- In 1967 Disney hired a group named Economic Research Associates to research the economic impact that Disney World might have on Central Florida. That initial report reflected what they thought Disney World would do to the state during its first ten years of operation. The report, as it would turn out, would also be way off.

Disney led to a tourism boom in Central FL. Viewed as an opportunity to open new attractions to compete with Disney. And while some attractions have come and go, it was Disney (along with certain others) that have finessed the Central FL tourism model/experience and continue to evolve as the region grows
I still want to build my own futuristic metropolis on property, with me at its center
Yeah, but what LICENSE would it revolve around? You can't expect us to believe it would be a unique attraction, can you?
Be a boring place to visit.
Such a good case study for sustainable growth: do's and dont's
And then there was the impact to Orlando International Airport - MCO. It is FAR larger than what a city the size of Orlando normally has!!!
okay, this is a lynchpin video for your channel. If I was to sequence all of your Disney videos, it would be pretty darned early in the list.
Good job, Rob.
I love this channel
I used this report in my senior thesis for my highschool (I went to a college prep school). really interesting to read.
East coast, uk and Midwest: finally, we can boogie on down too.
Superb, Absolutely superb. As always.
Roy to Walt, "we're standing on top of a gold mine!"
Ice rink! Roller dome! Roy sr : I’m exhausted!
I absolutely love your videos! You’ve taught me the bulk of my Disney knowledge the pst 3 years, and I can confidently say I’m a Disney pro now! Your amazing keep it up
You should release the audio of ALL your videos on your podcast channel. Excellent stuff
When i was a kid we loved Disney movies and the t.v. show wonderful would of Disney and at the beginning it would always show Disneyland and i always wished i could go threre but we didn't have enough money to go all the way to California so when my parents told me the were building Disneyland in our backyard i was pretty happy about it! It really did change Orlando a lot it was like our downtown we where always there it wasn't just the magic kingdom it was also all the other things to do in Disney world the Stores restaurants and lakes camp grounds etc. It really was something when it came here.
You really do a nice job on your videos!
Fascinating video, Rob! Also, killer Soarin' joke!
Two shout-outs in 2 videos in a little over 2 years? This is quite amazing; thanks, Rob!
An interesting take on things. As much as I would have been interested to see the original Epcot as a city, the resort as it has grown is fascinating in and of itself. Speaking of economic impact and not growing quickly enough, I believe that the resort would have continued to see record attendance had the pandemic not hit (at least for the next few years) and I wonder if Disney would have considered a 5th park, even if just for capacity reasons.
At this point Disney (and everyone else) is expanding into China. The cost of construction is a fraction of what it is in the US, and the potential visitors are larger by an order of magnitude.
Great footage I'd like to see more old video's of Disney park's 😉👍
Can you do a video on Disney’s wasps and bees?
I don’t know whether Disney World has an environmental impact statement, but that might be an interesting video, or a video on Disney’s environmental impact in general.
they have recently said that they have achieved their sustainability goals (until 2020) but he could include that report too.
So glad to see you back. I know Disney and COVID (2 separate things) have been disappointing to say the least. But I’m glad you’ve decided to keep your channel going.
love when anyone mentions the EPCOT city
I was really thinking about getting a job in Orlando but then the world had other plans like COVID-19
ya like every company report they under played the how much money they would make and over played how much tax they would pay and how many people they would hire. that’s just how company reports like this work.
Living in Kissimmee, we are still struggling with roads, sewers, housing.
Fascinating!
Heya, how about a "VIP Lounges at Epcot" historical series?
Wow thanks Rob
Wooo! Awesome stuff!
Fantastic video
Great video!
Really interesting, thanks Rob!
Your math videos are always some of my faves
Love your channel #Edutainment
EPCOT CITY!
Of course, neither Disney nor ERA saw Eisner coming. And without him, if Disney even still existed, it would probably be in line with ERA predictions, or maybe even behind.
Now before y'all scream, I'm NOT an Eisner fan. But if you look at the company pre-Eisner and even ten years later, it's obvious he and Wells were almost single-handledly responsible for the company being what it is today.
It sucks today..I'm not saying Disney sucks the company dose. Andi don't mean suck at making money its too long for a comment
Thanks.
Somewhere in there was the Spanish Inquisition ...because *nobody expects The Spanish Inquisition*
So, when you add in the impact on Orlando, Disney World created far more than 50,000 jobs.
THEY ARE WAY OFF!!
I have no idea if it was him, but I think I walked past Rob at Epcot today.
I love how "way off" could've meant their predictions were high across the board...but no. 😂
Have you done a Video on Bonnet Creek?
It’s a very Florida thing to do.. not judging impact of a tourist trap. Ie no East west highways and only local roads to the best beaches in the country. You know traffic back ups on SR 60 almost to Tampa during Spring Break! That’s only Clearwater Beach we have 3 other spring break beach’s in Pinellas which means backroads or traffic for locals.
Another impact is the fact that an nba basketball team is named after the park
sunshine sells
Here at 28,318 views. (before that too... maybe)
Absolute power has finally come to absolutely corrupt Disney. The once great Disney is taking their guests for granted. Disney's closings, suspensions and limitations aren't also making it safer, saner or happier. So I will watch old episodes of Midway To Main Street about the fun Disney use to be, but I won't waste my time on Disney's lines, restrictions and joy-kill.
Maybe someday the elitist snobs ruining everything will grow old, bored or obsolete, so people with true love for Disney can take back the reins, like yourself, Rob. Disney would be better in the hands of someone like yourself with a true love for all things Disney. Sorry, Walt.
The next decade Diz will be overwhelming successful in streaming.
Yes rob! (First!!)
They were way off
*Could you do a video on the live televised Disney World Easter parade from 1985-1999?*
These studies are like the World's Fairs. Trying to "predict" the future. bankers, investors need to "see" that their $$$ will be well spent on a project. That paperwork/ research is in realm of hopeful "fantasy" Once the project gets going, cold real world takes OVER. Often times the mark is OVER or under that mark. It's a fun fickle industry though. yeah! It's still hard to believe that DL was only open 5 days a week. LOL!
I love it when we try to predict the future in anything. We never get it right in very funny ways.
It's the reason why I don't agree with anything that's called a "modern" or to be "classic" or something called "it will have no value with future generations." Especially in entertainment. We're weird creatures and I won't say what will last or won't
Who’d’ve thought vinyl records would make a comeback? Amirite?
