I really like this book, it’s one of my favorites! The book is based on the puritans in 16th century in the US. The idea of having a ”handmaid” is from the bible, it’s about Rachel’s maid Bilhah who got pregnant with Jacob’s children, two sons i believe. Rachel claimed them as her own since she couldn’t have children.
It's so bizzare though. I say this because it's so brutal compared to what we recognize as normal. However it has happened before. You bring up the influences, but you may already see some comments by reactionaries that opportunistically missuse comparisons to the backward slide of human rights in west asia within the last few decades.
Sure, it's not like the puritans weren't trying to get everyone to read the Bible and their books, no, they secretly wanted all the women unable to read.
You forgot that there are women who are econowives, which is the vast majority of women in the regime who stay home and tend to their children or housework..

Women taking care of kids *Mean while* man doing back breaking work in manual labor forced to do risky tasks in order to not fail family since they are their only source of income.
The men in this comment section terrify me. This is why feminists are still so loud in today's society, you STILL do not treat us with proper and equal respect.
Not to mention, it’s whole purpose was to combat childlessness and human extinction in the US. The US of today is still vastly overpopulated and the foster care system is imploding. This is FICTION. Yes Atwood used different historic events to write the books, but there has never been an actual Gilead with all factors existing at one time. The closest thing to that at this time is Taliban rule and the way Islamic states treat their women.
@@kittykittybangbang9367 I don’t see a problem with that, and here’s why… Of all abortions in the US, 0.2% are because of rape or incest. In both rare cases of potential pregnancy, the morning after pill is available. For the other 99.9 percent of unwanted pregnancy, due to deliberate unprotected sex, the morning after pill is also available. All these years of sex education in school and Planned Parenthood campaigning, we as women have been taught to use at least TWO forms of birth control, each sexual encounter to prevent pregnancy. Since I first became sexually active, I applied what I learned and never got pregnant before I decided to start my family. Personal responsibility. I was not raised in a religious home. I started young. But I knew the basics- “Unprotected sex WILL lead to pregnancy. It’s that simple- biology 101. Abortion is not necessary. Either use 2 forms of protection, or get the morning after pill. It’s cheap (often free) and prevents unwanted pregnancy. Just because states ban abortion, that doesn’t turn us into Gilead. Again, THT is FICTION. It’s also based on the premise that women have become infertile, and the live birth rate has dropped to near zero. We are nowhere near that. Our birth rate is very high, foster care overpopulated. Why would our government want to create a Gilead scenario? I love the handmaids tale, but I think it has created unnecessary paranoia among women in the states. I’m way more concerned about radical Islamic sharia law taking over. They have built communities in every state, and they promise to take over America. “Death to America!” Remember? Take a very close look at sharia law- looks very much like Gilead. And they are infiltrating us one neighborhood at a time. THATs far more concerning to me than unnecessary abortion “rights.”

Margaret Atwood’s Handmaids Tale is a near future novel. depicts the republic of gilead a fundamental christian regime, established a theocratic regime within Gilead. A few men have structured the regime in a way that they have most of the power, or that it is centralised to them, to control women’s reproductive rights. 1985 was when it was established , talks about the future of conservative society that makes them completely subservient to women. Okay but let's not pretend cows are people, Obviously they feel pain and suffering, and what happens to them sucks. But that is NOT the same as human people being tortured. Cows are not as sentient as humans. They do not comprehend their situation the same way humans do. If you saw a human child and a cow in the same burning building, don't pretend for a f--king second you would let the human child die to save the cow. To compare human women to cows is actually really f--king disrespectful.
The most important thing I learned from this comment section: If you have not actually read the book, shut up. Because I see a lot of conservatives here who totally f--king missed the point. If you are a conservative, you are the bad guy in the Handmaid's Tale. It is canon that Gilead was created by religious conservatives. Not socialists. Not liberals. Not people who want gun control. It is SPECIFICALLY stated that religious conservatives were behind it. If you can't even get that right, you are not educated enough on this topic and you need to stop talking.
But...which religious conservatives? The Christians? Where Jesus regularly had female friends and conversations with them? Where he would show friendliness and compassion to a prostitute who was shamed by all others? Where Paul would thank and acknowledge a woman in helping establish the early church? Where in Moses' time two sisters were able to own property when their dad died? The fact that the author describes the Handmaids Tale as a "Christian Fundamentalist regime" gives me the impression she indeed did not know what she was talking about!

