My mom is, in every sense of the word, a superhero. At 10 my dad got sick and lost his ability to walk. My mom became the provider of the family and worked so much to give us a good life. When I was 12, she was diagnosed with cancer. Even after her double mastectomy, she forced herself out of bed and into the car because she was the only on that could take us to school. Recently, her cancer has come back. Things aren't looking up. My mom always told me I could sing, but I've never been comfortable doing it in front of other people. I told myself that if she does go, if i find the right song, I would sing at her funeral... I found the right song :)

The first time I heard this song (7 years ago) I knew I would play it at my Mom’s funeral. 4-21-2024 was the day it came true. It was perfect. Thanks Ed for the lovely tribute. 🩷 Rest in peace Mom ✝️🩷

My mom died in a car accident when I was 3 years old. I was in the same car when the accident happened.
My aunt told me that they found me below the legs of my mom as if she tried to protect me in the last moment.
My aunt took care of me since then and adopted me. Now when I refer to "mom" I think of my aunt. I am grateful to be blessed with two moms in a life time.

Wow, I guess since you were 3 you weren't very sure of what was happening but just know that parents are the most important thing in life and they are the ones that raised you and tought you your ways of life, My mom had surgery and almost died I was so careful with her at the time and I had no idea what to do I was so scared of loosing my mom that I just stayed in my room and cried. Now a year later I listen to this song by my favorite artist and I cry every time, Thanks for this song Ed it makes me feel much more appreciated to have a mom and father that love me very much

I cared for my mum for three years up until she passed. This was 8 years ago and not a day goes by where I don't wish she was still here. She was my hero.
My favorite line is definitely "You got to see the man I've become" it's just sad but happy at the same time that even though your grandma passed away at least she got to see her grandson succeed in life and the industry that he is in

I just found that out when I was looking for songs about grief and loss because about 2 weeks ago I lost my grandmother, she was my last grandparent alive and I was very close to her as I was the oldest grandchild. About to make my best friend who is a choreographer choreograph a solo for me to this song and hold on by chord overstreet in remembrance to my grandmother

In 2017, I first heard this song while on the way to the hospital to visit my mum, who unfortunately lost her battle with cancer soon after. 6 Years later, and I'm revisiting this song for the motivation, as I have now begun my own battle with cancer. Take it from someone who lost his mum, when he was 9. It's truly world destroying. There's no way around it. And contrary to popular belief, time doesnt heal wounds. But it gets easier to accept. One day, it's going to happen, but keep in mind all the good you had with her. All the times she made you smile, laugh comforted you when you were down, guided you when you were lost.
And to top it off, I wish you the best year in your life to come. Keep your chin up :)

I remember listening to this song when it came out thinking how sad it would be if I lost my mom and how this song would means a lot tomorrow me. Fast forward a few years and she just passed away a few weeks ago so now I listen to this and instead of sadness it reminds me of how much love she brought to the world. I love you mom with hugs and kisses wrapped around it.

I'm 18 now, just lost my mom. She was 50, still so beautiful and strong. She wasn't feeling well in her last days but it didn't seem urgent. My father was sleeping next to her... Ready to take her to the hospital in the morning, yet he wakes up to her dead body. He started screaming and I ran into the room, to find her cold already. I screamed for her to wake up... She didn't, she was long gone. Mom I love you so much may your soul rest in peace next to your beloved father whom you griefed on. Now I grief the both of you, my grandfather and my mom.

It hits the hardest when it's your turn to say goodbye. Death is ubiquitous and inevitable. My dad lost his life in an accident (2021). This was just months before my graduation day. He never got a chance to see me in that cap and gown. I never knew pain could cut this deep. Time heals all wounds, but sometimes it feels like time's just shredding me into pieces. My mom died unexpectedly in Dec 2017, 5 months shy of her 80th birthday. I wish I had known about this song back then so I could have played it at her funeral, as many people have done for their loved ones. I just lost my mom on the 12 of feb, 2019. She had just finished her rounds of chemo last week. She died of a pulmonary embolism. She was at home, like she wanted, when she left us and this world. As i sat alone in my room this morning, this song came to mind. I immediatly started crying. I never thought in a million years this would happen to me. I am only 16. She was always talking about how she wanted to see me get married and have kinds. Now she is watching in heaven with our past dogs, cats, and her mother and father. I love you mommy, and i miss you terribly.

I don't really know why i decided to write about this right now when it's two in the morning and I'm crying my eyes out but here we go. Okay so, a couple weeks ago my mom started feeling weird and she was worried because of that. Of course i thought it was nothing because she always seems so strong and stuff so i didn't gave it any importance at all. On saturday that week i was going out with some friends in the afternoon so i woke up late like at about 12 pm by my mom saying goodbye because she was goig to the emergency room because she wasn't feeling good. I was kind of confused cause i had just woken up but now i don't understand how that could've been the last time i saw my mom and it's shoking. Also by the fact that i still went out till late in the night just to be taken by my uncle to the hospital cause she was still alive in the critical patients unit and had to stay there for a week or so. She still smiled to me when she saw me but i was super selfish and was mad cause i couldn't keep partying so i almost ignored her and wanted to go home. She lied to me. She told me she was staying in that unit only because they didn't have any rooms lefted in the other section, not because her life was in risk. She told me this after a week of not knowing anything, also by her symptoms at first the doctors thought she had a brain tumor but she kept it all to her self just to protect me. Long story short she has guillian barre syndrome and could have died of that if she hadn't been to the hospital that day. Thank god she did. She is now recovering at home, but even tough the process is slow and she almost has to learn how to walk again, she is my mom. And most importantly she is with me. Thanks to this song and to ed, i can finally give myself the chance to realize the magnitude of my mom's illness and let myself cry and be thankful to god for how he kept this angel with me for some time more. So thank you ed, from the bottom of this ordinary 15 year old girl's heart for bringing such feelings to my life. My life will be different from now on and this song will be the reminder of a new start.

When I left, I was listening to Ed Sheeran’s new album, and this song came on. I immediately started to cry in my car after seeing her struggling in that hospital bed. Last night, I came home after visiting her at the hospital once again, and I recorded a version that I hoped to play her - she always loved my singing. I woke up this morning to the heart-breaking news that my beautiful grandmother had passed away. Life is not something to take for granted - hold your loved ones close while you can. I love you so much, Granny. May your heart and soul rest in peace, and your amazing memories live on forever.
