt get it?

    • @ChrisPickstock
      @ChrisPickstock  7 лет назад +2

      sara khan that is a very good question. The answer is simple, when I painted the large white galaxy, I decided it was too big and dominant so I repainted it smaller. Simple as that, and thanks for your question. 👍

    About the stars can anyone tell me how to do it ?

    • @ChrisPickstock
      @ChrisPickstock  5 лет назад

      Faiza Batool the way I did the stars is simple. I just used a tiny brush and applied thousands of dots all over. A much quicker way is to load a larger brush with wet paint and flick it onto the canvas. This method is a bit more messy 😊

    • @todorkrastev3954
      @todorkrastev3954 6 лет назад

      Time lapse does indeed make painting look so quick and easy- as if it is always 10 min of work and then its done. It does give the inexperienced viewer the wrong impression on how much effort goes into a good painting such as this.

  • @russmartin4048
    @russmartin4048 6 лет назад

    I take it you don't teach the subject. What is the point in showing a time lapse? Sorry to say but this is just an ego trip for you it seems.

    • @ChrisPickstock
      @ChrisPickstock  6 лет назад

      Russ Martin, thanks for your comment. You are quite correct I am not a teacher, but lots of people get encouragement and inspiration from my videos, without the need of step by step instruction.

    • @23Guitardood
      @23Guitardood 6 лет назад

      Russ Martin it encouraged me, much like a lot of other time lapse videos do, and I also learned a little something despite the time lapse. There's a point to most everything, regardless of if you might understand what that point is or not. Take the time to think before you speak (type) next time.
