And another subscriber, wouldn't life be so much better with a bit of humour. Ive just bought my Scram and can't wait to get out there, where are you filming this, looks beautiful
Took both the Scram & the Himalayan out on the track at ABR last weekend. Both cracking machines. For me the Himalayan the better of the two off road by far. Agree on the back brake being vague but that could be down to me as rarely use the rear when riding on road so not used to rear only braking as required off road. I'm no off road rider at all but felt really comfy on both the Scram & Himalayan. RE producing some smashing bikes throughout their range. Nice video BTW
Great video, thanks . Have just bought a Meteor and am awaiting its arrival at the dealers. My ambition is to travel out to India to watch the RE engine building by the roadside.
The Scram is plenty off-road for the money, scramblers in all are very capable bikes, without the fancy long suspension. Going too fast on the trails and true rough terrain is not recommended, but it's the same story on most adventure bikes, with the added expense and repair cost. Spoken so true, it's a road bike that can do off-road, and for a cost of a big scooter, without the maintenance of the scooter transmission. Enfield are the smartest motorcycle firm, in my opinion, like the Japanese used to be, before the marketing guys got the upper hand.
You hit the nail on the head there. I ride a Guzzi v85tt and I do take it off road. But at a slow pace and watching not to scratch stuff. I still think it's better to just get a beat up second bike to go off road.
Horses aren’t stupid, once bitten by an electric fence twice shy. I was just itching for you to generate an earth. Joking, well sort of. Another good straightforward mc review. Cheers, mate.
You have some great country side over there: Around where I live here in Oz; the biggest safety feature , is having to think for all the weekend gawkers in the country side, who never see you, I mean riding a 16.2 h.h. Grey Horse and me in a yellow vest, so you can imagine riding the KLR was fraught at times ; having a Bike that is reasonably light and easy to handle is a boon, and getting into really interesting places, is a lot of fun ; having Granite, my horse has an added safety feature , where I could jump over a fence or two , to escape the tourists: Once again, enjoy the videos mate; Cheers:
This is an example of how to make an awesome bike that everyone gets. This is the bike Harley should have made with the new engine. That aside cast you mind back 15 years, 400 cc was the normal and $8K was what most people paid. Now if you were 25 wanted to get a bike for under 9k you could get the bike the gear the helmet use your backpack, pay the registration and insurance and have change for a holiday. 😮 I love my Iron 883 but it’s got limited abilities out side the CBD.
I think Royal Enfield are coming out with some great bikes. This is a pure rugged simple bike that is a all rounder . I live in the Dales and this is the perfect bike for it all. It's not my cup of tea but i like it none the less.....Honest revue as always..We have some beautiful horses in the Dales too.
Really enjoyed this additional review especially highlighting the points about the front cover and the grab rail. This is a real review - you clearly demonstrated the offroad capabilitues of the bike. Brilliant.
Bad breaks are a pretty good safety feature. For example if my breaks were not functioning at all I wouldn't want to even ride. No ride, no injury. Jokes aside I really am having a hard time deciding between the Scram, Himalayan, Hunter or Classic. There are things I like about all of them and things I would dislike not choosing one or the other. No matter which I choose I feel that I will be missing something. Which may mean I will be happy with any of them. But could also mean I will be disappointed by any of them.
We use splendor on these roads in normal seated postions....😅 It needs side guards like the Himalayan cause after falling you don't want to crushed by the bike and dislocate your legs...i guess it's made for young people for the looks and just time to time off roads
Personally I think it is a lovely machine 😍. I'd love it give one a test ride ASAP. What a great beginner motorbike. Imho. Cheers 🍻, G. In beautiful Boulder City Nv. USA 🇺🇲
Poor brakes as a safety feature? I've never quite thought of that - but on reflection they are! I spent two winters commuting across the Pennines on a MZ 250. Loved the bike, hated the brakes (until I did the front brake TLS mod) - as a result I rode that much more carefully especially in snow. Moreover my guess is that the Scrams brakes are infinitely better than a modded MZ 250!
If the brakes are too strong you can easily lock the wheel and go off the road, just go slow… better be safe than sorry… I had a scary experience with a ktm off road, went down a (small) cliff, coz the front wheel stopped dead.
It would be great if we could come and stay with you and do trekking on motorcycles in your neck of the woods. Great scenery, Great motorcycles and even better company. That's exactly what motorcycling is all about.
