Lecce - the great lady of Puglia

Lecce is a dazzling city, all "dressed" in baroque ornaments. The city's buildings are constructed of local limestone, covered with ornate carvings and ornaments made with such profusion that they give the city a sense of gaiety.
Lecce is extravagant, even lavish. It is the cultural capital of Puglia, with so many monuments, churches, palaces and museums that it has been nicknamed the "Florence of the South".
Located in the sunny Salento area of southern Puglia, Lecce is a blend of Greek, Byzantine and European styles.
Keep in mind that the town is quite large compared to the other towns in Puglia and you should allow at least a day to explore it.