Well, I made some OSM Lore about this dystopian future: In 2195 when Holograms are on the rise, Quantum Computers are mainstream and AI is very popular, The Sons of Jacob tries to take over the USA, Which may Microsoft worry about it. So, They decided to make the last version of Windows before the fall of the USA. It is called "Windows 300.00" made 5 Years later after the US Parliment storm. Codenamed "Revolution" as for the spoof of the Iranian Revolution of 1979. This OS Features everythign that is featured in older/legacy Windows Versions so as well as DNA Scanner, Hologram Support and Quantum Printer. Richard Gates Jr. (The Grand-Grandchild of Bill Gates), had announced a final goodbye for Windows in the USA as it will turn into "The Republic of Gilead". By then, The Sons of Jacob made their own operating system used in Gileadian Quantum Computers. For the aftermath, Microsoft still continues to be in buisness in the rest of the world and made a tech alliance with Shaodong Lithium Enterprises (A Taiwanese-American Tech Corporation). As Gilead dumps Windows, May as well cause a domino effect as the same thing happened to bigger corporations in Gilead like Samsung, Apple, LG, Verizon, T-Mobile, Exxon and e.t.c. For that, they must have to smuggle some foreign stuff to Gilead by rebranding them (Prior to Russia's Sanctions in 2022). Microsoft and LT Holograms have worked on an ultimate OS called "Magnesium 1.0" using the hybrid Quantum/LT Kernel. Now, Microsoft and LT Tech resided to S. Korea for asylum.
Really? Because the people I see fighting to keep their guns - and using them against the government - are the exact same people who would WANT this to happen. You realise it's mostly conservatives who don't want gun control? It wasn't the liberals who attacked the Capitol building; and they certainly weren't fighting for womens' rights. Just saying. You also realise the government has tanks and nukes, and guns are not going to do s--t? They let you keep your guns because they know you can't do anything with them lmao. Do you think they'd actually let you keep something you could use to stop them? Do you think they're stupid? Also, I want to point out that in the book, Gilead literally happened BECAUSE the public had access to guns. This wasn't the US government - the public went to war with the government and won. If anything, this book advocates for gun control. Gilead happened because there was no gun control.

We lived in a Christian based world before. In that world many were given rights in the past 100 years and more. It just kept getting better. The 90's were really nice. Everyone seemed to be getting along. Then the shit disturbers were unleashed, stirring everyone up to fight and hate one another again. This was the start of the invasion. Then laws were passed for the woke. People were hurt, fired, trampled, killed, imprisoned, told they were not allowed to speak, not allowed to have weapons, not allowed to have a say in the education of their children, and that there were certain words they had to say or they could face prosecution. WE ARE IN GILEAD. WOKE GILEAD. And the Left are the Commanders.

The handmaids tail is set in the 90s so it’s. Technically alternate history. Just food for thought.
Thats because it was published in the 1980s.
@@extremesoutherngal You do know that several US states are heavily restricting or outright banning ab0rti0n right?
@@kittykittybangbang9367
I don’t see a problem with that, and here’s why…
Of all abortions in the US, 0.2% are because of rape or incest.
@@extremesoutherngal Well MAGA people are very much Taliban mentally so its not too far from the truth if people dont fight against this sort of nonsense mentality.
But isnt this also a warning to not get too hedonistic aswell? The reason why this society happens is due to massive sexual diseases. Yknow? Not practicing safe sex or staying with one partner.

If you have not actually read the book, shut up.