To oil your chain you can get a peace of wood and hold the bike up by putting it under the swing arm they also make a tool for doing this makes live so much easer. For some one reviewing bikes I am surprised you do not know about these. I use it with my KTM 390 all the time to lube the chain. can't think of the name of it wright now but it is adjustable for differing bikes. It folds in the center and just push it to lock it once in place. Went to the shed and got it, It is a SmapJack V2 Variable and comes with a strap to hold the front break on for safety.
Living where you are, I'd go for the Himalayan, living in the Australian suburbs I'd favour the SCRAM. It just come down to the main environment where you are using the bike. I'm looking forward to test riding a SCRAM when local Enfield dealer gets his quota.
Always liked the Himalayan. The Scram seems to have done a classic RE and found another niche. I have always found 30 to 50hp good for most things, so as with the Himalayan, the Scram would benefit from one of the +20% cams available. I understand this was a test bike, but I find it a little surprising ppl complaining about the gear leaver length, without modifying them. 20 minutes with a hack saw, file and welder, plus a scrap of metal. Paint as you please. Come on guys.

I like the Scram, but a similar kind of bike which you may not have seen, Ol' Man, is the Fantic Caballero 500 Scrambler, a 449cc, four-valve single with 19'' wheels, front and back. More expensive than the 411 but a better bike, I'd argue.
Sat on a himalayan yesterday at a local dealer and even though I'm a short arse it felt pretty dam good under me, only thing that scares me slightly is stories of valve/tappet issues, otherwise I'm ready to spend the cash.
Mr Darcy, thank you for your brilliant reviews. May I suggest if you could place the subtitles on the top or to the side like a blurb as they cover the bike.
Looks tidier than the Himalayan. I judge bikes by what you look like on them, me also being 6ft2". You could easily extend that bar underneath that yellow guard straight out, as drop protection. I think I might of found the bike I'm looking for. My test tomorrow fingers crossed
Just brought a scram myself about 3 weeks age and really enjoying it apart from the harsh running in requirements lol ,i have added some handle bar riser and Royal Enfield can supply front fender risers as well to help with clearance ,also i have fitted a LEXTEK silencer sounds so much better . Loving your videos keep up the good work . would love to have a holiday in your cottage and ride the old scram round some of your lovely roads ,i don't suppose you do motorbike hire ? as i think coming from Essex would be pushing it a bit on the old scram lol .

Dang! Ol'man, you're living in a biker's paradise, can't fault your thinking in moving there!👍 Anyway, to the bike. I'd put it in the same class as the Triumph Street Scrambler. Yes, they WILL do mild off road but with many compromises. I guess you could easily mod them to be a bit more off road friendly with different tyres and gearing changes etc and still keep some ability on tarmac. I've done a couple of tentative green lanes in the dry on my Triumph but I wouldn't dream of taking it anywhere near some of the tracks I've done on the Enduro bike. On the other hand I've been off the Enduro twice on the road. Wet tarmac and knobblies don't mix well!😂 I have to mention the price of the RE which would probably make me more likely to venture off road with it than the £10k Triumph or, heaven forbid, a £££££ Adventure bike! 😀
Looks like a fun bike . Reminds me of the Suzuki DT250 i used to have. Though that was a two stroke enduro. Same sort of riding though ie. on road and offroad. Off road was mainly beaches at the time.
I can't afford one of these but I'm looking at getting a 2018 or 19 himalayan. Just to go round the lanes with or maybe some touring. Would you recommend buying one. Thanks.
Wow....!!!!! it Looks So much Better As a Scrambler than the Almost Adventure-esque and slightly lack lustre Himalayan (Although I did Love the Idea of the Himalayan def more than the Looks &limited off road ability....Although to be fair I'd Still Absolutely Love a Bullet...!!!!) But as a Scrambler it Just Looks The Part and the Perfect Balance of on off road too.....!!!! & Thanks So much For Yet Another Absolutely Fantastic Review Once Again....!!!! :) :) :) :) :)
Thanks for removing the tank wort. Now I see how good it looks with out them. I would bin them. I just might get one when they come in stock. San Diego California.
Perhaps Royal Enfield is thinking the Himalayan is for areas much less developed, the Scram for area that are more developed but to the level of Europe in general: And to be used as primary transportation. Where as we tend to think more in terms of joy riding on pavement, dirt or green lanes in which case we tend to buy more focused machines. Thinking out loud here.
There are duel sport bikes that are great on and off road, I have the DR650 with Dunlop TrailMax Mission tires and it is great on and off road, did have to put a 20 liter gas tank on to get some good range. for what you are calling off toad I had a Royal Enfield 500 bullet and it did just great, For lubing your chain with no center stand use a SnapJack V2 Variable works great and can us by your self no problem, You should look in to these, and give a review on them. It even comes with a strap to hold your front break on.
