A key step in long-term storage of a backpacking water filter is disinfecting the filter and reservoir to prevent the growth of mold or mildew. Do this by making a diluted bleach solution in your dirty vessel by mixing mix 2.5mL (1/4 tsp) of bleach with 1L of clean water. This solution is then squeezed through the hollow fibers and any other components exposed to unfiltered water. After passing all of the bleach solution through the filter, allow your dirty vessel to dry completely. If the filter has been fully sterilized, it’s perfectly alright to store your QuickDraw with wet hollow fibers. Just make sure it’s in a place that won’t freeze. Reference the instructions that came with your filter (or can be downloaded on our product page) for more complete written instructions.
We designed the QuickDraw to be a high-performance backpacking water filter that is incredibly simple to use. Ease-of-use means easy to maintain as well. With proper maintenance, your QuickDraw Water Filter will reliably deliver its class-leading performance trip after trip, season after season. So, watch the video, follow the steps, and head out on your next trip backed by the Platypus commitment to keeping you safely hydrated while you explore the outdoors.