In 2195 when Holograms are on the rise, Quantum Computers are mainstream and AI is very popular, The Sons of Jacob tries to take over the USA, Which may Microsoft worry about it.
This is guide a possibility in some states. With firearms control the reasonable intelligent people will have no way to stop this from happening.
Whut

Then laws were passed for the woke. This story always made 0 sense at all Men wouldn’t willingly let their wife’s and daughters be taken on mass. That would literally never happen even abusive men are so defensive of their family they will usually kill if people try to take them.
@@Josecannoli1209 finally I found someone with common sense
Look at the males wishing for this in the comments.
@@Fandar and they would get gunned down at the door of the other men’s when they show up to enact this
You’re forgetting this is 80s where most of the guys in power would have had mind sets from the 40s and grown up where women can’t vote. Also, the fact that humanity is at risk of being lost due to 80% women not being able to have kids. It’s a possible out come with theses factor
inspired by the 1979 islamic revolution in iran. truly heartbreaking.
Its not onley Iran, 90% islamic coutry have same Probleme
Tell me where in Qur'an that saying that husband need to use Handmaid's than her wife.. And tell me where in Qur'an saying that women can't read, can't write... If you don't know about religion than don't talk like you know... Such as nonsense statement
@@alhamdulillah5564 i was thought mandatory and forced Islamic studies since the age of 7 until diploma. and also had to take forced and mandatory islamic courses in university. i live in the islamic republic of iran. i was thought that a muslim man can do whatever he wants to his property (slaves, handmaids). you muslims love lecturing people while lying about your bullsh** beliefs.
@@alhamdulillah5564t doesn't matter what does corán say, Bible says don't kill and instead Christian regimes have killed thousands, it's about using religion to justify injustice in your own favor
Wait thats just islam
@@AlistairStewart-p3v You’re just projecting your own beliefs about what “liberals” are. I believe all religion is a disease, including Islam, Christianity, all fundamentalists are a scourge on human progress. You have majority Muslim countries that don’t practice the backwards thinking, while you have others like Iran that do. This can and HAS happened with Christianity in the past.
@@AlistairStewart-p3vYou’re hiding behind the repressive shit that most religions enforce on their populace to excuse your bigotry. Despite my aversion to religious nutcases, not every Muslim is a monolith the same way that not every Christian is one. They’re all free to practice whatever sky daddy bullshit they want until they infringe upon another person’s rights.
That's technically all fundamentalist fanatic religion in general bro
Is it worth watching? Or super low in vibration?
Worth watching definitely!
It's worth watching 😎 but make sure you have something more light hearted after❤️
No
I tried to give it a chance. But sorry, this is insane, lol
Sounds like the Middle East.
So it's Islam
wtf islam condones modesty not rape educate youself
If a woman isn't half naked then she is oppressed every one knows that
Definitely islam
Autocrats more likely. Trump MAGA people and Taliban regime is closest coming to mind.
I really dislike that the subtitles are half English half some Asian language that I won’t embarrassing myself trying to guess at, is this some sort of glitch on my end?
So many people in the US think this was inspired by Trump. It's about Iran
I mean Trump MAGA people are basically arguing for this type of incel society. Taliban regime is def closest to mind here. But yeah the whole religious regime of Iran is ridiculous, i hope protestors win that one
@@matrix91234 You think that Trump supporters and the Taliban want the same thing?
You are frighteningly stupid.
@@hardpack187 Well their values seems to really agree on misygony though
@@matrix91234 Not even remotely true. I defy you to list examples of similarities between patriotic Americans who want lower taxes, and the Taliban.
What, because Trump made a pussy joke 17 years ago, he's just like the Taliban, who regularly executes rape victims by stoning them?
@@hardpack187 How about all the complains how women are evil and blame them for rape or how idiots like Crowder idealise how 1950s was better times?. Yeah i am pretty sure they lean up to it. But i think Biden's view on semi fascism is mostly accurate description of MAGA base
He just stole this video from Ted Ed
So much Of the description reminds me of islamic law. Set down by all men
And how the women accept it.
So very 😢 sad
bruh
what 💀
How?
It isn’t at all Islam is nothing like this go an read an Islamic book about female rights please before spouting nonsense and remember that Islam and culture are not the same and are not interchangeable women in Islam are encouraged to get an eduction and work I truly recommend you read a translation of the Quran

This is a perfect reflection of actual life, women being afraid of having everything stripped away from the very people who handed them their freedom, with no evidence that society is moving in that direction, was afraid of a handmaids tail would end up being life…..and here we are in 1984