Hitchcocks sells front fender risers that give extra piece of mind. Simple and cheap fix for that minor issue. Have them on the Himalayan and there is no major change in looks.
Saw one up close last week. Seems like a bargain at the price. A good looking, practical and fun motorcycle. I prefer it to the Himalayan. I've heard people complain about the discoloured exhaust, but if it's only discolouration and not rust that wouldn't be an issue for me - gives it a more rugged look. The side pods are fine too - they could save you a lot of money if you dropped it.
Nice looker, but the Himalayan is the true off road tool, 21'' front. I would have to change that down pipe, the euro 5 bulge is yuk! Looking forward to some more road safety advice.
I have ridden it yesterday and for me its better than hymalayan. Im 194cm tall and my knees are hitting metal bar on hymalayan. Scram doesn't have this issue. Also seat on scram is better. On hymalayan i was fallin on tank and crushing my balls. Scram is gr8 bike to city and some loose, gravel roads in forest or fields
Scramblers are always good off road they have the ground clearance just need dual purpose tires. This one's less weight than the Himalayan? Himalayan issue is it's heavy for it's power output. This one looks better too. In the scrambler segment I think only Husqvarna is actually competing with the amazing Triumph and Ducati scramblers. A scrambler you can take to curvy roads and then also run down a trail that's about as much fun as you'll have a motorbike lol... got to have one in the garage.
I'm really excited for the Scram 411, it should launch here by month's end as it really fits my a little of this and a little of that type of riding but in Malaysia offroad light can suddenly become full on Enduro if one gets caught out. I once went on a rather la di da camping trip, it was all good fun but it rained heavily the night before, the next morning same la di da trail became a testy high difficulty full on Motorcross trail on the exit and jungles really keeps you honest, there's going to be damage, you will fall off, it's just going to be how much and how many times 😂.
Great review as always, thanks. I'm 6'2" as well and about your size (which is why I always check your reviews to see how you fit on a bike), looking for a bike to ride weekends on back roads to local pub etc - which do you find more comfortable: the Classic 350, Scram, or the Himalayan? If I added the Int 650 or the Conti GT are either of those better suited for taller riders? Cheers!
I felt that you were road testing the 411 as you ever tested the Himalayan😁. I never thought about using these kind of boots in such urban bike🤔. Besides ....why everybody drives off road ( green lanes mostly) as if they were in a dirty race track, putting all their attencion on the ground? In fact what off road has more gratifiing in a bike like this is to see the lanscapes and the environment as well as profitingt from a low rev torque. I felt that the suspensions (dumping and travel) were not the proper ones for those kinds of "radical" exercises.
Our local RE dealer has five of these to choose from which is a vote of confidence here in New Zealand. However I’m holding out for a Triumph Street Scrambler, second hand. But they don’t come along very often with our 5 million small population. I’m of the opinion that a good second hand Triumph will outlive and of course outperform a RE?? Also I can’t get my head around so much plastic on the RE!
Depends how old lol coz Enfield also makes bikes that refuse to die. People keep running them for ages. Plus you'll be getting three years warranty with a brand new Enfield
Great stuff, as always I shall say…. Have been living in England for quite a few years, fantastic country. Where exactly are you located, beautiful landscape. Regards from Germany
To my eye, those Scram end-caps are the biggest eye-sore on the bike; I'd rather it go naked without them ... maybe use the pipe to hold old bubble-gum? Unfortunately, the Himalayan looks to me like it was put together from an erector set (we had as kids). The "Classic" looks nice, but I'd rather spend time riding than polishing chrome! Ahh, what's a lad to do?
Funny how different some of the tastes are...I'm actually considering this bike because I LOVE how thise end caps look like...they give it a very unique vibe.
I live in Phoenix Az in the rocky ass desert. I have a scrambler and I beat it to death off road and I wear Van's. I only wear boats on dirt bikes because they have the straight up riding position. It's almost pointless to wear boots if you can't pivot the bike it way to low of a riding position.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I don't think we can get these out in the US yet. We will have to wait. I do hear the 650 may make it to the Himalayan in 24 we will see. Good videos.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan sounds even great when u reach umlingla pass during trip, the highest motorable road in the world. The real struggle is the very low levels of oxygen there. 1000cc engine performs there like 400cc. Tough terrains .
Wow, you can really hear the tik tik tik of the electric fence A nice bike but the 650 would be better on the open road. Great for city riding probably
Today I saw H'ness 350 in market, I know hness is a good bike, and looks are so much modern and nice tank, and most importantly a fun to ride engine, and in reality more fun than classic 350, but here's a catch, in real life not more relaxed fun than chrome red classic 350, because gear shifting is so tall in hness and that leads to disturb pleasure, and you can't drive in slowly in second gear, I love hness, but Chrome red classic 350,Scram 411 are more special bikes because of old school look of chrome red classic 350 and this Scram 411 looks like a little modern farmer bike butwe know it's scrambler, and really fun to drive, but I feel bad when I say these are better than hness, butI like hness too 😄, but that modern look puts behind hness and sitting position is not like a classic 350, footpegs position is so simple in hness, Bye the way love it's engine but gear shifting is a issue 🙁
Poor brakes are a safety festure is the Standard joke on most motorcycle review channels. Just like, it's get you to places no other motorcycle can. Scramblers do seem like a lot of fun but also, to me, seem like a compromise. Me living in the countryside but with paved roads in all directions and "green" lanes blocked from traffic, i dont need it.
A perfect companion for scrambling around the town or may be even the country.......

Looks like a fun bike . Reminds me of the Suzuki DT250 i used to have. Though that was a two stroke enduro. Same sort of riding though ie. on road and offroad. Off road was mainly beaches at the time.
Yes definitely. Great! 👍🏼
These bikes sound great
Yes indeed 👍🏼
you have a pretty scenery there!
Thanks buddy
Someone has been busy with the log splitter!
Yes not even 1/5 of the way through!
The bar that the weird yellow pods attached to could easily become the upper mounts for some engine guards.
@Cerne I have to admit the weird yellow pods are growing on me.
I can't afford one of these but I'm looking at getting a 2018 or 19 himalayan. Just to go round the lanes with or maybe some touring. Would you recommend buying one. Thanks.
Yes definitely. A good strong all rounder
Ok great! Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for removing the tank wort.
Now I see how good it looks with out them. I would bin them.
I just might get one when they come in stock. San Diego California.
Thanks buddy 👍🏼
I like the side pods. They give a unique look.
Yes they're not so bad. 👍🏼
Thank you for this and other reviews which are helping me to decide whether to buy a Himalayan or a Scram!
Yes good points 👍🏼👍🏼
Just watched this again. I bike I rather admire. Utilitarian is the word. Good low-down poke, Ol' Man? Two-valve single, so it should have.
Excellent 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for the précised review. I learned that this bike is not a dual-sports bike, but a daily dual- commuter bike for both urban and rural roads.
Thanks buddy 👍🏼
Hitchcocks sells front fender risers that give extra piece of mind. Simple and cheap fix for that minor issue. Have them on the Himalayan and there is no major change in looks.
Excellent 💯
Saw one up close last week. Seems like a bargain at the price. A good looking, practical and fun motorcycle. I prefer it to the Himalayan. I've heard people complain about the discoloured exhaust, but if it's only discolouration and not rust that wouldn't be an issue for me - gives it a more rugged look. The side pods are fine too - they could save you a lot of money if you dropped it.
Yea good points 👍🏼👍🏼
The worts are just sheet metal and will bend into the tank. Now the tank is messed up. I will remove the worts.
Nice looker, but the Himalayan is the true off road tool, 21'' front. I would have to change that down pipe, the euro 5 bulge is yuk! Looking forward to some more road safety advice.
Yes that’s true 👍🏼👍🏼
I have ridden it yesterday and for me its better than hymalayan. Im 194cm tall and my knees are hitting metal bar on hymalayan. Scram doesn't have this issue. Also seat on scram is better. On hymalayan i was fallin on tank and crushing my balls. Scram is gr8 bike to city and some loose, gravel roads in forest or fields
That’s great! I found the seat slid me forward after a while and crushed the parts lol
Many change out the master brake cylinder for better braking.
Is this with a RE replacement?
Looks cool, sounds like a walking tractor.
That issue would be solved with the 650 twin.
Please RE....
Yes certainly. 👍🏼👍🏼
The plasticrap isn't the problem with the SCAM.The front wheel being too small and not having a grunty version of the 650 twin fitted is.
Hopefully there’ll be a new version soon 👍🏼
I would add blinkers or marker lights to those side cheeks.
Cheers!
Thanks very much.
I personally found the Classic more comfortable. Then Interceptor
Yes you have a good point there and indeed, lazy exploration is what this bike is great for 👍🏼
Very honest, descriptive and detailed review. Thanks.
Yes difficult decisions 👍🏼👍🏼
Depends how old lol coz Enfield also makes bikes that refuse to die. People keep running them for ages. Plus you'll be getting three years warranty with a brand new Enfield
Great stuff, as always I shall say…. Have been living in England for quite a few years, fantastic country. Where exactly are you located, beautiful landscape. Regards from Germany
Thanks buddy. North Wales not far from Llangollen
@@MrDarcy-OlMan …top!👋
Im considering the scram 411 as my commuter for all year riding. What´s your take on the scram for that? Thanks for the video.
Yeah great for that 💯👍🏼
Please do a father and son adventure ride! 😎🤙
Yes hopefully we will soon 👍🏼
Father gets lost and Son has to go find him ?
I like the looks of the scram over the Himalayan.... but we don’t get them in the States until later this year..... 😞
Ok right 👍🏼
To my eye, those Scram end-caps are the biggest eye-sore on the bike; I'd rather it go naked without them ... maybe use the pipe to hold old bubble-gum? Unfortunately, the Himalayan looks to me like it was put together from an erector set (we had as kids). The "Classic" looks nice, but I'd rather spend time riding than polishing chrome! Ahh, what's a lad to do?
Crash bung mount
Funny how different some of the tastes are...I'm actually considering this bike because I LOVE how thise end caps look like...they give it a very unique vibe.
Brakes are overrated,
they only slow you down😂
Haha yes 👍🏼
Great review 👍
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Great review im thinking of buying it for my first bike in 20 years, I'm 6ft 3" so hopefully not too tall, 😁👍
Should be ok, might need to change the seat 👍🏼
@@MrDarcy-OlMan thanks very much 👍
It's a little too modern looking. Just doesn't excite me. Love that you took that bit off though... Wanted to do it bad
Ok... It's growing on me.... Ha
Ok no problem 👍🏼
Hey mister darcy, im torn between scram or the interceptor 650, more on highways and sometimes with backrider, wich one should i buy
If you’re mainly riding highways probably the interceptor
Interceptor +1
I am wondering... RE wants to bring the Himalayan 650 in 2024. So..... will it bring the scram 650?
I live in Phoenix Az in the rocky ass desert. I have a scrambler and I beat it to death off road and I wear Van's. I only wear boats on dirt bikes because they have the straight up riding position. It's almost pointless to wear boots if you can't pivot the bike it way to low of a riding position.
Yes you’re right 👍🏼👍🏼
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I don't think we can get these out in the US yet. We will have to wait. I do hear the 650 may make it to the Himalayan in 24 we will see. Good videos.
Forthcoming Honda CL500 should give the Scram some competition.
Ok interesting 👍🏼
Those are gonna be great
I was interested in the Scram, until my local dealership tried selling me one for $7400 OTD.
yikes
In Mongolia around 5000 USD!
Super review! What are the chances of managing to fit a wider/beefier front tire?
Thanks buddy. Not sure tbh
I wonder which bike is the most versatile in use in your opinion? The Himalayan or the Scram 411?
Very nice video´s.👍
Same really. Perhaps more so the Himalayan
watches the vids bought the bike, cheers ian
Excellent 👍🏼👍🏼
come to india in summer and enjoy ladakh trip. it is a dream trip of all bikers around the world and india. the bikers circuit
Sounds amazing 👍🏼👍🏼
@@MrDarcy-OlMan sounds even great when u reach umlingla pass during trip, the highest motorable road in the world. The real struggle is the very low levels of oxygen there. 1000cc engine performs there like 400cc. Tough terrains .
I want one but not sure if its better than Himalayan.. So will wait abit
Pretty much the same. Slightly sharper steering on road
@@MrDarcy-OlMan thanks
Let's see how the Hunter 350 will be
Yes indeed 👍🏼
Look into CSC bike's, they're like a cross between KTM and Royal Enfield.
👍🏼👍🏼
Wow, you can really hear the tik tik tik of the electric fence
A nice bike but the 650 would be better on the open road.
Great for city riding probably
Yes indeed 👍🏼👍🏼
Awesome bud cheers 👍🏻
Thanks very much 👍🏼
really like that low rumble power
Quite right, poor brakes are a safety feature and if every car’s steering wheel had a sharp spike sticking out of it the roads would be a lot safer!
Yes perhaps a barbed wire filled airbag would slow them down
Poor brakes are a safety festure is the Standard joke on most motorcycle review channels. Just like, it's get you to places no other motorcycle can.
Scramblers do seem like a lot of fun but also, to me, seem like a compromise. Me living in the countryside but with paved roads in all directions and "green" lanes blocked from traffic, i dont need it.
Yes some people think I’m being serious.
I get that 👍🏼
